There is no single RAM kit that fits every ASUS ROG Strix. First identify the exact laptop or desktop motherboard, then use its ASUS specifications and memory support information to confirm the DDR generation, module type, capacity, slots and supported speed. Check the exact kit part number before buying.
Start with the exact ROG Strix model
“ROG Strix” is a product family, not a memory specification. Strix laptops and desktop motherboards differ in RAM generation, physical module type, capacity and supported configurations. A kit that fits one Strix model may be unsuitable for another.

For a laptop
Find the laptop’s complete model identifier and consult its ASUS product specifications and manual. ASUS’s ROG India laptop-upgrade guide directs owners to the specifications or manual for their specific model because supported memory and procedures vary. Do not use another Strix laptop’s maximum capacity or installation steps as a substitute.

Identify the exact motherboard model, rather than relying on the case or graphics-card name. On the ASUS support page for that board, look for its specifications and memory QVL (Qualified Vendor List). The QVL lists tested memory part numbers and configurations for that particular board; it does not establish compatibility with other Strix boards.

Match the RAM type, capacity and slots
Confirm both the memory generation (such as DDR4 or DDR5) and the module form factor. Laptops commonly use smaller SO-DIMMs, while desktop motherboards use DIMMs, but the exact model specifications—not the product category alone—decide what fits. DDR4 and DDR5 are different memory generations; do not assume a kit for one will work in a system specified for the other.
Check maximum capacity, number of memory slots, supported module capacities and any limits on the number of modules together. These details determine which layouts are possible. For example, a stated maximum may require filling two slots with modules of a particular capacity; it does not mean that any combination adding up to that total is supported.

ASUS’s 2024 ROG Strix laptop example specifies DDR5 SO-DIMM and shows up to 64GB using two 32GB modules. That is an example for the model context on that page, not a capacity specification for every Strix laptop or desktop.

For a desktop board, compare the candidate kit’s full part number and module configuration with the board’s current memory QVL. The list can include the kit’s rated speed, timings and configuration. Check the exact board revision or model page where applicable, and recheck the listing before purchasing because support information is model-specific.

A kit’s advertised or listed memory speed is not a guarantee that every system will run it at that speed. ASUS’s ROG Strix B650-A GAMING WIFI memory QVL warns: “The system may be unable to run at the maximum supported memory speed due to platform constraints.” Treat the supported speed for your exact system as the relevant limit, not the highest number printed on a kit’s packaging.

These examples illustrate why a board-specific QVL matters: Strix desktop boards can have different memory generations and qualified configurations. A QVL entry is useful evidence for the named board, not a guarantee for a laptop or another motherboard.

Choose a matched configuration, not just a headline speed
Once you have confirmed compatible candidates, compare them in this order:

- Compatibility: the correct DDR generation and module form factor, plus support for your exact device.
- Capacity and layout: a total capacity and number of modules supported by the device’s slots and specifications.
- Operating speed: the speed the system can support, accounting for platform limits as well as the kit’s rating.
- Matched modules: prefer an identical pair or a kit sold as a matched set when the system uses multiple modules.
- Part number: compare the full model number with the QVL where one is available; similar names or capacities do not establish that two kits are identical.
ASUS says that mixing RAM brands may work, but is not recommended because it can lead to compatibility problems or suboptimal performance. It recommends identical modules. The cited ASUS information does not establish a single best capacity, speed or latency for all Strix owners, nor a general gaming-performance gain from upgrading RAM.

Install only when the model’s instructions support it
Follow the manual and service instructions for the exact device. The process below summarizes the example in ASUS ROG India’s laptop-upgrade article; it is not a universal procedure and does not apply to desktop motherboards. ASUS notes that model instructions can differ.
- Back up important files, shut down the laptop and unplug it.
- Use the model’s instructions to remove the bottom panel. ASUS’s example names a size 0 Phillips screwdriver and a guitar pick or plastic pry tool.
- Locate the memory and release the module’s retention clips.
- Align the module notch, insert the module at an angle, then press it down until the clips secure it.
- Reconnect any cables or battery connections that were removed, reassemble the laptop and start it.
- Check that the operating system recognizes the expected memory capacity.
If opening the device is not appropriate for you or conflicts with its service guidance, use a qualified repair professional rather than applying these example steps.
If the new RAM is not recognized
- Shut the device down and check that the module is fully seated, following the exact model’s instructions.
- Recheck that the memory generation, form factor, capacity and configuration match the device’s specifications.
- For a desktop board, verify the kit part number and configuration against that board’s QVL.
- If the system still does not recognize the memory, contact the manufacturer or seek professional help, as ASUS advises.
Before you buy: a model-specific checklist
- Have I identified the complete laptop model or desktop motherboard model?
- Have I confirmed DDR generation and SO-DIMM versus DIMM from that model’s official specifications?
- Do the number and capacity of modules fit its slot count and maximum supported capacity?
- Have I checked the supported speed and, for a motherboard, the exact kit part number on its QVL?
- Am I choosing a matched configuration rather than assuming mixed modules will behave alike?
Buy only after these checks agree for the exact Strix device. A family name or a kit’s advertised speed alone is not enough to establish fit.
