aaPanel itself has a modest published minimum: 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 1 GB of storage. Those figures cover the control panel, not a guarantee that a website, database or Docker app will run well. Choose a Linux server that meets aaPanel’s installation requirements, then size its resources for everything you plan to host.
What aaPanel’s minimum hardware requirements mean
aaPanel is a control panel installed on a Linux server. Its current Quick Start guide lists these minimums for the panel:

These are installation minimums, not performance targets for a production server. The documentation does not map particular CPU, memory or storage configurations to traffic levels or application workloads. A site’s files, database, operating system and other services also need resources.

Which Linux distribution should you use?
The Quick Start guide says aaPanel is “currently developed based on Ubuntu 22.04” and recommends Ubuntu 22. It also lists these supported systems:
- Ubuntu 24 and 26
- Debian 11, 12 and 13
- CentOS 9 and 10
- AlmaLinux 8, 9 and 10
- Rocky Linux 8, 9 and 10
Confirm the live installation documentation supports the exact distribution version you intend to install. The separate download page includes a broader operating-system matrix but also has older FAQ text, so it is not as clear a basis for choosing a current OS.

Can aaPanel run on a 1 GB RAM VPS?
A 1 GB RAM VPS exceeds aaPanel’s published 512 MB minimum for the panel, so it may meet the panel’s stated memory requirement. That alone does not establish that the server has enough memory for a website or app stack. The operating system and hosted services need memory too, and aaPanel provides no benchmark showing what workload a 1 GB VPS can handle.

Shared-hosting accounts are not a substitute for a server where you can install a control panel: aaPanel’s Quick Start says shared-hosting users need a VPS or cloud server. Check that the server gives you a supported Linux installation and the resources your planned services require.

How to size hardware for websites, databases and Docker apps
Start with the services you intend to run, rather than treating aaPanel’s minimum as a sizing recommendation. A server running the panel alone has a different resource load from one also running a website, database and containers. The official documentation does not provide a universal RAM figure for aaPanel plus WordPress, or a traffic-to-hardware sizing chart.
For Docker, aaPanel says one-click applications have different requirements. Its Docker interface limits the CPU and memory that can be assigned according to the host’s physical CPU cores and memory. Those controls help allocate available resources; they do not create additional capacity or establish a suitable host size. See the aaPanel Docker documentation for the feature’s details.

- List the websites, databases and other services the server must run.
- Check each application’s own requirements rather than assuming the aaPanel minimum covers it.
- Verify the server’s allocated CPU, RAM and storage, and account for the operating system as well as hosted services.
- For containerized applications, confirm the host has enough resources for the applications you plan to run; Docker limits are bounded by host capacity.
Should you install aaPanel inside Docker?
Do not confuse aaPanel’s Docker management feature with running aaPanel itself inside a Docker container. In a September 3, 2024 forum response, aaPanel staff recommended using a virtual machine to try the panel, saying that many Docker functions may not work normally otherwise. This is staff guidance for a test setup, not a current formal support matrix. See the forum response for that context.
Prepare the server before installation
An aaPanel staff tutorial dated October 31, 2023 advises installing on a clean operating system without an existing Apache, Nginx, PHP or MySQL environment. Because this is older forum guidance, consult the current installation instructions if the server already has services installed, rather than assuming they can safely coexist.
