Choose the option based on who should receive the money: use Super Chat or Super Stickers for paid creator support, or YouTube Giving to collect donations for an eligible nonprofit. YouTube explicitly says Super Chat and Super Stickers are not crowdfunding or donation tools. The two options also cannot run together on a stream with Live Chat Donations.
Choose the right way to collect money

YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies state: “Fan funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools.” If you want viewers to support you personally, describe Super Chat and Super Stickers as paid fan support—not charitable giving. The official sources here do not establish a vetted external personal-donation provider, its fees, regional coverage, or YouTube integration.

How do I receive Super Chats or Super Stickers?
These features are for eligible creators who want viewers to pay for chat visibility or stickers. YouTube lists participation in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), being at least 18 years old, and being in a region where the relevant feature is available as general minimum criteria. Individual features can have additional conditions, so availability is account-specific.

Open the Earn or monetization area and check whether the relevant fan-funding feature is available to your channel. Do not assume it is enabled just because another channel has it.
- Accept the applicable terms. YouTube says creators must accept the relevant Commerce Product Module or legacy Commerce Product Addendum, as applicable to their account.
- Turn the feature on. Enable it in YouTube Studio or the YouTube Studio mobile app if it is offered to your channel. Check the live-chat controls before the stream so viewers know which support option is available.
You cannot receive Super Chats without meeting YouTube’s eligibility and activation requirements. YouTube’s current policy page is the place to check the requirements that apply to your account and region.

How do I add a donate button to YouTube Live?
For charitable fundraising, YouTube Giving lets eligible creators attach a fundraiser for an eligible nonprofit to a scheduled live stream. The YouTube Giving FAQ lists these creator requirements: the channel is in an available location, participates in YPP, has at least 10,000 subscribers, and is not designated as made for kids. YouTube notes that some channels may see fundraising outside the listed criteria; the practical check is whether the feature appears in your Studio account.
- Confirm channel and nonprofit eligibility. Check the YouTube Giving tools in Studio and verify that the intended nonprofit is eligible. The nonprofit must be a US-registered 501(c)(3) public charity, opted into online fundraising through GuideStar, and compliant with YouTube’s monetization policies. Private foundations are not supported, according to YouTube.
- Request the nonprofit if needed. YouTube says requests for eligible nonprofits can take up to five business days.
- Create or join a fundraiser. Use YouTube Studio’s YouTube Giving workflow to create a fundraiser for the nonprofit or join an existing one.
- Attach it to the scheduled live stream. Follow the fundraiser controls in Studio for the scheduled stream. When Live Chat is enabled, the donate button appears in live chat; without live chat, it appears beside or below the stream on the watch page.
- Check the live-chat mode. A stream with Live Chat Donations cannot use Super Chat or Super Stickers, and a members-only live chat cannot have the donate button. Ads are not affected by adding a fundraiser.
Availability depends on location and can change. YouTube’s FAQ lists supported locations including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Verify the current list and your channel’s access in the YouTube Giving FAQs before planning a fundraiser.

Where does YouTube Giving money go?
YouTube says 100% of a contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube pays transaction fees. Its FAQ says Google partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute funds. Network for Good typically distributes funds monthly; if less than $10 was raised, YouTube says distribution is annual. These details apply to YouTube Giving, not creator fan-funding features.
Common problems and fixes
- Super Chat or Super Stickers are missing in Studio: Check YPP status, age and region eligibility, the relevant commerce terms, and any feature-specific conditions. Confirm you are looking in the channel’s Earn or monetization area.
- The YouTube Giving donate button is unavailable: Check channel location, YPP participation, subscriber threshold, made-for-kids designation, and nonprofit eligibility. YouTube also notes that the feature may appear for some channels outside its listed criteria, so check Studio rather than relying only on a general rule.
- The donate button does not appear on the stream: Confirm the fundraiser is attached to the scheduled stream. With live chat disabled, viewers should look beside or below the video on its watch page rather than in chat.
- You want both donations and Super Chats: YouTube does not allow Super Chat or Super Stickers on streams with Live Chat Donations. Choose the interaction that fits the stream’s purpose; members-only live chat is also incompatible with the donate button.
- A nonprofit request is still pending: YouTube says an eligible nonprofit request can take up to five business days. Allow for that processing time before relying on the organization for an imminent event.
