Freecharge’s published terms allow some transaction information to remain for up to 10 years when retention is required by regulation, so closing the account does not necessarily erase every historical record immediately.
What to do first
Freecharge’s official Help Center directs customers to email [email protected] from their registered email address for account deletion. There is no published, current self-service sequence in the reviewed Freecharge documentation for deleting one saved card or bank account while leaving the account open. The most reliable request is therefore a single, explicit deletion email that covers both the account and each payment detail you want removed.

- Use the email address registered on the Freecharge account. A message from another address may require additional verification.
- Have the registered mobile number ready and include it in the message.
- Make a private list of every saved card, bank account, UPI handle and other payment detail associated with the account. Do not send full card numbers, CVV codes, PINs, passwords or one-time passwords.
- Decide whether you also need to close a Freecharge wallet and whether a balance remains in it.
- Save a copy of your request and any reply so you have a record of what you asked support to remove.
How to request permanent account deletion
- Open the registered mailbox. Start a new message from the exact email address linked to your Freecharge account.
- Address it to [email protected]. This is the support address identified by Freecharge’s Help Center and contact information.
- Use a clear subject. For example: Request to close Freecharge account and remove saved payment details.
- Identify the account. State the registered mobile number. You can also state the registered email address in the body, but do not include sensitive authentication data.
- Ask for permanent closure. Use unambiguous wording such as “Please permanently close and delete my Freecharge account.”
- List the data you want removed. Name saved cards, bank accounts, UPI handles and any other saved payment details. Refer to cards by their last four digits only if support needs help distinguishing them.
- Acknowledge lawful retention. Ask Freecharge to remove data that it is not legally required to retain and to identify any information that must remain, the legal basis and the applicable retention period.
- Request written confirmation. Ask support to confirm when the account is closed and which saved payment details were removed.
- Keep the sent message and response. Do not assume that deleting the app or signing out completed the request.

What account deletion changes
Freecharge’s Terms and Conditions say that, after receiving an account-deletion request, it will delete personal information and other data and immediately stop collecting, storing and using it, except where applicable laws, regulations or industry standards require otherwise. The practical consequences are broader than simply removing the app from a phone.

- You will lose access to operations that require the account.
- You will no longer be able to retrieve personal information or transaction records through that account.
- You will no longer be able to use Freecharge services through the closed account.
- If you later register again with the same mobile number or email address, Freecharge says it will treat you as a new customer rather than restore the deleted account.
Why some transaction records may remain
Deletion is not the same as immediate destruction of every historical record. Freecharge’s terms state that transaction-related details may be retained for compliance with requirements including the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and prepaid payment instrument (PPI) rules for up to 10 years. The exact records and duration depend on the obligation that applies; the terms do not promise that every account-related item will be kept for that entire period.
That is why the email should ask support to distinguish between information deleted as part of closure and information retained for a stated legal or industry requirement. Once the account is closed, you should not expect to sign in later to retrieve retained transaction history.
Closing the account versus removing one payment method
These are different outcomes. Closing the account ends access to the service. Removing a single saved card or bank account would ordinarily leave the account usable, but Freecharge’s currently reviewed documentation does not publish a separate, reliable self-service control for that task.

If you only want to stop using one card or bank account, say explicitly that you are not asking to close the account. If you want every saved payment detail removed and do not need the service anymore, request permanent closure and list the details in the same email.
Saved cards, bank accounts and UPI handles
What to include in the request
Use descriptive identifiers rather than secret data. For a card, the last four digits and card network may be enough for support to identify it. For a bank account, use a partial account identifier or the bank name if support requests clarification. For a UPI handle, provide the handle itself only if necessary; do not provide a UPI PIN. State that the request covers any other payment instruments saved on the account, not just the examples you remember.
What not to assume
- Uninstalling the Freecharge app does not constitute a server-side deletion request.
- Removing a card from a phone’s wallet does not remove a copy saved in Freecharge.
- Deleting an email, clearing app data or changing a phone does not close the account.
- A successful payment-method change does not prove that an old method and its associated records were erased.
Only Freecharge can confirm what was removed from its systems and what remains under a retention obligation. Ask for that confirmation in writing.

Freecharge wallet accounts and remaining balance
Freecharge’s Minimum KYC+ FAQ also directs users who want to close a wallet account to write to [email protected]. Include the wallet in the same closure request rather than assuming that deleting the broader account automatically settles the wallet.
If money remains in the wallet, ask how Freecharge will handle that balance before closure. The published account-closure material does not state a universal refund timeline, so do not rely on an assumed number of days. Ask support to explain any required verification, the destination for a permitted payout and the status of the balance. Keep the support response until the balance issue is resolved.
After you send the email
Check for a complete response
A useful confirmation should address the account status, the saved payment details you named and any information retained under law. If the reply only acknowledges receipt, respond in the same thread asking for the missing points. Keep the wording precise: request confirmation of permanent closure, removal of each listed payment method and an explanation of retained records.

If you do not receive a usable answer
Freecharge’s contact information lists the helpline +91 97735 79100, available Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM. Use it to ask about the status of the email request or to clarify what information support needs. Have the registered mobile number and the date of your email available, but do not disclose passwords, PINs, CVV codes or one-time passwords over the phone.
If a phone agent gives verbal confirmation, ask for the same decision by email. A written response is the clearest record of whether the account was closed, which payment details were removed and which records were retained.

- Send the request only from the registered email account and verify that the recipient address is exactly [email protected].
- Never email a password, card security code, full card number, bank login, UPI PIN or one-time password.
- Treat unexpected links or attachments in replies cautiously. If a message asks for credentials or an OTP, contact support through the published address or helpline instead of replying with the code.
- Review recent bank and card statements separately. Account closure does not cancel a transaction that has already been authorized or settle a dispute automatically.
- Save the request, support replies and any reference number in a secure location.
- After receiving confirmation, remove the app from devices if you no longer need it and clear locally stored data. This is a device-cleanup step, not a substitute for the server-side request.
Common situations and the right request
You want to stop using Freecharge entirely
Request permanent account deletion, list every saved payment detail and ask whether a wallet balance or legally retained transaction data remains.
You want to keep the account but remove one card
Do not send an ambiguous “delete my account” message. Ask [email protected] specifically to remove the identified card while keeping the account open, and ask support to confirm whether that operation is available and completed. The official material reviewed does not document a separate self-service control.
You changed your phone number or email address
Use the registered email address for the deletion request. If you cannot access it, explain that limitation to support and ask what verification process Freecharge requires; do not send identity documents or financial details unless support gives a secure, official method.
You need old transaction records
Obtain or save records before requesting closure if you still have account access. After deletion, Freecharge says you cannot retrieve personal information or transaction records through the old account, even though some transaction data may be retained internally for compliance.
