On OnePlus phones that offer the OxygenOS 14 controls, open Settings > Display & brightness > Screen refresh rate. Choose High for smoother motion, Standard to prioritize battery life, or Auto select if you want the phone to manage the setting. The right choice depends on your model and what matters more to you: smoothness or runtime.
What refresh rate changes
Refresh rate is how often the display updates its image. A higher rate can make scrolling and other motion look smoother, and OnePlus says it can improve gaming control. It does not, by itself, guarantee a particular game’s frame rate: the app, phone and software also affect what you see.

Refresh rate is separate from screen resolution. Changing the rate does not change the display’s resolution or make the image sharper. OnePlus’s older OnePlus 8 Pro manual describes its 120 Hz rate as switching dynamically according to scenarios, and lists resolution options separately.

How to change the setting
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display & brightness.
- Tap Screen refresh rate.
- Choose an available mode: Auto select, Standard or High. The menu may differ on your phone.
This path and these options are documented in OnePlus’s OxygenOS 14.0 User Manual. If you do not see the same labels, use the options shown in your phone’s own settings; OnePlus notes that feature availability can vary by model and software version.

Which mode should you choose?

OnePlus’s guidance is qualitative: it gives no model-specific battery-life measurement or estimate for the difference between modes. If battery life is your priority, Standard is the clearer choice; if you notice and value smoother motion, try High and decide whether the experience is worth the added battery use.
Set a rate for an individual app
On supported OxygenOS 14 devices, first select High. If app-specific controls are available, OnePlus says you can then set an app to 60, 90 or 120 Hz. Those values and controls are not available on every model, and selecting a display rate alone does not promise that a game or app will render at the same frame rate.

Why menus and refresh-rate ranges differ
OnePlus’s older OxygenOS 13 system introduction describes Standard 60 Hz and High 120 Hz, rather than the three OxygenOS 14 choices. The names and controls in a manual for one software generation should not be assumed to match another phone’s current menu.
Also, a phone’s advertised maximum is not necessarily the rate it uses continuously. OnePlus describes the OnePlus 10 Pro’s LTPO display as dynamically scaling from 1 to 120 Hz in its specifications. For the OnePlus Open, it lists a dynamic 1–120 Hz range on the main display and 10–120 Hz on the cover display in its specifications. These examples illustrate why the available range and behavior depend on the panel and device.
