Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck the specification for your exact phone model and sales region to find which satellite navigation systems it supports. For a real-time check, an Android GNSS status app can show which constellation categories the phone is reporting during a test—but a short test cannot prove that a system is unsupported. Also check dual-band or frequency support separately: multiple GNSS systems do not automatically mean multiple frequencies.
What “multiple GNSS systems” means
GNSS is the umbrella term for satellite navigation. GPS is one system; others include Russia’s GLONASS, Europe’s Galileo, China’s BeiDou, Japan’s QZSS and India’s NavIC, also called IRNSS. A phone that lists two or more named systems supports multiple constellations.

The names matter: a specification that says only “GPS” or “GNSS” does not establish which other constellations the handset supports. Look for an explicit list.

- Identify the phone precisely. Check its About screen, packaging or purchase records for the full model identifier and generation. Note the sales region or market variant as well.
- Open the manufacturer’s technical specifications. Find the entry labeled Location, GPS or GNSS and record each named system, such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS or NavIC/IRNSS.
- Check whether the entry applies to your region. Specifications can differ between market variants. Google’s Pixel hardware specifications, for example, separate US and rest-of-world GNSS lists; match the entry to your model and region rather than relying on a listing for a different variant.
- Check frequency support separately. If you want to know whether the phone supports dual-band or multi-frequency GNSS, look for those terms or for specific signal-band details. A constellation list alone does not answer that question.
For a comparison between phones, check the named constellations, whether the list is for the exact market variant, whether dual-band or multi-frequency support is stated, and whether third-party tools can access live GNSS reporting. More constellation names alone do not establish a particular accuracy improvement.

Use a live GNSS status check on Android
Android’s GnssStatus API reports the GNSS engine’s current state and identifies the constellation category for each reported satellite. Its categories include GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, BeiDou, Galileo, IRNSS, SBAS and unknown. An Android GNSS status or diagnostic app that displays these categories can show what the receiver reports at that moment.
- Install a reputable GNSS status or diagnostic app that displays satellite constellation categories.
- Go outdoors to a location with a clear view of the sky, then allow the receiver time to report satellites.
- Check which named constellation categories appear in the app. One or more categories appearing is evidence that the phone reported satellites in those categories during that test.
A live display is not a complete inventory of the phone’s hardware capability. A constellation missing during a brief test is inconclusive: the phone may not be receiving or reporting satellites from it under those conditions. Use the exact model’s official specification to establish the supported list.

Do not confuse constellations with frequencies
Constellation support and frequency support describe different things. A phone may list several systems without claiming dual-band operation. Google’s Pixel specifications list dual-band GNSS separately from the constellation information, and Android’s GnssMeasurement API treats constellation and signal or code-type details as distinct measurement information. The API describes types Android can represent; it does not show that every phone supports every listed signal.

The Android 12 Compatibility Definition Document (2021) says a device declaring the GNSS feature must simultaneously track and report at least 8 satellites from one constellation. It should be able to track at least 24 satellites from multiple constellations. “Should” is a recommendation, not a guarantee that every Android phone supports every constellation. These are Android 12 compatibility requirements and recommendations, not a substitute for checking a particular phone’s specifications.

What to check on an iPhone
There is no universal iPhone settings path or model-independent live constellation display established here. Check the Apple technical specifications for the exact iPhone model; do not assume that another generation’s system list or a particular iOS menu applies to yours.
