Choose Casual if this is your first Resident Evil or you want aim assistance and less combat friction. Choose Standard (Modern) for a conventional starting point if you have some survival-horror experience. Choose Standard Classic if you want extra save-planning tension: when playing as Grace, saving at typewriters requires ink ribbons.

Resident Evil Requiem difficulty options at a glance

Setting What is established Best fit
Casual Includes aim assistance. Capcom describes it as suitable for people new to Resident Evil and survival horror. First series playthrough, lower appetite for combat pressure, or a focus on story and puzzles.
Standard (Modern) Confirmed as a difficulty setting. Xbox Wire writer Mike Nelson described his playthrough as balanced, with ammunition and healing items reasonably plentiful; that is one player’s report, not a guarantee. Returning players who want a standard starting point without choosing Classic for its save rule.
Standard Classic Grace needs ink ribbons to save at typewriters. Capcom presents it as a more intense option for players familiar with the genre. Survival-horror fans who enjoy deciding when to save and managing resources.

The names do not establish a precise numerical difficulty scale, and the available official descriptions do not support a full, parameter-by-parameter comparison. The clearest differences to weigh are aim assistance, Classic’s save-resource pressure, and how much tension you want.

Choose by the kind of challenge you want

Pick Casual if you are new or want less combat friction

Casual is the clearest recommendation for a first Resident Evil game, or if you would rather concentrate on exploration, puzzles, and the story than struggle with aiming. Capcom’s Resident Evil Community Team says newcomers can choose Casual, where aim assist helps them take down enemies more easily. Capcom’s January 2026 difficulty announcement identifies that intended audience and feature.

Pick Standard (Modern) for a conventional first run as a returning player

If you know the genre and want a middle-ground starting point without the distinctive Classic save rule, Standard (Modern) is a reasonable editorial recommendation. Xbox Wire writer Mike Nelson called it balanced in his own playthrough and said ammunition and healing items were reasonably plentiful. Supplies and difficulty can feel different across players, so treat his account as an impression rather than a promise. Nelson’s Xbox Wire account also discusses his perspective preferences.

  • Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
  • For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
  • An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
  • Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.

Pick Standard Classic if save planning is part of the fun

In Grace’s sections, Standard Classic requires ink ribbons to save at typewriters. That makes saving a resource decision: you must weigh the value of recording progress against keeping ribbons available. Capcom describes this option as intended for players familiar with survival horror who want a more intense experience. Choose it if managing that added pressure sounds enjoyable, not merely because “Classic” seems like the more authentic label.

Choose your camera view separately

Resident Evil Requiem lets you switch between first- and third-person perspectives in real time. Capcom describes perspective switching as a way to suit individual play styles, not as a difficulty setting. Try each view and use the one that helps you read the scene comfortably; Xbox Wire’s Mike Nelson noted that third person can provide more situational awareness, including when avoiding detection. Capcom’s March 2026 release announcement confirms the real-time perspective option.
