If audio gradually falls out of sync during a YouTube Live loop, first find where the mismatch begins: check the source and encoder output, then YouTube’s preview and archive, and finally viewer playback. That tells you whether to investigate the files and encoder, the connection, or playback conditions. YouTube does not publish a loop-specific guaranteed fix, so treat these checks as a way to isolate the fault—not as a promise that one setting will solve every drift problem.
Find the first checkpoint where sync is wrong
Compare the same moment in the loop at each stage. If the audio is already late or early in the encoder output or local recording, focus on the source and how the encoder receives audio and video. If those are in sync, but YouTube’s preview or viewers are not, check stream health, the outbound connection, and playback conditions before changing the source.

- Listen to the loop source. Check whether the audio matches visible events at the beginning and later in the file. Note whether the mismatch is constant or grows over time.
- Check the encoder output. Monitor the encoder’s output or make a local recording while streaming. Compare the same points you checked in the source.
- Check YouTube’s live preview and local archive. YouTube recommends checking the stream in the encoder and looking for audio or video problems in the local archive. If the encoder output or archive is already out of sync, investigate the source files and the audio/video paths into the encoder. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
- Compare viewer playback. If the encoder and archive are clean, check whether the problem occurs in YouTube’s preview, for multiple viewers, or only on one viewer’s device or connection. This comparison helps locate the issue; it does not by itself identify a cause.
Write down when the drift starts, whether it gets worse over time, and which checkpoints show it. Note any stream-health messages and their timestamps. This record is a practical way to compare the documented checks and narrow the issue.
Check the encoder, its inputs, and system load
- Update the encoder software. YouTube includes updating encoder software among its troubleshooting checks.
- Confirm the routed sources. Verify that the intended audio and video sources are reaching the encoder, and inspect their routing for mistakes.
- Look for encoder errors and high CPU load. Check the encoder’s own status and whether the machine is under heavy load while the loop runs.
- Make a diagnostic comparison if needed. YouTube suggests testing with a different encoder when the stream still has trouble. A change in results helps narrow the investigation, but does not alone prove which component caused the fault.
These checks follow YouTube’s general live-stream troubleshooting guidance; it does not specify a particular encoder setting as a cure for gradual loop drift.

Read YouTube’s stream-health messages
Check the Live Control Room for stream-health alerts and the timestamps at which they appear. YouTube’s diagnostics can flag configuration issues involving audio, video, bitrate, frame rate, codecs, keyframe frequency, and consistency between primary and backup streams. Use the message actually shown to guide the next check; do not infer a more specific cause than the alert reports.
YouTube’s official API documentation describes these categories in Configuration Issues for LiveStream Resources. YouTube also documents timing and examples for live streaming error messages.

Preflight the stream settings and test the loop
Before the next run, test with audio and video movement similar to the actual loop and watch stream health while the test is running. YouTube Help advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Investigate the connection only if the encoder output is healthy
If the source, encoder output, and local archive are in sync, test outbound internet speed and check for connection issues. YouTube recommends contacting your internet service provider if you find connection problems. Congestion can delay a live stream, but delay is not proof that it caused audio/video drift.
Latency also changes how much read-ahead buffer a viewer has. YouTube explains that lower latency leaves the player with less buffer, which can affect playback conditions; it does not establish latency as the cause of every sync problem. Compare the affected preview and viewers before changing latency settings. See Understand live streaming latency.

Common symptoms and the next check
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The source file is out of sync, or the mismatch grows when played locally. | Inspect the source files and how audio and video enter the encoder. |
| The source looks right, but the encoder output or local archive is out of sync. | Check source routing, encoder errors, and CPU load; update the encoder and consider a different encoder as a diagnostic comparison. |
| The encoder output and archive are in sync, but YouTube reports stream-health issues. | Read the specific alert and timestamp, then check the relevant audio, video, bitrate, frame rate, codec, keyframe, or backup-stream configuration. |
| The encoder and archive look healthy, but YouTube preview or viewer playback does not. | Compare the preview and playback on affected viewers; check outbound connection health and account for playback conditions such as latency without assuming either is the cause. |
| The cause remains unclear or the issue returns during long runs. | Record when the drift begins, whether it worsens, which checkpoints show it, and the corresponding health messages. Reproduce the test with representative loop audio and video. |
