For white leather Nike Air Force 1s, clean by hand: remove loose dirt, treat marks gently with a soft brush or cloth, and let the shoes dry. Nike advises against putting leather Air Force 1s in the washing machine. Check the care label first, because Air Force 1 materials differ.
What you’ll need
- A clean, soft cloth or spare toothbrush.
- For spot cleaning, baking soda, white vinegar and water—or white, non-gel toothpaste.
- Optional alternatives: micellar water, a household cleaning eraser, or a leather cleaner.
- For grass stains, isopropyl alcohol and white vinegar are options Nike describes.

Clean white leather Air Force 1s by hand
- Check the care label and identify the material. The routine below is for leather, not suede.
- Remove excess dirt. Wipe the shoe with a damp cloth before treating a mark.
- Choose one gentle spot-cleaning method. For Nike’s baking-soda mixture, combine one tablespoon baking soda, two tablespoons white vinegar and one cup water. Apply it with a soft brush or cloth and gently work on dirt and debris. Alternatively, apply white non-gel toothpaste to dirty areas, gently scrub with a soft brush or cloth, then wipe the shoe clean.
- Use an alternative for localized dirt. Nike says micellar water can lift dirt and oil from leather shoes. It also suggests dipping a household cleaning eraser in water and using it on stains on the leather upper and sole.
- Let the shoes dry. Avoid soaking the leather or scrubbing aggressively.

These are options in Nike’s care guidance, not a guarantee that every stain will come out. Start with gentle, localized cleaning rather than applying a method across the whole shoe.

How to treat grass stains
- Dab the stain with a cloth or cotton ball dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
- If the mark remains, wet it with white vinegar and leave it for 30 minutes.
- Brush the area to remove the stain. A store-bought leather cleaner is another option.
Nike describes this sequence for tougher grass stains; it does not promise a particular result for every stain or finish.

Clean the laces separately
Nike lists three options for white laces: machine wash them, wash them with dish soap, or clean them in water and detergent. These lace options are separate from its advice to hand wash leather shoe bodies.
What to do if your Air Force 1s are suede
Do not use the leather routine as a default for suede. Nike advises using a clean suede eraser, pencil eraser or household eraser with light pressure. If needed, lightly dampen a cloth with suede cleaner, white vinegar or rubbing alcohol; do not drench the shoe, and let it dry.

Can you put Air Force 1s in the washing machine?
No—not if they are leather. Nike’s official Air Force 1 care article says: “For leather sneakers, like white-on-white leather Air Force 1s, it’s best to avoid the washing machine and hand wash instead.” Check the shoe’s care label before cleaning; Nike’s machine-washing suggestion applies to laces, not the leather shoe body.
