A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For burnt-on grease, start with a warm water and dish-detergent soak, then wash with a cleaning tool approved for the pan’s finish. Check the care instructions for both the pan and its grid first: oven cleaner, abrasive pads, dishwashers, and even an oven’s self-clean cycle are not safe for every material.
Clean the pan and grid with a soak first
- Check the care instructions. Identify the material and finish of both pieces, such as chrome, enamel, stainless steel, or nonstick. If the pan and grid differ, follow the instructions for each and clean them separately.
- Separate the grid and handle grease safely. Once the parts have cooled slightly, remove the grid and pour grease into a suitable container. Do not pour it down the drain.
- Soak the residue. Sprinkle dishwashing detergent into the pan and fill it with warm water. Lay a damp cloth or paper towel over the grid and leave the parts briefly so the grease can loosen. GE recommends this approach for its broiler pans and racks; its manual notes, “Soaking the pan will remove burned-on foods.” GE Appliances’ cleaning guidance and the GE broiler-pan manual describe the method.
- Wash, rinse, and dry. After soaking, wash the parts and rinse away detergent and loosened grease. Dry them before storing.
Choose a scrubber or stronger cleaner by finish
If residue remains after soaking, do not automatically reach for a harsher cleaner. GE lists plastic scouring pads among approved methods for its broiler pans and racks, but the right tool depends on the specific pan’s finish. Use the pan’s own care instructions as the deciding authority.

- Chrome grid: GE’s manual says not to use oven cleaner on a chrome grid. The same manual permits oven cleaner on the pan and on a grey-enamel grid, illustrating why the parts’ finishes matter.
- Nonstick surface: All-Clad warns that oven cleaners, steel wool, and abrasive scouring pads can damage nonstick surfaces. Its guidance for some product collections suggests covering severe burned grease or food residue with warm water and baking soda, but that treatment is not established as suitable for every broiler pan. Check the instructions for your exact product before using it.
- Dishwasher: GE lists dishwasher cleaning as an approved option for its broiler pans and racks. Do not assume another maker’s pan or grid is dishwasher-safe unless its care instructions say so.
See All-Clad’s care and use guidance for its product-specific cautions. Do not mix cleaning products, and follow the pan’s manual before trying a stronger cleaner on badly carbonized residue.

What to avoid while cleaning
- Do not rinse a hot pan under cold water. Let it cool slightly first. All-Clad warns that a sudden temperature change can cause warping.
- Do not use the oven’s self-clean cycle indiscriminately. GE says self-clean is for porcelain-enamel parts only; metal pans and racks may warp, and residual grease can ignite at self-clean temperatures.
- Do not assume one cleaner works for both pieces. A chrome grid and an enamel pan may have different cleaning limits, even when they came together.
These limits are reflected in GE’s broiler-pan guidance, the GE manual, and All-Clad’s care instructions. Follow your own appliance and cookware documentation if it differs.
