To check whether YouTube has restricted your channel from live streaming, sign in to the affected channel in YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live. Review the access or setup message in Live Control Room, then check the Studio dashboard and YouTube notifications for strikes or a restriction notice. If you can set up a stream but it fails or looks poor, check the timestamped messages beside the Health Indicator: that points to a stream problem, not necessarily a channel-level restriction.
Check live streaming access in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to the affected channel. Make sure you have selected the channel that cannot go live; access is tied to the channel, not just the Google account you use to sign in.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live. This opens Live Control Room. Read any access, eligibility, or setup message shown there. YouTube’s baseline requirements are a verified channel and no live streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says creators must be at least 16; some requirements differ for mobile streaming. See YouTube live streaming tips and YouTube’s live streaming access requirements.
- Check the Studio dashboard and your YouTube notifications. Look for strikes, takedown notices, or a message saying live streaming has been turned off. Check the email associated with the channel too. A notice may explain the restriction and include appeal instructions if YouTube considers an appeal available.
- Open Content > Live. Review current, upcoming, and past streams. This helps distinguish an inability to create a stream from an issue affecting a stream that already exists or was scheduled. See Manage your live stream in YouTube Studio.
YouTube’s public help pages explain general rules, but they cannot show the private status of an individual channel. The message and notices displayed in the affected channel’s Studio are the most relevant account-specific clues.

Tell a channel restriction from a stream error
A channel restriction affects whether the channel can live stream. A stream error can affect one broadcast even when the channel has access. In Live Control Room, check the messages beside the Health Indicator. YouTube says these messages are timestamped; red errors are critical and yellow errors are moderate. Follow the specific message rather than assuming every failed broadcast means the channel is restricted. See Live streaming error messages.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Studio says you do not have access or shows a restriction notice: investigate channel eligibility, strikes, and the notice’s instructions.
- Studio allows setup, but Live Control Room shows a Health Indicator error: investigate that stream’s specific format, connection, or other reported issue.
- You can stream, but cannot create another one: YouTube says a daily stream creation limit can block additional streams for 24 hours. This is distinct from a general loss of live streaming access.
- Only some features are unavailable: audience settings can affect individual features without disabling live streaming altogether.
Reasons YouTube may turn off live streaming
YouTube says live streaming can be disabled temporarily or permanently. Its listed reasons include policy and copyright enforcement, including:
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
- A Community Guidelines strike or a live stream removed for violating the guidelines.
- A live stream matching another copyrighted broadcast.
- Certain child-safety violations, including a stream featuring minors under 16 without a visibly accompanying adult.
- A significant number of videos on the channel having features disabled.
- A proposed stream that YouTube determines would violate Community Guidelines.
A match to third-party content may trigger a warning, interruption, or termination. An active copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also result in a stream being terminated. For details, read YouTube’s live streaming restrictions and Copyright issues with live streams.
Made-for-kids settings are a separate consideration: they can disable or limit particular features, such as live chat, comments, reminder notifications, highlights, or personalized ads. Those feature changes do not, by themselves, establish that the channel has lost live streaming access.

Check permissions if controls are missing
If someone else manages the channel, ask the owner to check your YouTube Studio role. Owners and managers can manage live streams. Editors can manage streams with limitations, while viewers can monitor but cannot manage them. A missing control may therefore reflect your role rather than a channel restriction. See YouTube channel permissions.
What to do after you find the cause
- Eligibility or verification issue: follow the instructions YouTube shows in Studio to complete channel verification or setup.
- Policy or copyright notice: read the specific notice, address the identified issue, and use its appeal route if appropriate. Avoid repeating content or conduct that could trigger another enforcement action.
- Health Indicator error: follow the timestamped error’s instructions and check the affected broadcast’s setup. The error message is more useful than treating it as proof of an account restriction.
- Daily creation limit: wait for the 24-hour limit to reset before attempting to create more streams.
- Permission problem: ask a channel owner or manager to review your role and provide the access needed for the task.
Do not try to evade an active restriction by streaming through another channel. YouTube says this is circumvention and can put accounts at risk of termination.
