If your mouse disconnects or feels delayed during a match, start with the connection type, battery or cable, and direct USB-port checks. Then isolate wireless receiver placement, test the mouse on another computer, and only after that investigate Windows power settings or software. A delay does not by itself identify the cause, and no single polling-rate setting is established as a universal fix.
First identify what is happening
Separate a full disconnect from a cursor that remains connected but feels delayed. Also note whether it happens after the PC wakes, at regular intervals, or only during a particular match. These clues help decide which checks apply; Logitech lists drops, wake failures, lag, and delay among possible connection symptoms, with causes that can include low battery, USB hubs, wireless interference, Windows USB power settings, or a device, battery, or receiver fault (Logitech connection troubleshooting).

Next identify the connection path. The checks differ for a wired USB mouse, a wireless mouse using a USB receiver, and a Bluetooth mouse. Microsoft provides separate guidance for USB receiver and Bluetooth problems, so do not apply receiver steps to a Bluetooth connection (Microsoft mouse and keyboard troubleshooting for Windows 10 and Windows 11).

| Connection type | Start with |
|---|---|
| Wired USB | Inspect and reseat the cable; test a different direct USB port. |
| Wireless USB receiver | Check battery or charge, reseat the receiver, try another direct port, and improve receiver placement. |
| Bluetooth | Check battery or charge and use Windows Bluetooth troubleshooting and pairing checks. |
Work through the fast physical checks
- Check power. Charge a rechargeable mouse or try fresh batteries in a battery-powered model. A low battery can contribute to connection problems (Logitech).
- Check the physical link. For a wired mouse, look for cable damage and reseat the cable. For a USB wireless mouse, unplug and reconnect its receiver. Microsoft suggests waiting about 10 seconds before reconnecting a wireless USB receiver (Microsoft).
- Change the USB port. Connect directly to a different port on the computer rather than through a hub or dock. If a hub is in the path, temporarily bypass it to see whether behavior changes. Microsoft recommends checking connections, trying another port, and testing without an intervening hub (Microsoft).
If the mouse uses a wireless USB receiver
Try the receiver in a different direct port and place it where the mouse has a clearer, shorter path to it. If it is plugged into a rear port behind the PC, a front port may improve its position. Where practical, move nearby wireless or electrical devices away from the receiver and mouse; Logitech identifies receiver placement and nearby wireless devices as possible contributors to connection trouble (Logitech connection troubleshooting).

For Logitech M280, M320, and M275 mice specifically, Logitech recommends keeping other electrical devices at least 8 inches (20 cm) away and moving the mouse closer to the receiver or changing its port. That spacing is model-family guidance, not a guarantee or universal requirement for other mice (Logitech M280/M320/M275 guidance).
If changing ports and placement is inconvenient, a USB extension cable can be used to position the receiver closer to the mouse. Treat it as an optional placement aid, not a fix for a failing battery, damaged hardware, Bluetooth trouble, software problems, or every form of interference.

If the mouse uses Bluetooth
Do not unplug or reposition a USB receiver that the mouse does not use. Instead, follow Windows Bluetooth troubleshooting: check that the mouse is powered, confirm its Bluetooth connection or pairing, and use the Bluetooth-specific steps in Microsoft’s guidance for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (Microsoft mouse and keyboard troubleshooting).

Use another computer to narrow down the fault
When basic checks do not resolve the issue, connect the mouse to another computer and use its required driver if applicable. Microsoft recommends this cross-computer test and says a device that still does not work on another PC may need replacement (Microsoft).

- If the problem follows the mouse to another computer, the mouse, its cable, battery, or receiver becomes a stronger suspect.
- If it works on the other computer, investigate the original PC’s port, operating system, power configuration, or software.
This comparison narrows the possibilities but does not prove which component has failed.
Check Windows power and software only after the basics
Logitech lists USB selective suspend and USB hub power management as possible causes of some intermittent disconnects, including certain wired and gaming-mouse issues (Logitech gaming mouse connection troubleshooting; Logitech connection troubleshooting). Power controls and labels can vary by Windows release, device, and power plan, so check current Windows controls and the mouse maker’s instructions for the exact model before changing them. Treat a power-setting change as a test: change one item, check whether the problem improves, and restore it if it does not.

If the connection checks and power tests do not help, check Windows Update and the manufacturer’s supported driver or firmware tools for your mouse model. Logitech notes that some older utilities are no longer maintained, so use current instructions for the specific device rather than assuming an old utility is still appropriate (Logitech connection troubleshooting).
For lag that is not a full disconnect
If the mouse stays connected but feels delayed, compare its behavior in and outside the match. Change only one setting at a time so you can tell whether the change matters. The cited manufacturer and Windows guidance recognizes lag or delayed behavior, but does not establish a particular polling rate, DPI value, surface, or in-game setting as the cause or a guaranteed remedy. Avoid treating any one of those settings as a universal fix.
