Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single FFmpeg flag that safely fixes every “non-monotonous DTS” error in a YouTube Live playlist. First find where timestamps go wrong—often at a clip boundary or when the playlist returns to its first file—then check stream compatibility and clip durations. The concat demuxer already shifts timestamps between files; rewriting them blindly can create new audio/video sync problems.
Start by locating the bad boundary
Save the complete FFmpeg log and note whether the first error occurs when one clip changes to the next, or only when the playlist loops back to its first clip. Those are useful clues, not proof of a particular cause. Check the playlist order and file paths, then inspect the clips on either side of the first bad timestamp—especially the last and first files at the loop boundary.

FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads packets from files in sequence and adjusts timestamps so the first file starts at zero and each later file follows the estimated end of the previous one. It relies on file durations to position those later clips. Incorrect duration metadata, truncated media, or unequal audio and video stream lengths can therefore produce artifacts or gaps. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.

For every clip, compare the number and type of streams, codecs, time bases, frame rates, audio formats, and reported duration. Confirm that each file opens and plays correctly, and look for damaged or truncated files. The concat demuxer’s stream-copy workflow expects matching streams, codecs, and time bases; matching filenames or resolutions alone is not enough.

Repair the playlist before changing timestamps
- Check the list. Confirm each
filedirective names the intended file and that the order is correct. - Fix bad media. Replace or repair a truncated or damaged clip. If duration metadata is wrong, use a concat-script
durationdirective only when you independently know the correct duration. - Make incompatible clips consistent. Create normalized intermediate files or transcode the set to compatible stream properties.
-c copycopies encoded packets; it does not make mismatched sources equivalent. - Test locally. Join and play the sequence before introducing YouTube’s live ingest as another variable. Check video, audio, and synchronization through each transition and the final-to-first loop boundary.
A basic ffconcat list has one file directive per clip, for example:
file 'clip-01.mp4'
file 'clip-02.mp4'
Read that list with -f concat -i playlist.ffconcat. The exact output and encoding options depend on the clips and the desired stream; this input line alone does not normalize them or ensure a valid live feed.

Loop and pace the file input correctly
For an input file or prepared sequence, -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely, while -re reads file input at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as possible. These options control repetition and pacing; neither repairs mismatched streams or inaccurate durations. FFmpeg’s command-line documentation describes main options. Place input-scoped options before the input they apply to.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -i playlist.ffconcat ...
This is an input-side outline, not a complete YouTube command: the required output mapping, encoding or stream-copy choices, and RTMP(S) destination depend on your setup. Keep the YouTube stream key private; do not paste it into logs or public posts.

Use timestamp tools only for a diagnosed problem
Options that change timestamp handling are not interchangeable universal fixes. The right behavior depends on the demuxer, codecs, time base, and whether the output copies or re-encodes streams. Avoid adding -copyts, -copytb, -fflags +genpts, or -avoid_negative_ts as guesswork; first establish what is wrong in the inspected stream and retest synchronization after any change.
The FFmpeg setts bitstream filter documentation explains how expressions can assign PTS, DTS, duration, or time base. It documents mechanics, not a guaranteed recipe for every concat error. In particular, setting PTS equal to DTS is marked not recommended when B-frames are involved. If stream copy cannot handle the source differences, re-encoding is a safer diagnostic fallback, but requires more CPU and can reduce quality if configured poorly.

Do not rely on the historical -force_dts_monotonicity option as a current fix. A March 16, 2018 FFmpeg development-list post discussed it as a proposed patch and cautioned that interactions with other flags had not been fully analyzed; it is not evidence that the option is supported in your installed release. Consult the documentation and help for that release.

Check YouTube Live ingest separately
A locally clean concatenation does not prove that YouTube will accept the live feed. Conversely, YouTube ingest settings cannot repair a bad local timestamp sequence. Treat local playback and live stream health as separate checks.
- YouTube’s live encoder settings list RTMP/RTMPS ingest; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and frame rates up to 60 fps.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Choose a bitrate from YouTube’s current table for the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate. A single generic bitrate is not appropriate for every output.
- Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to enter the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password.
- Test the stream and monitor stream health in Live Control Room, using its specific warnings and errors to investigate ingest issues.
Stream copy or re-encode?
| Approach | Best fit | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Stream copy | Inputs have compatible streams, codecs, time bases, and accurate durations. | Uses fewer resources, but does not normalize mismatched sources. |
| Re-encode | Inputs need consistent properties because their stream layouts or encoding parameters differ. | Can normalize the set, but consumes compute and may affect image quality if configured poorly. |
In either case, verify audio/video synchronization at clip transitions and across a full loop. A change that removes a log warning is not a successful repair if playback now skips, drifts, or loses sync.
Troubleshooting symptoms
| Symptom | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Timestamp error begins at a clip change | Streams, codecs, time bases, duration accuracy, and integrity of the two adjacent clips. | Repair bad input, correct a known duration, or normalize incompatible media; test the local join again. |
| Glitch or gap appears at the loop return | The last and first files, their durations, and whether audio and video end at different times. | Test that exact boundary locally. Do not assume infinite looping itself repairs the transition. |
| Playlist plays too quickly | Whether file input is being read at its native rate. | Use input pacing such as -re where appropriate. |
| Playlist stops after one pass | Whether the input is set to repeat. | Use an infinite input loop such as -stream_loop -1 where appropriate. |
| Local output is clean but YouTube reports a problem | Output codec, audio format, CBR, frame rate, keyframe interval, server URL, stream key, and Live Control Room health details. | Resolve ingest configuration separately from the local concat timestamps. |
| Changing a timestamp flag removes one warning but causes sync trouble | Whether the flag fits the demuxer, time base, codecs, and copy-versus-encode path. | Revert speculative changes, inspect the stream, then test only a change tied to a diagnosed issue. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep uploaded videos looping on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. For Indian users, UPI works; cards are accepted worldwide. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. Start the free first day on StreamNeo.
