There is no evidence-backed universal best Magpul grip: the right choice depends first on your firearm’s platform, then on grip angle, profile, surface, and whether you want modular parts or storage. For an AR15/M4, the MOE-K2 is a straightforward starting point for a more vertical grip angle; the MOE-K2+ adds rubber overmolding. Confirm compatibility with the exact firearm and grip model before buying.
Start with your firearm’s platform
Magpul groups grips by firearm family, including AR15/M4, AR10/SR25/M110, and AK/AKM. A grip listed for one family should not be assumed to fit another. Check the current Magpul grip catalog and the product page for the exact model, then confirm fit with your firearm manufacturer’s information.

MOE-K2: a more vertical angle without rubber overmolding
The MOE-K2 is an AR15/M4 grip with a more vertical angle. Magpul positions it for short length-of-pull configurations, such as PDWs, and lists compatibility with Magpul Grip Cores. Consider it if those features match your setup and you want the K2 format without the K2+’s rubber overmolding. See Magpul’s MOE-K2 product information for current fit and compatibility details.
#1 Best Overall
- A polymer drop-in replacement; Easily installed without the use of specialized tools
- Uses three set screws to secure it, eliminating the need to install a roll pin with a hammer and punch and greatly reduces the chance of any damage due to improper installation
- Has an ergonomic and enlarged design to accommodate use with gloves or when in cold environments
- Fills the annoying gap at the rear of the standard guard
- All mounting hardware included; Made in the USA
MOE-K2+: the K2 format with rubber overmolding
The MOE-K2+ has a listed 17-degree grip angle, an AR15/M4 fit, and rubber overmolding. Magpul describes its larger profile and closer-in hand position as useful for PDW and short length-of-pull configurations. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independently verified performance findings. Choose it over the standard K2 if the overmolded surface and larger profile are what you want; whether either feels right depends on your hand and preference. Check the current MOE-K2+ product page.
Other catalog options
The catalog also lists the MOE SL, MOE, MOE+, MOE-K, MOE-K2-XL, and MIAD Gen 1.1. The MOE SL is the slimmer-profile option identified in the catalog; MIAD Gen 1.1 is the customizable choice, offered in Type 1 and Type 2 kits. Confirm the right kit type and firearm platform before selecting MIAD. The available manufacturer information does not support ranking these models against one another in a complete, independently tested comparison.

Magpul notes that on some 7.62 NATO AR10/SR25-style rifles, the MOE-K2+ may leave an aesthetic gap at the beavertail, depending on the rifle. Magpul says the gap does not affect function. Because the note is specific to that product and fit can depend on the receiver, check the exact grip and firearm combination before purchase.

Storage cores and customization
Magpul lists Grip Core compatibility for the MOE-K2 and lists storage cores among its grip accessories. Compatibility depends on the specific grip and core, so check both product listings rather than assuming every core fits every model. For a grip you can configure with different components, the catalog lists MIAD Gen 1.1 kits in Type 1 and Type 2; verify the kit type and platform against the current product information.

- Identify the platform. Match the grip’s current manufacturer listing to your firearm family and exact model.
- Choose the angle and configuration. If you want the more vertical K2-family format for a short length-of-pull setup, compare MOE-K2 with MOE-K2+.
- Decide on surface and profile. The K2+ adds rubber overmolding and has a larger profile; the MOE SL is listed as slimmer. Personal preference and hand size require your own assessment.
- Check modularity and storage. Confirm that the chosen grip supports the particular Grip Core or storage accessory you intend to use.
- Review fit notes. Pay attention to product-specific compatibility details, including the K2+ beavertail note for some AR10/SR25-style rifles.
Magpul’s catalog and product pages are the basis for these feature descriptions; they do not provide hands-on comparative testing. Catalog availability and prices can change, so use the current manufacturer listings to confirm details.
