Yes—Forza Horizon 6 is announced for PlayStation 5. As of Playground Games’ October 8, 2026 announcement, the PS5 version is still upcoming: Standard and Deluxe Editions are scheduled for January 26, 2027, and Premium Edition early access is scheduled to begin January 21. You do not need a PS5 Pro based on the announced compatibility information; the announcement says the trailer was captured on a base PS5.
How to check PS5 compatibility
For a console game, the key compatibility check is whether the PS5 is a supported platform—not whether your console meets PC-style processor, memory, or graphics-card requirements. Playground Games has confirmed a PS5 edition of Forza Horizon 6. That means the game is planned to run on PS5 hardware; it does not mean the PS5 edition is available to play before its release date.

If your question is simply “Can I play Forza Horizon 6 on PS5?”, the answer has two parts: yes, PS5 is an announced platform, and not yet as of October 9, 2026, because the PS5 release is scheduled for January 2027. You do not need to run a compatibility checker, compare console components with a PC spec sheet, or buy a different PlayStation model based on the announcement. The key check is the platform and edition you are considering, followed by its release timing.

- Confirm the platform. Check that the announced edition is for PlayStation 5. Playground Games’ October 8, 2026 announcement confirms that platform.
- Check the release date for your edition. Standard and Deluxe Editions are scheduled for January 26, 2027. Premium Edition early access is scheduled for January 21, 2027.
- Decide whether you need a disc or digital copy. Playground Games says a disc edition will be available at supporting retailers. That announcement does not confirm any particular retailer’s stock or price.
- Wait for the PS5 release to play. Before the applicable date, having a PS5 does not make the PS5 version playable. The announced dates are schedules, not evidence that the game has already launched.
There is no PS5 hardware test or upgrade requirement in the announcement. The practical answer is that the PS5 is supported, but the PS5 edition must be released before you can play it on that console. This is a platform-availability answer, not a claim that an independent tester has benchmarked the game on every PS5 model or in every scene.

PS5 release schedule and announced modes
| Edition or mode | What Playground Games announced |
|---|---|
| Standard Edition | Scheduled for January 26, 2027 |
| Deluxe Edition | Scheduled for January 26, 2027 |
| Premium Edition early access | Scheduled to begin January 21, 2027 |
| Quality mode | 4K at 30 FPS |
| Performance mode | 60 FPS; the announcement does not specify a resolution for this mode |
The dates answer a common follow-up: “When does Forza Horizon 6 come out on PS5?” The current announced schedule is January 26, 2027 for Standard and Deluxe, with Premium Edition early access beginning January 21. Early access is a specific edition timing detail; it does not change the scheduled Standard and Deluxe release date. If you are deciding when you can start playing, use the date for the edition you actually plan to buy rather than the earliest date in the table.
The 4K/30 FPS and 60 FPS figures are modes announced by Playground Games, not independent benchmark results. The company says the trailer was captured on a base PS5. This supports the conclusion that a PS5 Pro is not an announced requirement, but it is not a full technical specification or a guarantee of performance in every gameplay situation.
Quality and Performance are two advertised display-mode choices, not separate versions of the game or separate hardware compatibility tiers. The announced Quality mode targets 4K at 30 frames per second. The announced Performance mode specifies 60 frames per second, but Playground Games did not state its resolution in the announcement. So it would be inaccurate to describe Performance mode as 4K based on that information alone, or to treat the modes as independent test results. The announcement establishes the published options, not detailed graphics settings, measured frame-rate consistency, or a complete list of technical requirements.

It specifically says the trailer was captured on a base PS5 and publishes PS5 mode information. That is useful evidence that the base console is part of the announced PS5 plan. It should not be stretched into claims about unannounced Pro-only enhancements or a guarantee that every future gameplay condition will perform identically.
Why Xbox and PC release dates can be confusing
Forza Horizon 6 launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access beginning May 15. Those earlier dates apply to those platforms; they do not mean the PS5 edition is already playable. The PS5 schedule was updated by Playground Games’ October 8 announcement: an earlier FAQ had described the PS5 release only as coming later in 2026, while the newer announcement gives the January 2027 dates.
This platform distinction matters if you have seen a launch notice, gameplay coverage, or an Xbox/PC store listing. The game’s earlier availability on Xbox Series X|S and PC is not evidence that a PS5 copy is released or that an Xbox or PC license works on PlayStation. On October 9, 2026, the accurate status is that Xbox and PC have the earlier release, while the PS5 edition remains scheduled for a later date.
Playground Games’ October 8, 2026 announcement supersedes the older general timing description for the PS5 edition. The earlier FAQ’s “later in 2026” language should not be used as the current PS5 schedule after the newer date announcement. If timing is the deciding factor, compare the platform-specific dates: Xbox Series X|S and PC launched May 19, 2026, while PS5 Standard and Deluxe are scheduled for January 26, 2027. Premium early access dates also differ: May 15, 2026 on the earlier Xbox/PC release, and January 21, 2027 for the PS5 Premium Edition.
What cross-play and cross-save mean for PS5 owners
Playground Games says the PS5 edition will support cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. It also says community-created content will be cross-platform. These features concern playing with others, carrying save progress, and sharing community content across platforms; they do not establish that a purchase on Xbox or Steam also grants a PS5 copy. The announcement does not say that one platform’s license transfers to another.
In practical terms, cross-platform play means the announced PS5 version is intended to participate in play across the named platforms. Cross-save concerns save progress across those versions, and cross-platform community content concerns content created by the community. These are useful compatibility details, but they answer different questions from “Can my PS5 run it?” They do not move the PS5 release date forward, change the stated modes, or remove the need for access to the PS5 edition.
Do not treat cross-save as cross-buy. A save or play feature shared between platforms is not the same thing as a single purchase unlocking the game everywhere. Playground Games’ announcement confirms cross-platform play and cross-save with Xbox and Steam, but it does not say that an Xbox or Steam purchase includes a PS5 license, or that a PS5 purchase includes another platform’s copy. Check the platform named on the actual product listing and make a separate purchase decision for the platform where you intend to play.
What to check before buying
- Platform listing: make sure the product is specifically the PS5 edition if you intend to play on a PlayStation 5.
- Edition timing: Premium early access is scheduled for January 21, 2027; Standard and Deluxe are scheduled for January 26, 2027.
- Physical availability: a PS5 disc edition is planned for supporting retailers, but availability, stock, and price vary and were not established in the announcement.
- Cross-platform expectations: cross-play and cross-save are announced, but do not assume they include a second copy of the game.
If you prefer a physical copy, Playground Games says a disc edition will be available at supporting retailers. That establishes that a disc version is planned; it does not establish which shops will carry it, when a specific shop will have stock, what it will cost, or whether a particular online listing is official or currently available. Look for the PS5 platform label and verify the seller’s listing details when purchases open. No specific retailer, price, or Amazon listing has been confirmed by the announcement.

It does not provide enough information here to compare edition prices, list every edition’s included content, establish regional availability, or say whether one edition is a better value. The useful decision points supported by the announcement are the PS5 platform, edition release timing, announced display modes, physical-disc plan, and cross-platform features. Avoid assuming that a particular edition includes a platform license or feature unless the product details say so.

You also do not need to buy a PS5 Pro, a new PS5, or an accessory to meet a stated compatibility requirement: no such upgrade or accessory requirement is identified in the announcement. That is different from saying an accessory cannot be used or that all unannounced features are ruled out. It simply means the announced compatibility answer does not require one.
In short, no special console check is needed beyond confirming that you have a PS5 and are looking at the PS5 edition. The important constraint is timing: the announced PS5 release is in January 2027, while Xbox Series X|S and PC versions arrived earlier.
