How to Choose Between the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 and OpenRun Pro

OpenRun Pro 2 adds USB-C, higher stated battery life and newer audio and call features. The original Pro may be the better value if it costs less and meets your needs.

Choose the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 if USB-C charging, longer manufacturer-rated battery life, or its newer audio and call features matter to you. The original OpenRun Pro may be the better buy if it costs noticeably less where you live and its magnetic charging and feature set suit your routine. Both are rated IP55, and neither rating makes these headphones suitable for swimming or submersion.

What’s the difference between OpenRun Pro and OpenRun Pro 2?

The clearest practical differences are the charging connector and Shokz’s stated battery figures. The Pro 2 also has a different driver design and newer call-processing features described by Shokz. The water-resistance rating is the same.

Feature OpenRun Pro OpenRun Pro 2
Stated battery life Up to 10 hours of music and calls, according to Shokz’s product page: Shokz OpenRun Pro. Up to 12 hours of music playback, according to Shokz’s product page: Shokz OpenRun Pro 2.
Five-minute quick charge Up to 1.5 hours of playback, according to Shokz Canada’s comparison guide: Shokz Canada comparison. Up to 2.5 hours of playback, according to the same Shokz Canada comparison.
Charging Magnetic charging. USB-C.
Audio design Shokz describes two added bass enhancers. DualPitch combines a bone-conduction driver with an air-conduction driver for bass, as described by Shokz.
Calls Dual noise-canceling microphone, according to Shokz. Dual microphones, with AI noise reduction and wind resistance described by Shokz.
Water resistance IP55. IP55.

The battery and quick-charge numbers are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Actual runtime can vary with use and settings. Shokz’s descriptions of the drivers and call processing explain the designs and features; they do not establish that one model will sound better or deliver better calls for every listener.

Is OpenRun Pro 2 worth upgrading to?

Consider the Pro 2 if one or more of its practical changes would improve how you use your headphones:

#1 Best Overall
SHOKZ OpenRun Pro 2 Bone Conduction Bluetooth Sport Headphones, Black | Bundle with Reflective Strip;DualPitch premium sound;Open ear awareness; Smart Mic; IP55; 12H battery; Running/Cycling/Hiking
  • Unparalleled Audio and Premium sound - Dual drivers combine the clear highs of Bone Conduction Tech with the deep bass of Air Conduction Tech for 12 hours of powerful, 3D audio.Perfect for musical motivation during workouts and runs.
  • Open-Ear Awareness - SHOKZ's signature open-ear design helps you power through your workouts while keeping you safely aware of your surroundings. Leak-free listening ensures your audio remains for your ears only
  • Secure Stable, Lightweight Fit - The weight-optimized design of this unibody frame integrates a Ni-Ti alloy memory wire and ergonomic ear hooks. The result is a secure, comfortable fit that defies slips and shift even during gym sessions or cycling.
  • Dedicated EQ Modes - Customize your audio experience with our dedicated EQ modes on the Shokz App. Enjoy pure bone conduction sound with the newly launched Classic Mode, or boost your audio in noisy environments with Volume Boost Mode.
  • Crystal-Clear Calls - Strategically positioned dual wind-resistant microphones and an AI noise reduction algorithm filter out 96.5% of background noise, including wind at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour.
  • You want USB-C: The Pro 2 replaces the original’s magnetic charging approach with a common connector. That may be more convenient if USB-C is already part of your everyday charging setup.
  • You want more stated runtime: Shokz lists up to 12 hours for Pro 2 versus up to 10 hours for Pro. Treat these as maximum manufacturer estimates, not a guaranteed two-hour difference in your own use.
  • You often need a quick top-up: Shokz Canada lists up to 2.5 hours of playback from a five-minute charge for Pro 2, compared with up to 1.5 hours for Pro.
  • You want the newer design and call features: Pro 2’s DualPitch setup adds an air-conduction driver alongside bone conduction, and Shokz describes AI noise reduction and wind resistance for calls. These are reasons to consider it, not proof of a universal sound or call-quality advantage.

If your current OpenRun Pro works well and none of those changes address a problem you have, the listed specifications alone do not make upgrading essential.

When is the original OpenRun Pro the better buy?

The original can make sense when its current price is substantially lower and you are comfortable with magnetic charging and its earlier feature set. The comparison is a value decision, not simply a newer-versus-older choice: the Pro 2’s advantages matter only if you will use them enough to justify the price difference.

Prices change by market and over time. The captured Shokz US product page displayed $179.95 for the Pro 2 when accessed in 2026; that is not a guaranteed current price or a directly comparable price for the original. Check both models’ live prices in your region before deciding.

Can you wear either model in the rain or while swimming?

Both models have an IP55 rating, so water resistance does not distinguish them. That rating is not a basis for treating either pair as waterproof for swimming or submersion. Check Shokz’s current guidance for the model and market you are buying in if your intended use involves substantial water exposure.

How should you make the final choice?

  1. Compare the live local prices. Check the original Pro and Pro 2 in the market where you will buy; a US Pro 2 listing does not establish prices elsewhere.
  2. Decide whether USB-C is worth paying for. Choose Pro 2 if its connector fits your charging habits; choose Pro if magnetic charging is acceptable and the savings are meaningful.
  3. Match the battery claims to your routine. The Pro 2 has higher stated maximum runtime and quick-charge figures, but your actual results may differ.
  4. Choose based on features, not assumed sound superiority. Pro 2 has the newer DualPitch driver description and call-processing claims from Shokz. The available specifications do not provide independent comparative sound or call testing.

Shokz Canada’s comparison also lists four preset EQ modes and two customizable profiles for Pro 2. App and feature availability can vary by region, so verify those details locally if EQ options are central to your decision.
