For an incoming feed that is already live, create a live stream instead. These are different workflows: prerecorded playout sends uploaded files; live streaming relays an encoder or other live source.
“Private channel” can be misleading: the relevant control is the visibility of the individual YouTube live stream, not a channel-wide privacy switch. Choose the stream’s visibility in YouTube’s live controls, then make sure the intended viewers can access it.

Choose the right continuous-playback workflow
| What you have | Castr workflow | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| A finished video or playlist | Create a pre-recorded stream and set it to scheduled playback or looping. | Castr documents infinite playlist looping for Premium and higher; confirm the current plan includes the loop mode you need. Castr’s prerecorded-video guide |
| A feed being produced continuously by an encoder or other live source | Create a live stream and connect the incoming source. | Castr says 24/7 duration depends on an active subscription and sufficient streaming bandwidth. This is Castr’s documented condition, not a guarantee of uninterrupted output. Castr Help Center, “Livestream 24/7 With Castr” (December 1, 2022) |
The steps below focus on uploaded prerecorded video. If you need to relay a live feed, use Castr’s live-stream controls for the source and playback rather than uploading a file. Castr Help Center, “How to Start a Live Stream in Castr” (August 4, 2026)

Set up prerecorded playback to YouTube
- Create the prerecorded broadcast. In Castr, start a pre-recorded stream. Upload the video file. If you have multiple files, make a playlist and arrange the intended playback order. Castr describes this as cloud playout: Castr broadcasts the uploaded media, rather than requiring your computer to replay and re-stream it.
- Choose a schedule or loop mode. Set a scheduled start if you want the broadcast to begin at a particular time. For continuous playback, choose the available loop option. Castr documents infinite playlist looping on Premium and higher; check your account’s current plan details before setting up an always-on playlist. Castr’s prerecorded-video guide
- Add YouTube as a destination. Castr documents two connection paths: an API flow, where you sign in, select a channel, choose an event, and create the destination; or a manual server-and-stream-key flow using YouTube’s streaming server and key. Dashboard labels may change, so follow the current destination prompts. In the manual key workflow, Castr says to edit the description in YouTube Studio. Castr Help Center, “How to Connect YouTube with Castr” (May 19, 2023)
- Set stream visibility in YouTube. In YouTube’s live controls, select the visibility setting that matches your audience. Google’s production guide warns that an unlisted URL can become public if someone shares the direct link. Treat unlisted as link-restricted, not confidential or password-protected. For a private stream, verify the current YouTube Help rules and that each intended viewer can access it; the cited Google production guides do not establish the latest viewer-access policy. Google’s live production guide
- Start or schedule, then verify both sides. Check Castr’s source and destination states and YouTube’s live dashboard to confirm the broadcast is reaching the intended stream. For an encoder-based live source, Castr recommends turning destinations off while the source is offline, then re-enabling them when the encoder feed is live, to help avoid connection issues on a later broadcast. Castr Help Center, “How to Connect YouTube with Castr”
What YouTube “private” means for this setup
The visibility setting applies to the specific stream or video, not to the whole channel. Google’s production guide states that an unlisted stream’s direct URL can be shared onward, so anyone who receives a forwarded link may be able to reach it. Do not describe an unlisted stream as secure or password-protected. Because the cited Google documents are production guides rather than current YouTube Help policy pages, check YouTube Help for current private-viewer requirements before inviting viewers.

Keep a stream key secret: it is a credential used to send the broadcast to YouTube. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots. If you use Castr’s API connection instead, you do not need to assume the manual stream-key route is the only option. Castr’s YouTube connection instructions
Continuous playback checks and common problems
- The playlist stops instead of looping indefinitely: Check whether the selected loop mode is available on your current Castr plan. Castr’s guide identifies infinite playlist looping as a Premium-and-higher feature; confirm current plan details before depending on it. Castr’s prerecorded-video guide
- The live source is not reaching YouTube: For an encoder feed, check that the source is live and the destination is enabled. Castr recommends enabling destinations after the encoder feed is live if they had been turned off while the source was offline. Castr Help Center
- A scheduled or continuous broadcast is not available for the expected duration: Check that the subscription remains active and that sufficient streaming bandwidth is available. Castr’s 24/7 guidance makes both conditions explicit; it does not promise uninterrupted service. Castr Help Center
- Intended viewers cannot open the stream: Recheck the stream’s visibility and the viewers’ access under YouTube’s current rules. Do not solve access confusion by calling an unlisted link private: Google’s production guide notes that the link can be shared onward. Google’s live production guide
