An addon manager’s outdated or “corrupt” warning is a clue to investigate—not proof that the addon is broken.
1. Confirm your WoW flavor and patch
Start with the client you actually intend to play. Retail and the different Classic flavors can use different addon releases; choosing the wrong flavor in a manager can make an addon appear incompatible even when a suitable release exists for another flavor.

Check the game’s current patch in the client or official World of Warcraft content update notes. The notes page is Blizzard’s official location for content updates and hotfixes; its current patch number is not reproduced here.

In CurseForge, select the flavor that matches your game before reviewing installed addons. The app can show installed addons and whether updates are available. Also make sure the manager is pointed at the intended WoW installation; CurseForge’s FAQ gives _retail_ as an example game directory and explains selecting a game instance. CurseForge explains: “A warning does not necessarily mean that the addon it is shown for will not work in-game.” Its Classic guidance says some addons may function while marked corrupt or outdated, while others really do need an update. Treat the warning as a prompt to check the release and test the addon, not as a pass/fail result.
3. Inspect the addon’s own listing
Open the addon’s project page and inspect the latest file, its release date, supported flavor or patch label, and change log where available. Look for a build intended for your exact game flavor and current patch—not merely the newest version number.

Addon listings can provide useful metadata without proving that every feature works in a live game. For example, the WoWInterface APIInterface listing displays a compatibility label, version, update date, and change log. Its displayed “War Within Patch (11.2.7)” label and 10-07-25 update date describe that listing when retrieved; they are not a statement of the current WoW patch or a general compatibility guarantee.
4. Update the right release—or wait
If a release is listed for your flavor and patch, install it through the manager or the addon host’s normal download process. CurseForge supports updating one addon at a time or using Update All. After updating, confirm the installed version shown by the manager.

If CurseForge says the addon belongs to another flavor, its FAQ recommends uninstalling it, selecting the desired flavor, then searching for and installing the addon from that flavor’s results. This avoids carrying over a release intended for a different client.
After a major update, addon authors may publish at different times. CurseForge’s guidance for Classic expansion launches, updated 18 August 2025, describes these staggered releases and advises waiting for an author’s upload when no compatible version is available. You can cautiously try the current version in the meantime, but it may not work as expected; make that choice knowingly rather than treating the warning as assurance.

5. Check actual behavior in-game
A compatibility label establishes what the listing claims about a release; it does not validate every feature during your session. After installing a matching release, launch the correct WoW client and check whether the addon loads and its functions you rely on behave as expected. If it loads but misbehaves, that is a functional problem even if the listing says it is compatible.
