- Find the relevant issue in the advisory. Open Zimbra Security Advisories and locate the CVE or issue you are assessing. Compare your server’s release and patch level with the fixed release shown for that specific entry.
- Check affected components and conditions. Read the full advisory entry rather than relying on its fixed-version number alone. Some issues apply only to a particular component or configuration. For example, Zimbra’s 10.1.20 release notes describe an SNMP monitoring-component command-injection issue that applies when SNMP notifications are enabled: ZCS 10.1.20 release notes.
- Account for support status. The advisory says it references supported releases and warns that older, unsupported releases may have the same vulnerabilities. If your version is unsupported, its absence from the table is not evidence that it is safe; plan an upgrade or migration to a supported release.
The advisory’s entries are issue-specific, not a blanket statement that every installation is exposed to every listed vulnerability. For example, it assigns CVE-2026-49975 a CVSS score of 7.5 and lists 10.1.18 as the fix. That score describes the vulnerability’s severity; it does not tell you how many servers are exposed.

Which Zimbra release contains the fix?
Use the fixed release named for the particular issue, not simply the newest version number as a substitute for checking the advisory. Zimbra’s release notes identify 10.1.21, released September 24, 2026, as the latest release in the official materials cited here. Its security fixes include stored cross-site scripting in the Classic and Modern Web Clients, WebDAV MFA token validation, password recovery, OpenJDK, NGINX, and OnlyOffice integration. - Follow the vendor’s release-specific patch instructions. Zimbra’s advisory gives general update guidance using
yum updateorapt updateand links to the vendor download page. These examples are not a complete sequence for every server. Use the “Patch Installation” procedure linked from the 10.1.21 release notes or the notes for your target release. - Verify the result. After completing the vendor procedure, check the server’s installed release and patch level again and compare them with the fixed-release entry for the issue.
The cited guidance does not establish universal prerequisites, backup steps, expected service interruption, or cross-version upgrade steps for every deployment. Confirm those details for your environment in the applicable vendor instructions before proceeding.
Check operating-system support as well as Zimbra support
An upgrade plan must account for both the Zimbra release and the host operating system. The 10.1.21 notes say Ubuntu 18.04 support will be deprecated beginning with the next release, while Ubuntu 24.04 LTS support became available with 10.1.17. Check the release notes for your intended target and confirm that your platform and upgrade path are supported.
