“Keep” can mean anything from finding a comic in an app library to saving a separate file you can retain independently. Those are different levels of access. If portability matters most, look for an explicit DRM-free downloadable file; syncing and offline-reading features alone do not establish that you can export a comic or move it to another service.
What does it mean to keep a digital comic?
Before comparing platforms, decide what you want to be able to do after paying. A comic appearing in an account library is useful, but it is not the same as possessing a separate file. Likewise, downloading a title inside an app for offline reading does not necessarily make it available outside that app.

- Account-library access: You can return to a title through the service and your account. This depends on the platform and its terms.
- Offline app access: The app stores a copy for reading without an internet connection. That is app-mediated access, not evidence of an exportable file.
- Downloadable file: The service explicitly provides a file, such as a PDF, that you can retain separately. Check the file terms, format, and any eligibility limits.
- Transfer to another service: This requires specific support for moving a library. Syncing between devices does not mean purchases can be transferred between platforms.
How to compare platforms before buying
- Choose the access type. Check whether you are buying individual comics, reading through a subscription, or using both. Do not assume subscription access works like a purchase.
- Find the retention mechanism. Look for precise wording: account library, offline reading in the app, or a separately downloadable file. If keeping a copy matters, seek an explicit statement about file downloads.
- Check transferability separately. Look for a clear policy on moving purchases to another service. A library that syncs across compatible devices is still tied to the platform unless transfer is specifically supported.
- Verify the exact comic. Search for the series, volume, and issue you want—not just the platform’s total catalog. Eligibility and availability may differ by title.
- Confirm territory and device support. Check that the title and the relevant app or download feature are available where you live and on the devices you use.
- Read file terms before checkout. For a download, confirm the format, whether it is DRM-free, which titles qualify, and whether access to the file depends on an active subscription. DRM-free describes the file’s access restrictions; it does not transfer copyright or permit redistribution.
What the major platform examples establish
Comixology and DC Universe Infinite are separate libraries
The DC Universe Infinite Help Center states: “Comixology is a different service from DC UNIVERSE INFINITE, and your purchases there will not be reflected in your DC UNIVERSE INFINITE account.” DC’s help page on Comixology purchases therefore does not support assuming those purchases will appear in a DC Universe Infinite account.

DC’s 2020 ReadDC.com FAQ described access to a ReadDC library through the DC Comics app and Comixology’s My Books section using the account used at ReadDC.com. That was transition guidance from 2020, not a guarantee of current transfer options.

Marvel describes syncing and offline app reading
Marvel’s Help Center says purchased and redeemed comics sync across compatible devices with a Marvel account. It also explains that comics can be downloaded in the Marvel Unlimited app for offline reading. See Marvel’s pages on syncing purchases across devices and offline downloads. These descriptions establish account syncing and app-based offline access; they do not say that readers receive exportable comic files.
DC Universe Infinite supports offline reading in its apps
DC announced that subscribers can download comics for offline reading on iOS and Android. Its 2025 update announcement describes app-based offline reading, not independent file export.

GlobalComix distinguishes reading licenses from PDF downloads
GlobalComix’s FAQ distinguishes Collection Unlocks, which grant a license to read, from DRM-free PDF downloads, which it describes as providing permanent access to a downloadable PDF. It also says GlobalComix Gold is required to download Collection Unlocks for offline reading. These are distinct access mechanisms: check the specific title and its purchase terms to see which one applies.

Catalog totals can help describe a service, but they do not tell you whether the exact comic you want is available or downloadable. DC’s available-content page currently describes 35,000+ Ultra titles and 30,000+ Standard titles, and says Ultra titles arrive 30 days after print. These are DC’s service-reported, changeable figures, not independent market counts; verify the current page and the individual title listing before relying on them.

Can you download comics you have purchased?
Sometimes, but the word “download” needs context. Marvel and DC describe downloading comics to their apps for offline reading; the cited pages do not establish that those downloads can be exported as files. GlobalComix separately describes DRM-free PDFs for eligible titles. For any platform, inspect the specific comic’s listing and terms before paying if you need a file you can retain independently.
