Choose a Galaxy Z Fold if your day benefits from a larger screen for multitasking, documents, reading or video; choose a Galaxy Z Flip if a compact folded phone and flexible camera use matter more. For a watch, Galaxy Watch9 is Samsung’s everyday health and activity option, while Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is aimed at outdoor and high-performance tracking. The best fit also depends on phone compatibility, watch size, local availability and whether the specific software features you want work with your phone.
Start with the phone’s job in your day
The practical difference between Samsung’s foldable lines is how you use the phone when it is open and closed. A Fold gives you a larger working area; a Flip folds into a smaller package and supports selected tasks while closed. Samsung’s U.S. workflow guide describes those distinctions, but notes that Flex mode support varies by app and that app continuity is not guaranteed for every app. Samsung’s foldable workflow guide

- Choose a Fold if you routinely want two apps visible, read or edit documents, take notes, or watch video on a larger-than-conventional phone screen.
- Choose a Flip if compact carrying is the priority, you want to handle selected tasks while the phone is closed, or you like propping the partly folded phone for hands-free camera use.
Samsung’s current 2026 lineup comprises Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. The models began sales in select markets on August 7, 2026, and Samsung said availability would expand across 106 markets; specific models, configurations, carriers and dates vary by market. Which Galaxy foldable suits each workflow?
| Workflow | Best starting point | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Split-screen work, documents, reading or tablet-like media | Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra or Galaxy Z Fold8 | Whether the larger unfolded display and multitasking justify the phone’s size and local price; the two Fold models differ in display and camera specifications. |
| Small folded footprint, quick cover-screen tasks or hands-free photos and video | Galaxy Z Flip8 | Whether its closed-screen functions and camera workflow meet your needs, and whether compactness matters more than a large open screen. |
| Video viewing on an expanded screen | Galaxy Z Fold8 | Samsung positions this model as a widescreen media option; compare its display and cameras with the Fold8 Ultra before choosing. |

It does not support S Pen. It is the clearest starting point when the biggest listed screen and more advanced camera specifications are priorities. Samsung’s current Fold comparison
Galaxy Z Fold8
The Fold8 has a 7.6-inch main display and 50-megapixel wide and ultra-wide cameras, according to Samsung. It also lists Multi window and DeX, and does not support S Pen. Check whether your phone can pair
Samsung Australia’s compatibility table, updated September 9, 2026, lists Galaxy Watch9 and Watch Ultra2 as requiring Android 13.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB of RAM. It lists iOS as unsupported and says tablets are not supported for these watches. Samsung also cautions that some phone models may remain incompatible even when they meet the baseline requirements. Pairing does not promise every feature
Some newer health features have additional phone, app, account, minimum-use or software conditions. Samsung’s launch material says some Watch9 features require Samsung Health, a Samsung account and a compatible Galaxy phone. If you use a non-Samsung Android phone, check eligibility for the specific feature you care about rather than assuming that basic watch pairing means feature parity. Blood-pressure tracking has extra requirements
If you specifically want Samsung Health Monitor blood-pressure readings, Samsung says the supported Galaxy Watch must be paired over Bluetooth with a Galaxy smartphone and initially calibrated against a separate upper-arm cuff. Recalibration is required every 28 days. Samsung describes the readings as wellness-only, not for diagnosis or treatment. Samsung Health Monitor blood-pressure instructions

- Write down your frequent phone tasks. If they involve side-by-side apps, documents or reading on a large screen, compare the Fold8 Ultra and Fold8. If folded portability and flexible camera positioning dominate, start with the Flip8.
- Compare the actual model differences. The Fold8 Ultra and Fold8 have different main-display sizes and camera specifications; neither supports S Pen, according to Samsung.
- Try the watch size on your wrist if possible. Watch9 comes in 40 mm and 44 mm; Watch Ultra2 is 47 mm. Comfort and intended activity matter more than a feature list alone.
- Confirm phone compatibility and feature access. Check your exact phone model, Android version, RAM and the local Samsung support page; separately verify any health feature’s requirements.
- Check local stock and current pricing. Samsung’s launch coverage does not guarantee availability of every model, size, carrier variant or connectivity option in your market. Use local listings for current prices and configurations.
