Arrange the clips on the timeline, trim unwanted sections, make any audio or caption changes, preview the result, and choose Save or Export. Menu names differ by Galaxy model and One UI version, so a missing multi-clip button usually means you need to open Gallery’s Studio area or install the compatible Samsung Video Editor from Galaxy Store.
What “combine videos” means on a Samsung phone
Samsung’s built-in editor can create a single movie from several recordings without requiring a separate editing service. The normal result is a sequential merge: clip one plays, then clip two, then clip three on one timeline. This is the right choice when you want to join parts of an event, assemble phone-recorded scenes, or create one file for sharing.

A side-by-side or grid video is different. It shows multiple clips at the same time, such as two vertical videos next to each other. Samsung documents collage-style layouts for that purpose; adding clips to a Video Editor timeline does not automatically create a split-screen composition.

Check support before you start
Samsung’s regional support material describes Video Editor on supported Galaxy devices and has listed availability for the Galaxy S20 series and newer models. That is not a guarantee that every model, country or One UI release has identical controls. Samsung has moved functions between Gallery, Studio and separate Galaxy Store app versions over time.

- Update Gallery and system software if an update is offered for your phone.
- Keep the original videos until the new movie has played correctly from beginning to end.
- Make sure the phone has enough free storage for a new rendered file. The finished movie is a separate file; editing does not replace the source clips unless you explicitly delete them.
- For clips stored on a memory card, USB-C drive or cloud location, make them available to Gallery before importing. If a clip cannot be selected, copy it to local phone storage and try again.
Samsung does not publish one universal figure for merge speed, supported clip count, export quality or file-size reduction. Rendering time and output size therefore depend on your device, source footage and project settings rather than a guaranteed Samsung-wide specification.
Method 1: Join clips from Gallery’s video editor
This is the quickest route when your Galaxy exposes multi-clip editing directly from a selected video.
- Open Gallery. Find one of the videos you want in the final movie and open it.
- Enter editing. Tap the pencil icon. Samsung’s documented Gallery workflow starts here.
- Find the multi-clip control. Look for an Add, Import, filmstrip or project button. On some releases, the single-video editor opens first and a menu leads to Create movie or Studio.
- Select the remaining clips. Tap each video you want to include, then confirm with Done, Create or the equivalent label. Selection labels vary by One UI version.
- Set the order. In the timeline, press and hold a clip thumbnail and drag it left or right. Place the opening shot first and the closing shot last.
- Trim each clip. Select a clip and drag its beginning or ending handles inward to remove dead time. Trimming here changes the project’s chosen portions; it does not require deleting the original recording.
- Correct orientation. Use the rotate control when a recording is sideways or has a different orientation from the surrounding clips.
- Make optional edits. Depending on the model and app version, you can apply effects, captions, speed changes, enhancements and other adjustments to individual clips or the movie.
- Preview the complete timeline. Play from the beginning, watch every transition and listen for missing or unexpectedly loud audio.
- Save or export. Choose Save, Save movie or Export. Wait for rendering to finish, then open the new file in Gallery and verify it before sharing.
Samsung’s Galaxy Store description for Video Editor specifically identifies merging multiple segments and rearranging them on a timeline. If your editor shows only trim controls for one video, use the Studio method below instead of assuming the phone cannot merge clips.

Some Galaxy versions place multi-clip projects in Studio rather than inside the first screen opened by the pencil icon. The exact wording can change, but the path normally begins in Gallery.

- Open Gallery and tap the Menu button, usually represented by three lines or three dots.
- Choose Studio, Video editor or Create movie, whichever appears on your phone.
- Start a new project and select the videos. Confirm the selection to open the timeline.
- Reorder, trim and edit the clips as described in the Gallery workflow.
- Preview the project and use Save or Export to create the finished movie.
If Studio is absent, search Galaxy Store for Samsung Video Editor and check whether a version compatible with your model is offered. Availability is device- and region-dependent; do not install an unrelated editor merely because its name is similar.
Arrange and polish the joined movie
Reorder clips without re-recording
The timeline is non-destructive: moving a thumbnail changes playback order, not the source file’s location in Gallery. Build a rough sequence first, then preview it before spending time on effects. If a clip belongs in two places, add it twice only if your version allows duplicate imports; otherwise use a trimmed copy saved as a separate file.
Trim beginnings and endings precisely
Select a clip, move the playhead to locate the unwanted moment, and adjust the clip’s in and out handles. Shortening a clip removes pauses, accidental camera movement or the moment you reached for the phone. Leave a small amount of context when a hard cut would make the sequence confusing.

Use transitions and effects sparingly
Supported versions may offer transitions, visual effects and enhancement controls. A simple cut is usually clearest for consecutive action. Apply a transition only when it communicates a change of time or place; excessive effects can make separately recorded clips feel less consistent.

Add captions and change speed
Samsung documents caption and speed tools in its editor. Captions help when speech is difficult to hear, while a speed change can condense a long setup or emphasize a short action. Check the preview after every speed adjustment because it changes the timing of the following material.
Control music, speech and clip audio
Depending on the Galaxy model and editor release, Samsung’s tools include custom music, voice-over, audio ducking, fades, volume amplification and the ability to mute original audio.
- Keep natural sound: leave the source audio on when continuity matters, such as a conversation or live performance.
- Mute a noisy section: select that clip and disable its original audio if traffic, wind or handling noise distracts from the movie.
- Balance music and speech: lower the music track or use audio ducking where available so spoken words remain intelligible.
- Use fades: fade music in at the opening and out at the ending instead of cutting it abruptly.
- Record narration: add a voice-over when the sequence needs explanation that was not captured while filming.
Listen with the phone speaker and headphones before exporting. Two clips recorded in different environments can have noticeably different loudness even when their video looks consistent.
How to make a side-by-side or grid video
If your goal is to show two or more recordings at once, do not treat the ordinary merge timeline as a split-screen tool. Open Gallery’s collage or layout feature and look for a video-capable arrangement. Select the clips, choose a side-by-side or grid template, adjust each panel if the interface allows it, and save the resulting composition.

Collage layouts can crop footage to fit their cells. A vertical phone video placed beside a horizontal one may therefore show less of the original frame. Preview the complete layout and choose the arrangement that preserves the important subject in each clip.
Newer Galaxy features: Auto Trim
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 newsroom interview describes Auto Trim, which extracts key scenes from multiple videos to create a short-form video. Auto Trim is an automatic highlight-making feature, not a replacement for manually joining every second of every clip. Use the manual timeline when you need complete footage, a precise order or exact in-and-out points.
Save the result safely
- Play the entire project in the editor, including the final seconds. A project can look correct at the beginning while containing a misplaced or silent clip later.
- Tap Save or Export and wait for the progress process to finish. Avoid closing Gallery or powering off the phone during rendering.
- Open the exported movie as a normal Gallery file. Check its picture orientation, sound, captions and the point where every clip joins.
- Share or move the verified copy only after playback succeeds. Keep the originals until you are satisfied with the exported file.
Samsung’s official material does not state a universal lossless-export guarantee. Re-encoding may occur when a project is rendered, so keep the original recordings when their untouched quality matters.
Troubleshooting common problems

Choosing the right Samsung workflow
- Choose Gallery Video Editor when you want a straightforward end-to-end movie and the pencil screen offers Add or a timeline.
- Choose Studio when your phone separates project creation from single-video editing.
- Choose a collage/layout project when several videos must be visible at the same time.
- Choose Auto Trim on a supported newer Galaxy when an automatically selected highlight reel is more useful than a complete, manually ordered merge.
The controls you see are determined by your Galaxy model, One UI release, regional software and installed Samsung editor version. The underlying process remains the same: import clips, place them on a timeline or layout, edit, preview and save a verified copy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I combine videos recorded in different orientations?
Yes. Add them to the same project, select the sideways clip and use the rotate control. Preview the result because mixed portrait and landscape footage may still display with different framing.
Does joining videos delete the original recordings?
The editor creates a new movie when you save or export. Keep the source files until you have checked the new file and no longer need the originals.
Why can’t I find Samsung Video Editor on my Galaxy?
Samsung’s editor is not exposed identically on every model or in every region. Check Gallery’s Studio or Create movie area, update the phone, and then see whether Galaxy Store offers a compatible Samsung Video Editor build.
