The right D&D dice are the ones the player can read, orient, handle, and roll comfortably. Braille dice, high-contrast physical dice, and screen-reader-friendly digital rollers can all work; none is best for everyone. Ask the player what suits them and, if possible, let them try a sample before buying. Dice are only one part of access: character sheets, rules, maps, and game interfaces may need separate accommodations.
Start with the player’s preferred way to read a roll
Before comparing products, ask whether the player prefers tactile markings, larger visual markings, digital output, or a combination. Blind and low-vision players do not all use the same tools or have the same access needs. A set that works well for one person may be difficult for another.

Use these questions to guide a trial:
- Can the player identify the marking system independently? For braille dice, confirm the player reads the exact code used on the dice.
- Can they tell which way a face is oriented? Look for a tactile cue that helps distinguish an upright reading from a rotated one.
- Can they see the markings in their usual conditions? For remaining vision, check lettering, contrast, typeface, lighting, and viewing distance.
- Are the dice comfortable to handle and roll? Consider whether the player can pick them up, distinguish them by touch, and roll them without strain.
- Would a digital result be easier? Try it with the player’s own screen reader, magnification, device, and preferred spoken or text output.
These are practical comparison points, not a universal scoring system. Check current price, stock, regional availability, and return terms directly before purchasing; these details can change.
Options for blind players who read braille
DOTS Signature Braille RPG Dice
DOTS dice use one braille cell on each face and do not include printed numerals. Their code assigns A–J to 1–10 and K–T to 11–20, so the player should be comfortable with that system before you buy. The raised Touch Point Edge acts as an underline-like cue to help orient a face. The two d10s also have different tips—one pointed, one blunt—to distinguish them for percentile rolls. DOTS says the dice launched in December 2024 and are sold through production partner Die Hard Dice. Read DOTS’ braille-dice information and its official information sheet.

When a digital roller is the better fit
Digital rolling is a valid way to play, not a lesser substitute for physical dice. A browser-based roller may present results as plain text and speech, which can be easier to navigate than a handful of physical dice—especially for dice pools. Knights of the Braille describes the DDR Dice Roller in those terms. Test the tool with the player’s screen reader and device, since virtual tabletop accessibility varies and can change over time. Explore Knights of the Braille’s resources.

Make the choice without assuming dice solve every barrier
A 2022 study of blind and low-vision tabletop gaming—not a controlled comparison of D&D dice—reports broader barriers including small text, decorative fonts, low contrast, inaccessible manuals, and game pieces that are not tactilely distinct. That means an accessible die set may still leave a player unable to use a character sheet, rulebook, map, or digital interface without further changes. Ask what else would make the session workable. Read the 2022 tabletop-gaming study.
The publisher’s announcement for the Disability Pride Dice Set makes the same point about individual needs: Bailey Vaughan, D&D Beyond Senior Content Specialist and DAA Champion of Accessibility Advocacy and Education, said, “We knew going in that since the disability community is extremely diverse, we wouldn’t be able to create a set of dice that addresses every barrier a disabled player may face.”
