MacBook Pro screens are not OLED touchscreens: Apple identifies current models’ displays as Liquid Retina XDR and lists a keyboard and Force Touch trackpad, not a touchscreen. The safe cleaning method depends on whether your MacBook Pro has a standard display or optional nano-texture glass.
Before you clean: identify the display
Apple’s current MacBook Pro technical specifications describe a Liquid Retina XDR display, not an OLED touchscreen. Older models can differ, so check your specific model’s configuration if you are unsure whether it has nano-texture glass.

How to clean a standard MacBook Pro screen
- Shut down the MacBook Pro and unplug its power adapter.
- Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with water only. The cloth should be damp, not dripping.
- Gently wipe the display. Avoid excessive wiping; do not press hard or scrub.
- Keep moisture away from openings. Never spray liquid directly onto the computer.

How to clean nano-texture glass
- Use the polishing cloth included with the display to remove dust or smudges.
- For an infrequent, stubborn smudge, moisten that cloth with 70-percent isopropyl alcohol and wipe gently.
Apple says a replacement polishing cloth can be ordered if the original is lost. Its nano-texture glass guidance specifies this cloth, so do not assume an arbitrary cloth is an equivalent substitute.

- Do not spray cleaner or any other liquid directly on the MacBook.
- Do not let moisture enter openings.
- Do not use abrasive cloths or wipe excessively.
- Do not treat alcohol as the routine cleaner for a standard display; Apple describes 70-percent isopropyl alcohol as an option for hard-to-remove fingerprints or smudges.
