Choose the MINISFORUM MS-03 if you need Windows 11 Pro, substantial internal expansion, or several high-speed wired network connections. Choose the Mac mini M4 if you want macOS in a smaller, lighter desktop and its fixed memory, storage, and port options suit your work. There is no established head-to-head benchmark here to declare one the faster all-purpose computer; your applications and configuration matter more than a comparison of core counts.
At a glance: what separates these compact PCs?
The MS-03 is built around expansion: it has two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, three NVMe slots, a PCIe expansion slot, and multiple fast wired network interfaces. Apple’s Mac mini M4 takes the opposite approach: a smaller, lighter macOS desktop with unified memory and storage selected at purchase. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative test results. See MINISFORUM’s MS-03 specifications and Apple’s Mac mini (2024) specifications.

| Decision area | MINISFORUM MS-03 | Mac mini M4 | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | MS-03-S386H lists an Intel Core Ultra 9 386H with 16 cores and 16 threads; MS-03-S336H lists an Intel Core Ultra 5 336H with 12 cores and 12 threads. | M4 has a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. | Core counts across different chip architectures do not establish which machine is faster. Compare the exact applications and configurations you use. |
| Memory | Two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots; MINISFORUM lists support up to 128 GB. | 16 GB unified memory in the base M4 configuration; configurable to 24 GB or 32 GB. | The MS-03 offers a higher stated capacity and replaceable modules. Apple’s unified memory is part of the Mac’s architecture, so capacity is not a direct performance equivalent to PC memory. |
| Internal storage | Three M.2 NVMe slots. MINISFORUM describes two PCIe 5.0 x4 slots and one PCIe 4.0 x1 slot; form-factor and slot details matter. | 256 GB SSD in the base M4 configuration; configurable up to 2 TB. | The MS-03 provides internal expansion paths. With the Mac mini, choose adequate internal storage at purchase or plan for external storage. |
| Wired networking | One 10GbE RJ-45, one 2.5GbE RJ-45, and two 10G SFP+ ports; Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are listed. | Gigabit Ethernet, configurable to 10Gb Ethernet; Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. | The MS-03 offers more built-in wired interfaces, but benefiting from them requires compatible network equipment, cables, and, for SFP+, optics or direct-attach cables as appropriate. |
| Ports and expansion | Two USB4 ports, HDMI 2.1, multiple Type-A ports, and a physical PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for a half-height, single-slot card within MINISFORUM’s listed dimensions. | Three rear Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, Ethernet, and two front USB-C ports. | The MS-03 has an internal PCIe card route and extensive networking. The Mac mini puts USB-C access on the front and provides Thunderbolt connectivity. |
| Operating system | Windows 11 Pro support is listed; selected SKUs support Intel vPro. | macOS. | Start with application, peripheral, and administration compatibility. Do not assume identical vPro support across every MS-03 SKU. |
| Size and mass | 196 × 189 × 48 mm; 1.4 kg. | 12.7 × 12.7 × 5 cm; 0.67 kg for M4. | The Mac mini has the smaller footprint and lower listed mass; the MS-03 uses more space in exchange for expansion. |
Choose the MS-03 for expansion and wired networking
The MS-03 is the stronger fit when a compact desktop needs to behave more like a small workstation or network appliance than a sealed, minimal desktop. MINISFORUM lists two SO-DIMM slots supporting up to 128 GB, three NVMe slots, and a physical PCIe 4.0 x4 expansion slot. The PCIe slot accepts a half-height, single-slot card within the dimensions on the product page, so check card size and requirements before buying.
Its network configuration is a particular differentiator: one 10GbE RJ-45, one 2.5GbE RJ-45, and two 10G SFP+ ports. Those connections are useful only if the rest of the network supports the intended speed and interface. Confirm switch ports, cabling, transceivers or direct-attach cables, and the configuration you plan to use.

How to make the decision for your setup
- Check operating-system requirements. Confirm that your essential applications, peripherals, and administrative tools work with Windows 11 Pro or macOS, as appropriate. This is the first decision, not a tie-breaker.
- Work out your memory needs. If you need more than 32 GB or want replaceable DDR5 SO-DIMMs, the MS-03’s listed capacity and slots are relevant. If you choose a Mac mini, select its unified-memory configuration up front.
- Count internal drives and expansion cards. For several internal NVMe drives or a compatible half-height, single-slot PCIe card, check the MS-03’s slot details and card limits. If one internal SSD is enough, choose the Mac’s storage capacity carefully or account for external storage.
- Map your network connections. Match the computer’s ports to your switch, cables, optics, NAS, or other equipment. The MS-03’s 10GbE and SFP+ ports are not a speed upgrade on their own; your network must support them.
- Check displays and desk constraints. Apple specifies up to three displays for M4, with modes depending on the arrangement. MINISFORUM lists HDMI up to 4K at 120 Hz and two USB4 ports with DisplayPort 2.1 Alt Mode; do not infer a maximum simultaneous display count from the number of ports. Compare the actual display connections you need, as well as the machines’ listed dimensions and mass.
- Compare the exact local configurations. Price the MS-03 CPU variant and included RAM and SSD against the Mac mini’s chosen memory and storage. Store configurations and displayed prices can change; also check local warranty and return terms. No stable like-for-like price comparison is established here.
Is either one proven to be faster?
No direct MS-03-versus-Mac mini M4 benchmark is established by the available product information. The CPU core counts describe different processors and architectures; they do not provide a reliable ranking by themselves. A useful comparison would need matching applications, workloads, and configuration details. MINISFORUM’s own published noise figures or Cinebench R23 comparison with its earlier MS-01 are not tests against the Mac mini M4, and they should not be treated as such.
For a workload-specific decision, look for independent results that test the exact MS-03 CPU variant and Mac mini configuration in the applications you use. Until then, choose based on operating system, memory and storage requirements, expansion, networking, and desk space rather than a universal speed claim.
