You do not need to capture a separate screenshot for every iPhone. Apple currently requires at least one screenshot for the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) category. If your app’s interface and localization are consistent across sizes, you can submit the highest required resolution and let App Store Connect scale it down; use custom screenshots when layouts or content need to differ.
Which iPhone screenshot size do you need?
Use Apple’s current screenshot specifications to identify the required display category and its accepted pixel dimensions. Apple groups devices by display category, so do not infer an export size from a phone’s marketing name or screen diagonal. The current required iPhone group is the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display).

For that group, Apple lists portrait dimensions including 1179 × 2556 and 1206 × 2622 pixels, along with their landscape counterparts. The accepted sizes depend on category and orientation; check Apple’s live specification before exporting, particularly if you are preparing files well ahead of a submission.

Yes, when the app’s interface looks consistent across device sizes and localizations. Apple permits you to provide screenshots at the highest required resolution and have App Store Connect scale them down for smaller sizes.

Choose custom target-size screenshots instead if a smaller or larger layout changes what is visible, device-specific content needs a different composition, or translated text makes the shared image unsuitable. Custom images give you control over the presentation, but require preparing and maintaining additional sets for the relevant sizes and languages.
Prepare and export the screenshots
- Check Apple’s current screenshot specifications and identify the target display category and orientation for your listing.
- Capture or compose the app screens at the accepted pixel dimensions for that target. For a streamlined workflow, use the highest required resolution when the interface and localization remain consistent across sizes.
- Export between one and ten screenshots per device size as JPEG, JPG, or PNG. Apple does not accept images with alpha channels or transparency.
- Review the images at their intended size and ensure text, controls, and important content remain clear after scaling. Create separate localized or target-size versions where a shared composition would not fit.
Upload images in App Store Connect
- In App Store Connect, select your app, then open the version under the platform you are editing.
- Choose the language and find the App Previews and Screenshots section.
- Select the iPhone tab and upload the screenshot set.
- For custom screenshots for other display sizes or localizations, open View All Sizes in Media Manager and add images to the appropriate target-size well.
- Arrange the screenshots in the order that best presents the app, then check that each image appears correctly in its well.
Apple says screenshot updates can be made while the version is in Prepare for Submission, Invalid Binary, Rejected, Metadata Rejected, or Developer Rejected status. Plan for the iPhone Duo screenshot requirement
Apple’s October 5, 2026 App Store Connect release notes say that apps and games submitted beginning in April 2027 will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo. The screenshot specification already lists these iPhone Duo dimensions:

Recheck Apple’s live specifications and release notes before a submission near that change, since accepted categories and requirements can change.

Why older screenshot guides may differ
Apple’s release notes record that on September 17, 2024, the minimum changed to a single iPhone screenshot at 6.5-inch or 6.9-inch display size. The current specification page describes the required screenshot in device display categories instead. For a submission now, follow the current category and dimensions on Apple’s live page rather than relying only on an older diagonal-based tutorial.
