Check that the specific headset version supports each platform, that its included transmitter or wireless mode works with that device, and that both game audio and voice chat are supported. Then compare fit, microphone and controls, battery claims, and how it handles Bluetooth audio.
Start with your platform list and connection needs
Write down every device you plan to use: for example, a Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, or phone. For each one, verify the exact headset model and generation, the connection method, and whether the microphone works for chat as well as the game audio. A headset may connect to a device for sound without supporting the voice-chat path you need.

- Platform and chat: Confirm game audio and microphone/chat support on every device, not just general compatibility.
- Transmitter and ports: Check whether it uses a 2.4 GHz USB dongle, Bluetooth, or another wireless connection; note whether the dongle is USB-C or USB-A and whether an adapter is included.
- Multiple audio sources: If you want phone audio while gaming, confirm that simultaneous playback is supported. Bluetooth pairing alone does not establish that game and phone audio can play together.
- Fit: Compare headband and earcup adjustment, materials, weight where published, and how the headset feels for your intended session length.
- Chat controls: Look for a convenient mute control and game/chat balance adjustment; check the microphone design and any stated noise-handling features.
- Power: Compare manufacturer battery and charging claims, while treating them as specifications rather than independent endurance tests.
- Purchase terms: Check the current listing, warranty, and return policy for your region before buying; those details vary by seller and were not established here.
Why Xbox compatibility needs special checking
Xbox compatibility can depend on the specific headset model and transmitter mode. Do not assume a headset advertised for PC and PlayStation will work on Xbox, or that a different dongle will add Xbox support. SteelSeries says Xbox compatibility is built into the relevant model rather than added to a non-Xbox model with another transmitter; its transmitter guidance is a useful example of that distinction.

Example: Arctis Nova 7X Wireless Gen 2
SteelSeries’ support instructions say the included 2.4 GHz dongle connects to Xbox when set to “Xbox” mode. The same dongle uses “USB” mode for PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android, and Meta Quest. This is a model-specific setup, not a rule that applies to every wireless headset. Check the instructions for the exact headset you are considering. SteelSeries’ Nova 7X connection instructions describe this mode switch.

Compare the connection setup, not just the platform list
Two headsets that list the same consoles may differ in how they connect. A USB-C dongle may need an adapter for a device with USB-A; a headset may rely on Bluetooth for mobile audio but use a separate 2.4 GHz link for gaming. Check the physical ports and the switching steps you will actually use at your desk or console.
For example, SteelSeries documents USB mode for the Arctis 7X on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Android, and says a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter is included for devices without USB-C. Its support information also describes audio and microphone routing on supported platforms. That is evidence for this specific headset setup, not for other products with similar names. When Bluetooth and game audio need to coexist
If you want calls, music, or notifications from a phone while game audio continues, look for explicit simultaneous-audio support. SteelSeries says the Arctis Nova 7X Wireless Gen 2 can use 2.4 GHz game audio and Bluetooth mobile audio at the same time. That capability is useful for that model; do not infer it from Bluetooth pairing alone. SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X Wireless Gen 2 specifications

Judge comfort, microphone, and controls as separate questions
Specifications can help narrow choices, but they do not establish how a headset will feel or sound in your room. Check the published weight, headband and earcup adjustment, and materials, then use a return policy that gives you a practical way to assess fit. For voice chat, distinguish a stated feature such as noise rejection or voice isolation from a measured result: the cited product information does not provide independent comparative tests of comfort, microphone quality, or noise handling.
Controls matter in use, too. If you regularly adjust chat against game sound, prioritize an accessible game/chat balance control. If you take calls while playing, verify both Bluetooth behavior and how the headset handles the two sources at once. Microsoft describes earcup game/chat controls and Bluetooth phone pairing for its Xbox Wireless Headset; SteelSeries specifies simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth audio for the Nova 7X Wireless Gen 2. Their feature descriptions are not evidence that the controls or sound quality are equivalent.
