Samsung’s SmartThings Home Care can alert you when a connected appliance needs attention, including when a refrigerator water filter needs replacing or an air purifier needs cleaning. It can surface the reminder and, for appliance issues, offer troubleshooting guidance; it does not do the maintenance for you.
What SmartThings Home Care does
Home Care monitors connected appliances and sends alerts when an appliance has an issue or needs attention. Samsung says alerts can appear in your phone’s notification panel and in Home Care in the SmartThings app. The feature is best understood as a way to keep a maintenance task visible, rather than as an automatic service for the appliance. Which maintenance tasks can it flag?
Refrigerator water-filter replacement
Samsung gives a refrigerator water-filter replacement reminder as one example. If you need a replacement, check your refrigerator’s model before choosing a filter; the Home Care alert alone does not establish which filter fits your appliance. Samsung US support
Air-purifier cleaning
Samsung also cites an alert that an air purifier requires cleaning. That is a notice to take action, not a claim that SmartThings cleans the purifier or identifies a replacement filter. Samsung US support

What to do when an appliance alert appears
For an appliance issue, Home Care can show an error code and troubleshooting instructions. If the suggested steps do not resolve it, Samsung says you can request repair service or contact support through the app. Samsung US support
How to find Home Care in SmartThings
- Open the SmartThings app and select the Life tab.
- Choose Home Care.
- Check the appliance alert and follow the available maintenance or troubleshooting guidance.

What you need, and where availability can vary
Samsung UK says appliances should be connected to Wi-Fi or another wireless network and registered with one Samsung Account. Availability can vary by country, service provider, network and device, so seeing the feature described by Samsung does not guarantee that every appliance or region supports it. Is this the same as Samsung phone maintenance?
No: Home Care is the likely match when the task is household-appliance upkeep. Samsung separately describes Battery and device care for Galaxy phones, including daily auto-optimization with a configurable run time and an option to close background apps. That phone feature is a different kind of maintenance and should not be confused with SmartThings Home Care. Samsung India support
