What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Choose by comparing the specific phones you would buy—not by looking for a universal winner. Start with the devices, accounts and services you already use; check which features and support apply to each exact model in your country; then weigh switching effort, accessibility and total cost.
Start with the devices and services already in your life
A phone can be part of a larger setup: laptop, tablet, watch, earbuds, smart-home devices, cloud storage and the services your friends or family use. List the items and habits you rely on, then check what each candidate phone will connect to and how smoothly you can use it.
- Files and nearby sharing: Google highlights Quick Share across Android, ChromeOS and Windows. Check whether that fits the computers and people you exchange files with.
- Calls and everyday services: Google promotes Meet and its other services on Android. Apple’s iOS 26 announcement describes features across Phone, Messages, CarPlay, Music, Maps, Wallet and accessibility. These are examples of each company’s offerings, not proof that one ecosystem is better for every reader. Google’s Android switching guide and Apple’s iOS 26 announcement can help you check the services and features that matter to you.
- Accessories: Google says Android supports Bluetooth accessories including AirPods; check the functions you expect rather than assuming every accessory works identically across phones.
- Accounts and subscriptions: Note where your photos, contacts, passwords, files and paid apps are stored. A service may be available on both platforms, but its features or setup may differ.
Compare the exact phone models, not just the platforms
“Android” includes phones from multiple manufacturers and at different price points; iPhone models also differ from one another. Make a shortlist of actual devices and compare the details that affect your daily use.
| What to compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Size and handling | Dimensions, weight, screen size and whether you can comfortably use the phone one-handed. |
| Screen and controls | Display characteristics, physical controls and any accessibility options you rely on. |
| Camera | Which camera features and recording options the exact model offers; consider the kinds of photos and video you take. |
| Battery and storage | Capacity and storage tier for the model you plan to buy. Do not infer real-world endurance from platform alone. |
| Connectivity | Network bands, SIM or eSIM support, Wi-Fi and other connections relevant to your carrier and accessories. |
| Support | The manufacturer’s published software and security update commitment for that particular model and region. |
| Cost to own | Current local unlocked price, carrier financing, trade-in offer, storage tier, repair coverage and accessories. |
There is no single Android update period established for every manufacturer and model, and the sources cited here do not establish equivalent support durations across platforms. Verify the commitment for each shortlisted phone with its manufacturer before buying.

Decide how much customization and choice you want
Consider whether you prefer a smaller set of models and a more consistent interface, or a wider range of manufacturers, designs and configurations. Then check the actual phone: available settings, hardware controls and software features vary by model. Neither preference is inherently better; the useful question is which phone gives you the flexibility or consistency you want without giving up something important.
Check accessibility and the features you rely on
Write down any essential accessibility settings or functions before comparing phones. Apple’s iOS 26 announcement includes accessibility among the areas receiving features, but availability depends on the device and software. Ask the manufacturer or carrier whether a specific feature works on the exact model and in your language and region, and try it in person if possible.
Apply the same check to other deciding features—such as a particular camera mode, connectivity option or service. A platform-level feature list does not guarantee that every phone has the same hardware or software support.

Compare privacy and security on the devices you would buy
Look at the controls and update support on the exact models rather than relying on broad labels such as “more private” or “more secure.” Apple documents per-app location permissions, one-session access on supported versions, and ways to review or revoke access. Google describes Android security features and ongoing security updates on its switching page; that page does not specify one update period for every Android phone. These vendor descriptions are not an independent head-to-head security assessment.
For each candidate, check which apps can access your location, how you can review permissions, and how long the manufacturer says it will provide updates. Apple’s explanation of location controls is available in its location services and privacy guide; for Android, verify the applicable controls and update commitment with the phone’s manufacturer.
Treat AI features as model- and region-specific
Apple says Apple Intelligence is not available on all iPhone models or in all languages and regions. Google promotes Gemini and Circle to Search on Android. Before making AI a deciding factor, confirm that the particular feature works on the exact phone, in your language and region. The vendor materials cited here do not provide a fair comparative AI benchmark, so they cannot establish which platform’s AI is better overall. Apple’s availability caveats appear in its iOS 26 announcement.

Plan the switch before you buy
Switching is possible in either direction, but not every item transfers automatically. Before purchasing, make an inventory of messages, photos, files, contacts, authenticator access, paid apps and subscriptions. Confirm that you can sign in to your important accounts on the new phone, and check the supported transfer steps for the direction you are moving.
Moving from Android to iPhone
Apple’s Move to iOS process is used during iPhone setup. Apple says it can transfer contacts, message history and SMS, camera photos and videos, albums, files and folders, accessibility and display settings, bookmarks, mail accounts, WhatsApp messages and media, Voice Memos, call history and calendars. Some free apps may be matched for later download if they exist in both stores and support the feature. Music, books and PDFs need to be moved manually, according to Apple Support’s transfer instructions.

Keep both phones powered and near each other, and make sure the iPhone has enough capacity for the content you are moving. The process starts during iPhone setup; if setup is already complete, Apple says to erase the iPhone and start again to use Move to iOS, or transfer content manually. eSIM activation may involve your carrier.
A compatible USB-C cable for phone transfer is an optional way to connect devices when the phones support it. Confirm both phones’ ports and that the cable supports data transfer; not every cable or device combination will work the same way.
Moving from iPhone to Android
Google advises people moving from iPhone to Android to turn off iMessage and FaceTime and deregister iMessage so they do not miss message notifications. Follow Google’s switching guidance, and check with your device maker or carrier for the instructions that apply to your phone, region and setup. Google points Samsung switchers to Smart Switch instructions; the transfer process is not necessarily identical across Android manufacturers.
Check messaging after the change
Google says RCS is available across Android and iOS and describes features such as high-quality media sharing, group chats and reactions. Availability and behavior can depend on device, carrier and region. Confirm that RCS works with your carrier and the people you message, and make sure iMessage has been deregistered if you moved from iPhone.

Compare the real cost in your country
Compare the current price of each exact phone where you live, including the storage tier you need. Add carrier financing terms, trade-in value, repair coverage and any accessories you expect to buy. The lowest advertised starting price may not represent the configuration or ownership cost you will actually choose; no current price or total-cost comparison is established by the sources cited here.
Quick Recap
Make the decision with a short checklist
- List your must-haves: Include essential services, accessibility needs, hardware features, apps and accessories.
- Choose exact candidates: Select phones available through your carrier or retailer, rather than comparing platform names in the abstract.
- Verify availability: Check each desired feature, AI function, connectivity option and accessibility setting for the model, language and region.
- Check support and cost: Confirm the update commitment and calculate the local cost for the configuration and carrier terms you will use.
- Plan migration: Identify content that transfers, what needs manual handling, and any account, authenticator or eSIM steps.
- Choose the phone that fits your routine: Give the most weight to the factors you cannot easily change after purchase, such as hardware, ecosystem compatibility and support.
