The right Jio 5G plan is the one that covers your typical daily use without making you pay for unused data. Start by checking your phone’s recent mobile-data total, identify whether you are a light, regular or heavy user, then compare each plan’s daily allowance, validity, total price, extra data and unlimited-5G eligibility. Unlimited 5G is available only when you have a compatible 5G handset, an eligible active plan and Jio True 5G coverage where you use the service.
Start with your real data pattern
Plan descriptions are easier to understand when you translate them into the activities you actually perform. Review the last 30 days in your phone’s mobile-data settings and note the total used, the apps responsible and the days when usage spiked. Separate mobile data from Wi-Fi; a low total can be misleading if most streaming happens at home.

Also record travel, hotspot and work-from-anywhere days. A plan that is sufficient on an ordinary week can run short during a trip, a large download or a period of frequent video meetings. If your use changes sharply from day to day, compare a normal daily plan with a lower allowance plus occasional bulk-data add-ons rather than choosing the largest daily tier automatically.

Light use: browsing, messages and occasional video
Light users mainly send messages, use maps and email, browse websites, check social feeds and watch short videos occasionally. Jio describes its 1.5 GB-per-day tier as suitable for surfing and social media. This tier is a sensible starting point when your measured use is consistently modest and you rarely tether another device.

A small data pack can be better when you need data only on selected days. The catalog lists a ₹149 pack with 10 GB valid for 30 days. It does not provide a daily allowance, so it suits irregular use rather than someone who consumes roughly the same amount every day.
Regular use: social video, music, calls and HD streaming
Regular users open social-video apps daily, stream music, make video calls and watch some HD content. Jio associates the 2 GB-per-day tier with movies, songs, social sharing and video calls. For many smartphone users, this is the practical baseline because it provides predictable daily capacity without the highest recurring price.
Check which apps are driving your total. Video calls and autoplay feeds can make a “normal” day much larger than a messaging-and-browsing day. If your usage often approaches the daily limit, a plan with additional bulk data can prevent a shortfall during a long call or travel day.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHeavy use: 4K video, gaming, downloads and hotspot
Heavy users stream HD or 4K video frequently, download large files, play multiplayer games for long sessions or share the connection with a laptop, tablet or another phone. Jio describes 2.5 GB-per-day plans as suited to 4K cricket and lag-free gaming. Compare that tier with plans that add a separate 5 GB or 20 GB allowance for unusually demanding weeks.
Gaming data use varies by title and device. The initial game download and updates can consume more data than a typical play session, while latency depends on network conditions rather than the size of your allowance. If you use a hotspot, count the connected device’s operating-system updates, cloud synchronization and video playback, not just the activity you intended to perform.
Jio prepaid plans that fit these patterns
The following examples come from Jio’s 2026 prepaid catalog and 5G plan listings. Prices and availability can change, so verify the live recharge screen before paying. “Daily data” is the advertised allowance; extra bulk data is listed separately.

| Plan | Validity | Daily data | Extra data | Unlimited 5G | Approximate price per validity day | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹149 data pack | 30 days | None | 10 GB total | Not stated | ₹4.97 per day of validity | Occasional or irregular data |
| ₹198 | 14 days | 2 GB/day | None stated | Not stated in the catalog example | ₹14.14 | Short-term 2 GB/day requirement |
| ₹349 | 28 days | 2 GB/day | None stated | Yes, on an eligible device and in coverage | ₹12.46 | Regular use with monthly recharges |
| ₹399 | 28 days | 2.5 GB/day | None stated | Not stated separately in the catalog example | ₹14.25 | Heavy users needing more daily data |
| ₹459 | 28 days | 2 GB/day | 5 GB total | Not stated separately in the catalog example | ₹16.39 | Regular use with a small reserve |
| ₹749 | 72 days | 2 GB/day | 20 GB total | Yes, on an eligible device and in coverage | ₹10.40 | Multi-month use and travel reserve |
| ₹899 | 90 days | 2 GB/day | 20 GB total | Not stated separately in the main catalog example | ₹9.99 | Lower daily cost without moving to annual billing |
| ₹1,029 | 84 days | 2 GB/day | None stated | Not stated separately in the main catalog example | ₹12.25 | Three-month-style validity with no bulk-data reserve |
| ₹3,599 | 365 days | 2.5 GB/day | None stated | Yes, on an eligible device and in coverage | ₹9.86 | Heavy users who want a full-year recharge |
The per-day figures divide the recharge price by its advertised validity. They are comparisons, not a promise that Jio bills by the day or that a recharge can be prorated. A plan with a lower daily cost can still be poor value if you do not use its allowance or if its validity does not match your payment schedule.
How unlimited 5G eligibility works
Jio’s official FAQ states that prepaid unlimited 5G requires a plan priced at ₹349 or above that offers 2 GB per day, a 5G-compatible device and a Jio True 5G coverage area. Jio’s 5G page gives related wording: “Yes, you are eligible for the Jio True 5G plan if you use a 5G device, your city has Jio True 5G coverage, and you have an active prepaid plan with more than 2 GB/day or a Jio postpaid plan of ₹349 or above.”
Those two statements use slightly different prepaid wording. Treat the ₹349-or-above, 2 GB/day requirement as the specific FAQ threshold, then confirm the eligibility message shown for your number in Jio’s current plan page. Prices, promotional bundles and qualification rules can change.
- Handset: The phone must support Jio’s 5G network bands and have 5G enabled in its network settings. “5G-ready” marketing alone is not enough; check the exact model and software support.
- Coverage: Your city and the places where you use data must have live Jio True 5G service. Coverage can differ between neighborhoods and indoors.
- Plan: The active recharge must meet Jio’s current prepaid threshold. A cheaper plan may provide ordinary data but not the unlimited-5G benefit.
- SIM: Jio’s 5G page says an existing Jio 4G SIM can work on a supported 5G network; it does not present a separate 5G SIM purchase as a requirement.
Unlimited 5G should be treated as a coverage-dependent benefit, not as a replacement for checking your daily allowance. When the handset is on 4G or outside True 5G coverage, your plan’s ordinary data terms are the relevant safety net. Before a long trip, download maps and check where you are likely to fall back to 4G.
Compare the price of monthly, quarterly and annual recharges
Validity changes the economics. A 28-day recharge does not cover a calendar month, so renewing it 13 times is roughly a year of service. The simple calculations below make the trade-off visible.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Option | Calculation | Approximate cost for a 365-day period | Data profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹349 every 28 days | ₹349 × 13 recharges | ₹4,537 for about 364 days | 2 GB/day; unlimited 5G when eligible |
| ₹749 every 72 days | ₹749 × 6 recharges | ₹4,494 for 432 days | 2 GB/day plus 20 GB; unlimited 5G when eligible |
| ₹899 every 90 days | ₹899 × 4 recharges | ₹3,596 for 360 days | 2 GB/day plus 20 GB; verify 5G treatment in the live catalog |
| ₹3,599 annual plan | One recharge | ₹3,599 for 365 days | 2.5 GB/day; unlimited 5G when eligible |
The annual plan costs less than repeatedly buying the ₹349 28-day plan over a year and supplies a higher advertised daily allowance. The ₹899 option has a similar total cost when bought four times, but its four recharges cover 360 days, not 365, and it advertises 2 GB/day plus 20 GB rather than 2.5 GB/day. The apparent saving therefore has to be weighed against the extra daily data and the convenience of one annual payment.

Long-validity plans also lock in money and usage assumptions. If you expect to change phones, move to another operator, receive employer-paid service or spend long periods on Wi-Fi, a 28- or 84-day plan can preserve flexibility even when its nominal daily rate is higher.
When extra bulk data is more useful than a higher daily allowance
Bulk data covers peaks that do not happen every day. The ₹459 plan adds 5 GB to a 2 GB/day allowance, while the ₹749 and ₹899 examples add 20 GB to 2 GB/day. Choose this structure when ordinary days fit 2 GB but travel, tethering or a one-time download creates occasional surges.
A higher daily tier is more predictable for someone who is near the limit most days. The ₹399 plan provides 2.5 GB/day for 28 days; the ₹3,599 annual plan provides 2.5 GB/day for 365 days. Compare the total data you are likely to consume, not just the headline daily figure: unused daily capacity is not the same as a bank of data you can deliberately reserve for a later week.

The listed plans do not establish a data-rollover feature. Unless the live plan terms explicitly say otherwise, assume unused daily data does not carry into a later day and do not build your budget around rollover.
Decide whether the Jio OTT Pass improves your value
Jio’s OTT Pass adds data and access to 15 premium OTT services. It is useful when you already value those services and would otherwise pay for them separately; it is not automatically a better data deal than a plain recharge.
| OTT Pass | Validity | Included data | Approximate pass cost per validity day |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹200 | 28 days | 30 GB | ₹7.14 |
| ₹550 | 84 days | 90 GB | ₹6.55 |
| ₹2,000 | 365 days | 365 GB | ₹5.48 |
The pass’s unlimited-5G benefit lasts for the shorter of the pass validity and the underlying base-plan validity. For example, buying a long-validity pass does not extend a base recharge that expires earlier. Keep both expiry dates in your calendar and verify that your base plan is eligible before treating the pass as an unlimited-5G upgrade.

For a viewer who does not use the included services, the pass can be an expensive way to obtain extra data. You mostly browse and message
Measure a full month first. If your usage stays comfortably below the light-user range and you have Wi-Fi most of the time, start with a smaller daily tier or the ₹149 10 GB pack for irregular needs. Do not pay for 2.5 GB/day solely because the phone supports 5G.
You stream and make video calls every day
Use the 2 GB/day tier as the comparison baseline. The ₹349 28-day plan is the clearest monthly example and includes unlimited 5G when the handset, coverage and eligibility conditions are met. If your ordinary use is close to the limit, compare the ₹459 option with 5 GB extra or a longer-validity plan with 20 GB extra.
You play games, watch 4K sports or tether a laptop
Compare 2.5 GB/day plans first. The ₹399 28-day plan provides that allowance for a short cycle; the ₹3,599 annual plan provides it for a full year and includes unlimited 5G when eligible. If heavy use is occasional rather than daily, a 2 GB/day plan with 20 GB of extra data may cost less while covering travel or a large download.
You want the lowest recurring cost
Look at the entire validity period, not the recharge amount alone. The ₹899 plan’s effective daily price is lower than the ₹349 plan’s, and the annual ₹3,599 plan has the lowest listed daily price among the major examples while offering 2.5 GB/day. Confirm that you can commit the money upfront and that the plan’s 5G eligibility is shown for your number.

Keep your existing base plan and compare an add-on or OTT Pass when the extra use is temporary. The ₹149 pack supplies 10 GB over 30 days; the OTT Passes supply 30 GB, 90 GB or 365 GB on their respective 28-, 84- or 365-day terms. Check whether the add-on changes your 5G eligibility or merely adds data.
Check compatibility and coverage before recharging
- Identify the exact phone model. Open the manufacturer’s specifications and confirm that the Indian version supports 5G bands used by Jio. Install pending system updates.
- Enable 5G. In the phone’s SIM or mobile-network settings, select a mode that permits 5G. Menu names differ by manufacturer; do not assume the setting is enabled simply because the handset is marketed as 5G.
- Check Jio’s live coverage information. Confirm service in your city and at the locations where you spend time. Indoor signal can be weaker than an outdoor coverage map suggests.
- Check the plan screen for your number. Look for the unlimited-5G eligibility message and read the current validity, daily allowance and add-on terms immediately before payment.
- Test after activation. With mobile data enabled, verify that the status indicator shows 5G in a known coverage area. Run ordinary tasks first; a 5G icon alone does not guarantee uninterrupted service everywhere.
If the phone remains on 4G, troubleshoot in order: restart it, install carrier and operating-system updates, reselect the 5G network mode, remove battery-saving restrictions that disable 5G and test outdoors. If another Jio handset works in the same spot while yours does not, the model, software or device configuration is more likely to be the cause than the recharge price.
Common mistakes that lead to the wrong plan
- Buying on the headline price: ₹198 may look cheaper than ₹349, but it lasts only 14 days. Divide by validity and compare the data profile.
- Confusing validity with daily data: A 10 GB pack valid for 30 days is not equivalent to 10 GB every day.
- Assuming every 5G phone receives unlimited 5G: Eligibility still requires Jio coverage and a qualifying active plan.
- Ignoring 4G fallback: Travel, indoor locations and congestion can leave the phone on 4G, where ordinary plan allowances matter.
- Paying for unused OTT services: Count only services your household will actually use and compare the pass’s shorter-validity rule with your base plan.
- Forgetting the 28-day cycle: Thirteen ₹349 recharges are needed to cover approximately a year, not twelve.
- Assuming rollover: The listed examples do not state that unused daily data carries forward. Check the current terms instead of saving data for a later day.
Consider the ₹601 gift option
Jio lists a ₹601 gift option that upgrades a recipient’s non-5G plan to unlimited 5G for one year. This can help when someone already has a compatible phone and coverage but lacks an eligible plan. Confirm the recipient’s current recharge, handset and location before purchasing; the gift does not remove the device or coverage conditions.
Quick Recap
A practical final checklist
- Record your last month’s mobile-data total and identify the three biggest apps.
- Classify your use as light, regular or heavy based on actual behavior, including hotspot days.
- Choose between a daily allowance and a bulk-data reserve according to whether peaks are occasional or constant.
- Calculate price per validity day and remember that 28-day plans require 13 renewals to approximate a year.
- Confirm the exact handset model, 5G software setting and Jio coverage at your usual locations.
- Read the current plan screen for unlimited-5G eligibility, extra-data terms and expiry dates.
- Reassess after one cycle; if most daily data remains unused, step down, and if you repeatedly exhaust it, move up or add bulk data.
