Choose the case from the statue outward. Measure the complete piece on its display base, including weapons, capes, wings, hair, scenery, horses, cables, switches, and every other protrusion. Select a case by its usable internal dimensions, then add clearance so nothing touches the panels. For many First 4 Figures Zelda pieces, a practical starting point is 13–14 inches of usable internal height for a statue marketed as 12 inches tall, but the exact model and pose determine the final fit.
Start with the statue’s real envelope
A case described as a “12-inch cube” is not automatically suitable for a 12-inch statue. Sellers may quote outside dimensions, while the base, lid, panel thickness, corner hardware, and any internal shelf reduce the space you can actually use. A statue can also be taller, wider, or deeper than its product listing suggests once an angled sword, flowing hair, wing, horse tack, or scenic base is included.

Measure height, width, and depth on the base
- Place the statue exactly as it will stand in the case, including its supplied base.
- Measure from the lowest point of the base to the highest rigid point. Include raised weapons, hair, ears, wings, flags, and scenery.
- Measure the maximum left-to-right width. Check the widest point of the base and any overhanging accessory separately.
- Measure the maximum front-to-back depth, including a tail, cape, weapon, horse, or rear scenery that extends beyond the base.
- Record the measurements in both inches and millimetres. Use the largest value seen from several viewing angles, not the dimensions of the central body alone.
Photographing the statue from the front, back, both sides, and above helps reveal an overhang that a single front view hides. Keep those photographs if you later request a custom quote.
Include access and controls
Measure any LED control box, battery compartment, USB plug, or cable bend that must remain accessible. If you lift the statue out rather than opening a front door, leave enough room to tilt it without catching a sword on the lid. A case that technically contains the statue but forces contact during installation is an unsafe fit.

Use published Zelda dimensions as a planning reference
Current listings show why there is no universal “Zelda statue case” size. The figures below are reference envelopes, not permission to order a case with identical internal dimensions.
| Collectible | Published dimensions | What the figure implies for a case |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Hylian Shield Collector’s Edition | 11.5 in H × 8 in W × 5 in D (29 × 20 × 13 cm), including the base | The height is moderate, but the shield’s width and base depth require more than a narrow figure cube. |
| Breath of the Wild Zelda Collector’s Edition | 9.5 in H × 5.6 in W × 5.6 in D (24 × 14 × 14 cm) | A compact static pose may fit a standard cube once clearance is added. |
| Tears of the Kingdom Zelda statue | 12 in H × 6.8 in W × 6.8 in D (30 × 17 × 17 cm); the listing identifies the shown item as a prototype | Plan for a taller, deeper enclosure and verify the production model before ordering. |
The Nintendo dimensions include the Hylian Shield base. The Sideshow listings for the two Zelda statues provide the stated product envelopes, but the Tears of the Kingdom listing notes that its pictured item is a prototype. Treat those figures as a starting point and remeasure the production statue when possible.
Calculate the usable internal dimensions
Normal clearance for a compact pose
Wetop Acrylic’s sizing guidance recommends 10–15 mm of clearance on each side and at least 20 mm above the object. Apply that allowance to the statue’s maximum measurements, then check whether the resulting figure is an internal or external case size. For example, a statue measuring 240 mm high, 140 mm wide, and 140 mm deep needs at least:
- 260 mm of usable internal height (240 + 20 mm above).
- 160–170 mm of usable internal width (10–15 mm on both sides).
- 160–170 mm of usable internal depth (10–15 mm front and back).
Those are minimum clearances for a straightforward pose. They do not account for a difficult lift-out path, a fragile projecting accessory, or a base that must be rotated during installation.
Larger clearance for dynamic poses
S-K Ltd recommends 30–50 mm of internal height clearance and 40–60 mm of total horizontal clearance for complex displays. Use that larger envelope for a figure with a diagonal weapon, wings, a horse, broad scenic elements, or parts that are hard to judge from a product thumbnail. Manufacturer datasheets can omit accessory overhangs, so measure the object itself.
For a 12-inch (about 305 mm) statue, a practical planning target is approximately 13–14 inches (330–356 mm) of usable internal height. That estimate combines the published height with a 30–50 mm allowance; it is not a universal fit guarantee. A tall base, raised sword, or lifting angle can require more.

Convert internal requirements to an outside size
Do not subtract the case’s wall thickness from your statue measurement after ordering. Add it when comparing products. If you need 340 mm of clear internal height and the lid, base, and panels consume 15 mm above and below, an advertised outside height near 370 mm may be required. The exact conversion depends on the maker’s construction, corner joins, base thickness, and whether the quoted height includes feet.

Ask the seller in writing:
- Are the listed dimensions internal, external, or the size of the base?
- Does the quoted height include the lid, plinth, feet, and any shelf?
- What is the uninterrupted opening after the door or lid is removed?
- Are corner posts, locks, or lighting channels inside the stated envelope?
Choose acrylic or glass
Acrylic: the practical default for a desk or shelf
Acrylic is light, clear, and available in standard cubes or custom cuts. It is easier to carry upstairs, place on a typical shelf, and order in an unusual size. Luminati’s current range illustrates the common formats: 150 mm, 300 mm, and 500 mm cubes, a 500 × 350 × 325 mm format, and custom sizing.
Acrylic’s disadvantages are scratch sensitivity, static that attracts dust, and possible optical distortion or haze if it is cleaned with an unsuitable solvent. Keep protective film on until assembly is complete, support large panels evenly, and use only the manufacturer’s recommended non-abrasive cleaning method.
Glass: heavier, more cabinet-like
Glass can give a larger permanent installation a substantial furniture feel and is less prone to fine surface scratches during ordinary dusting. The trade-offs are weight, breakage risk, harder transport, and greater demands on the shelf or cabinet supporting it. Framing and door hardware also matter more as the span increases.
For a normal tabletop Zelda display that may be moved during cleaning or a house move, acrylic is usually the easier material. Glass becomes more attractive when the case is a large, stable installation and its weight and handling have been planned.

What UV protection can and cannot do
Painted PVC and resin can fade or change surface appearance under prolonged light exposure. The National Park Service identifies UV-filtering glass or acrylic as an exhibit option and recommends closed cases to reduce light exposure. A home display case is not a complete conservation environment, however: visible light, heat, humidity, and time still affect materials.

Ask for a measurable UV specification, such as a transmission or blocking figure and the wavelength range covered. “UV protected” without a grade or percentage cannot be compared reliably between sellers. If no specification is supplied, place the case away from direct sun and strong window glare rather than treating the label as a guarantee.
Dust sealing
A fitted lid reduces open-air dust, while a gasket, magnetic closure, or lock can reduce the gaps through which particles enter. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent-case guidance treats cleanability, dust control, lighting, airtightness, and approved materials as conservation-performance requirements. A collector does not need a museum-grade airtight chamber for every statue, but those criteria are useful when comparing a loose lift-off lid with a properly fitted enclosure.
Check how the case opens before buying. A removable top is simple and inexpensive, but it requires overhead clearance and careful lifting. A front door is easier on a tall shelf, while a hinged door needs room to swing and hardware that will not collide with a weapon or wing.

The National Park Service’s exhibit specification states: “Directional LED lighting is preferred for exhibit cases.” It also calls for LED lighting inside the artifact chamber to give off no heat. Follow that principle at home: use low-heat LEDs, aim them from the top or front, and keep the power supply outside the enclosed volume when practical.
Some Zelda collectibles already contain lighting. Nintendo’s Hylian Shield Collector’s Edition listing describes bright LEDs beneath the stand’s gold rivet details. An aftermarket case should reveal that built-in effect rather than wash it out with a brighter lamp.
Lighting checklist
- Choose directional LEDs with a stated low-heat design.
- Leave a route to switches, batteries, or USB connectors.
- Hide or secure wiring so it cannot pull on the statue or prevent the lid from seating.
- Keep lamps and power converters out of contact with acrylic panels and painted surfaces.
- Use a timer or switch if the display will otherwise remain illuminated for long periods.
Never place a hot halogen or incandescent lamp inside a closed acrylic case. Heat can accelerate material aging, soften adhesives, and create a damaging temperature pocket around the figure.

Decide between an off-the-shelf cube and a custom case
When a standard case is enough
Choose a standard cube when the statue is compact, static, and close to common dimensions. It is usually the fastest and least expensive route, and replacement panels or a second matching case may be easier to obtain. Confirm the internal envelope rather than relying on a nominal 300 mm, 400 mm, or 500 mm label.

When custom fabrication is worth it
Request a made-to-measure case for a wide base, extended weapon, horse, wings, tall scenery, unusual depth, built-in LEDs, or a room with a fixed shelf opening. Wetop describes cases made to exact collectible dimensions with grade-specific UV options. PlexiSystem describes made-to-measure cases with UV options, adjustable shelves, directional LEDs, and dust-proof locks.
A custom quote should include:
- Maximum height, width, and depth of the assembled statue and base.
- Base dimensions and any feet that must sit on a specific surface.
- Clear photographs from several angles, including the top and rear.
- The direction from which the case must open and the clearance available around it.
- Lighting type, cable exit location, switch access, and power source.
- Required UV performance, lock or gasket, panel material, and finish.
- The delivered outside dimensions, packed dimensions, weight, lead time, and replacement-panel policy.
Compare cases by the specifications that affect ownership
| Comparison point | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Usable internal dimensions | Clear height, width, and depth after base, lid, shelves, and hardware | Determines whether the statue fits without contact. |
| Clearance | At least 10–15 mm per side and 20 mm above for simple poses; 30–50 mm above and 40–60 mm total horizontally for complex poses | Protects fragile parts and provides an installation path. |
| Material | Acrylic or glass, panel thickness, frame and corner construction | Changes weight, scratch risk, optical quality, and durability. |
| UV performance | Documented blocking or transmission figure and wavelength range | Lets you compare protection instead of trusting an undefined label. |
| Dust control | Fitted lid, gasket, magnetic closure, or lock | Reduces cleaning frequency and airborne contamination. |
| Access | Lift-off lid, hinged door, sliding door, or front panel; opening size | Affects installation, cable access, and shelf placement. |
| Lighting | LED heat output, direction, wiring route, switch and power access | Prevents heat buildup and makes the display usable day to day. |
| Stability | Base thickness, feet, anti-slip surface, wall anchoring, and shelf load | Limits vibration and reduces tip-over risk. |
| Serviceability | Replacement panels, spare hardware, cleaning instructions, and warranty | Makes scratches, broken parts, or a move recoverable. |
| Total delivered cost | Case, shipping, custom work, lighting, taxes, and protective packaging | A low list price is poor value if the case does not fit or arrives damaged. |
Use this buying procedure
- Freeze the display configuration. Install the statue’s supplied base, weapons, capes, wings, scenery, batteries, and cables exactly as intended.
- Measure the maximum envelope. Record height, width, and depth in millimetres, and note which part creates each maximum.
- Add clearance. Use 10–15 mm per side and 20 mm above for a simple pose. Increase to 30–50 mm above and 40–60 mm total horizontally when the pose is dynamic or the accessory is fragile.
- Check the access path. Confirm that the statue can enter, rotate, and leave the case without touching the lid, wall, or door frame.
- Match the outside size to the room. Measure the shelf, desk, wall, doorway, and route used to carry the case into position.
- Choose material and protection. Select acrylic for light, flexible tabletop use or glass for a heavier permanent installation; specify measurable UV performance where light exposure is significant.
- Resolve lighting and cables. Confirm LED heat, switch access, cable exits, and whether the case accommodates any lighting already built into the statue.
- Request written confirmation. Have the seller confirm internal dimensions, panel thickness, opening size, and whether quoted dimensions include the base and lid.
- Inspect before final placement. Check panels for cracks or scratches, test the door or lid, verify that the case sits level, and only then remove protective film and install the statue.
Place and install the case safely
Use a level, rigid surface that can support the combined weight of the case and statue. Keep the enclosure away from direct sunlight, radiators, heating vents, fireplaces, and equipment that exhausts hot air. Avoid a location where a door, chair, or passing cable can strike the panels.
Install the empty case first when possible. Clean the interior, route lighting, and confirm that the door or lid opens fully. Lift a heavy glass case with two people and use the manufacturer’s recommended grips; never lift by a loose lid or a hinged door. For a tall or narrow enclosure, consider anti-tip anchoring appropriate to the furniture and wall construction.
Set the statue down with two hands on its base. Do not pull it by a sword, wing, hair strand, cape, or other projecting element. After installation, close the case slowly and inspect every side for contact. If a part touches the panel, stop and resize the enclosure rather than compressing or bending the accessory.
Clean and maintain the display
Acrylic care
Remove loose dust with the maker-approved soft method before wiping. Use only a clean, non-abrasive cloth and compatible cleaner; ordinary glass cleaner, paper towels, and dry rubbing can create fine scratches or static. Follow the case maker’s instructions because acrylic formulations and coatings differ.

Glass care
Clean glass with a product approved for the frame, seals, and nearby painted surfaces. Keep liquid on the cloth rather than spraying toward joints or the statue. Inspect corners, hinges, locks, and gaskets for looseness after cleaning.
Statue and lighting checks
- Look for dust accumulating at the base and in textured recesses.
- Check that the statue remains level and that no accessory has shifted.
- Inspect LED cables, batteries, and connectors for heat, corrosion, or strain.
- Watch for condensation, haze, or unusual heat inside the enclosure.
- Replace a cracked panel or failed seal instead of leaving the statue exposed behind a damaged case.
Troubleshoot common fit and display problems
“My 300 mm case is too short.”
The quoted 300 mm may be an outside measurement, and the statue’s published height may exclude a base or raised accessory. Recheck the complete assembled height and compare it with the seller’s clear internal height. A taller enclosure, a thinner plinth, or a different opening design may be required; do not force the lid closed.
“The statue fits, but the sword touches the wall.”
Measure the maximum diagonal overhang and apply the horizontal clearance allowance to that point, not only to the body width. Rotate the base only if the statue’s manufacturer permits it and the pose remains stable. Otherwise choose a wider or custom case.
“Dust still enters the case.”
Identify the gap around the lid, door, cable exit, or corner. A fitted gasket or lockable closure can reduce infiltration, but a cable opening may remain a weak point. Clean the seal, confirm that the panel is seated squarely, and ask the maker whether a replacement gasket or tighter closure is available.
“The LEDs make the case warm.”
Turn the lights off and measure whether the heat comes from the lamp, power converter, or an enclosed battery. Move the power supply outside the case, replace a high-heat lamp with a low-heat directional LED, and improve ventilation around the electronics without leaving a large dust opening.
Bottom line for the main Zelda sizes
A 9.5-inch Zelda figure may suit a standard acrylic cube after adding clearance, while the 11.5-inch Hylian Shield and 12-inch Tears of the Kingdom statue need more attention to width, depth, base shape, and access. For the 12-inch class, begin by seeking roughly 13–14 inches of clear internal height, then verify every dimension against the assembled statue. Choose a documented UV-rated, dust-reducing enclosure when the display is near strong light; use low-heat directional LEDs only when wiring and heat are controlled. The correct case is the smallest enclosure that safely clears the real statue—not the smallest box that matches its marketing number.
