Check the specifications or support page for your phone’s exact model and regional version. Search for “IR blaster,” “infrared remote control,” or “consumer IR.” On Android, a diagnostic can also check the consumer-IR hardware feature and call ConsumerIrManager.hasIrEmitter(). A dark opening or a preinstalled remote app is only a clue—not proof of an emitter.
1. Find your exact phone model
Open the phone’s About or device information screen and note its full model name. If available, also note the model number and sales region. Use those details to find the matching manufacturer specifications, support page, or manual; a similarly named phone or a listing for another region may describe different hardware.

2. Check the manufacturer’s specifications
Search the official material for “IR blaster,” “infrared remote control,” or “consumer IR.” Manufacturer documentation is the clearest consumer-level check for whether a particular model is configured with infrared hardware. ZTE’s support page likewise advises checking the official website to determine whether a phone is configured with infrared: ZTE: Supports infrared remote control.

Example: REDMI Note 14 5G
Xiaomi lists an IR blaster among the components of the REDMI Note 14 5G and says it can control IR-enabled appliances such as TVs, air conditioners, and sound systems. 3. For Android diagnostics, check the hardware feature
Android provides a technical check for consumer infrared hardware. The system feature is PackageManager.FEATURE_CONSUMER_IR, and ConsumerIrManager.hasIrEmitter() checks whether the device has an infrared emitter. Android’s API reference describes the method as: “Check whether the device has an infrared emitter.” See the ConsumerIrManager API reference and Android’s Sensors Overview.
This is primarily a developer or diagnostic route, not a universal settings-screen check. A developer can query the system feature and API; an ordinary user can ask the manufacturer or support agent, or use a diagnostic app that reports the Android hardware feature. Treat the result as a device-level check and the manufacturer’s documentation as the reference for the exact model configuration.

4. Don’t rely on the opening or remote app alone
- A dark opening: Its appearance does not establish that it is an IR emitter or that the emitter works.
- A remote-control app: Software can provide remote functions through other means, but it cannot add an infrared emitter to a phone that lacks the hardware.
Traditional infrared control requires an IR emitter or a compatible gateway. The manufacturer specification or Android hardware check is stronger evidence than appearance or app presence.

First decide whether you need to control a traditional IR appliance, such as a TV or air conditioner. If so, possible alternatives include a compatible IR gateway or a phone-connected transmitter.
