If dirt remains, wipe the cable length with a soft lint-free cloth dampened with soapy water. Do not let moisture reach either connector.

Can I clean the MagSafe connector and Mac port?
Yes, but use a dry cloth—not a damp or soapy one. Apple gives this instruction as part of troubleshooting a MagSafe 3 connector whose indicator repeatedly flashes amber. Disconnect the cable from the Mac and power adapter, and unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet. Wipe the connector and port with a dry cloth, then confirm both are dry and free of debris before reconnecting. Also check the adapter’s USB-C port and the cable’s USB-C connector for debris. Follow Apple’s MagSafe troubleshooting steps if the indicator continues flashing.

Do not apply the cable-length cleaning method to the electrical contacts: Apple specifies a dry cloth for the MagSafe connector and port, and does not direct users to put liquid, soap, or alcohol on them.

Use gentle curves rather than bending the cable sharply or repeatedly at one spot; repeated bending can make it weak or brittle. See Apple’s MacBook Air handling information.

Check the magnetic MagSafe port for debris, including metal objects, before attaching the connector. Do not force the connector into the port.

Use a dry cloth on the MagSafe connector and port, and check that they are dry and clear of debris. Check the USB-C port on the adapter and the cable’s USB-C connector, too.

Reconnect the charger and try charging. If the light keeps flashing, continue with Apple’s troubleshooting guidance, including restarting the Mac; if the problem persists, try another charging method or cable and contact Apple Support as appropriate.
When should I replace the cable?
Replace it if inspection shows damage, or if it remains faulty after troubleshooting. Apple lists an Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable as a replacement option; confirm that a replacement is compatible with your Mac. Apple’s cited MacBook Air handling guidance recommends original cables or cables sold through Apple retail or its online store; that recommendation is specific to the documented model guidance.
