Short answer: You cannot get a reliable yes-or-no compatibility verdict for METRO 2039 yet. As of 19 October 2026, the official Steam listing shows only a 64-bit processor and operating system as a baseline; its CPU, graphics, memory, storage and detailed Windows fields are blank. Deep Silver says more technology and specification information will be released before launch.

METRO 2039 is scheduled for 4 February 2027. You can still prepare an accurate comparison by recording your PC’s hardware now and checking the official minimum and recommended rows when they are published.

What is confirmed about METRO 2039 on PC

METRO 2039 is the next mainline Metro game from 4A Games, published by Deep Silver. The announced release date is 4 February 2027. The PC version is planned for simultaneous release on Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

Deep Silver says 4A Games is using its proprietary 4A Engine. The publisher also describes this as the first Metro game built with ray tracing in mind. That establishes a technical direction, not a published hardware threshold: no particular GeForce RTX, Radeon RX or other graphics-card model has been named as a requirement.

Deep Silver’s launch announcement says that more information about the technology, specifications and modes for every edition will be shared in the months before release. Until those figures appear, an exact “minimum PC” list would be speculation.

Why a yes-or-no answer is not possible yet

A proper compatibility check needs at least six pieces of information: the operating-system version, CPU, system RAM, graphics processor, graphics memory (VRAM) and free storage. A game can fail one of those checks even when the other five look sufficient. Performance targets also matter. A minimum row may be intended for a lower preset and resolution, while a recommended row may target a higher preset, 60 frames per second or a specific ray-tracing mode.

The current Steam page does not provide those comparison values for METRO 2039. Its 64-bit requirement only rules out a 32-bit operating system or processor; it does not tell you whether a particular laptop or desktop can render the game. The absence of a listed GPU or RAM figure is not permission to reuse an older Metro specification.

How to record your PC’s hardware in Windows

Make a simple inventory before the official table appears. Record the exact model names rather than broad descriptions such as “Core i7” or “gaming laptop.” Different generations and power limits can perform very differently.

1. Record the processor, RAM and Windows edition

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Open System, then About. Copy the entries for Processor, Installed RAM and System type. The system type should identify a 64-bit operating system on a 64-bit processor.
  3. In the same page, note the Windows specifications: edition, version and OS build. Keep this information with your hardware notes because a future requirement may distinguish Windows editions or versions.

For a second view, press Windows + R, enter msinfo32, and press Enter. The System Information window shows the processor, installed physical memory and operating-system details in one place. Use the model string exactly as Windows reports it.

2. Identify the graphics processor and VRAM

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Task Manager.
  2. Choose Performance, then select each GPU entry. Record the graphics-card name and the Dedicated GPU memory value. If your computer has integrated and discrete graphics, record both.
  3. Press Windows + R, enter dxdiag, and press Enter. On the Display (or Render) tabs, record the adapter name, display memory and Feature Levels.

“GPU memory” can be displayed in more than one way. Dedicated VRAM is the most useful figure for a requirements comparison; shared system memory is borrowed from RAM and should not be treated as an equivalent amount of dedicated VRAM. If Windows lists more than one adapter, make sure the game will use the high-performance GPU rather than an integrated chip.

3. Check the DirectX feature level

In dxdiag, the System tab shows the installed DirectX version, while each Display or Render tab lists supported feature levels. Save both values. A future METRO 2039 requirements row may state a DirectX version or feature level, and that comparison is separate from the amount of VRAM installed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Measure available storage on the intended drive

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC.
  2. Right-click the drive where you would install the game and choose Properties.
  3. Record the Free space, not just the drive’s total capacity. If you have several drives, note the free space on each possible installation drive.

The final listing may specify an installation size and may require additional temporary space for unpacking or updates. Leave a margin instead of planning to fill a drive to its last few gigabytes.

5. Check whether the GPU has hardware ray tracing

Ray tracing is a confirmed design priority for METRO 2039, so record whether your graphics card supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The manufacturer’s specifications, the graphics driver control panel or a current hardware-information utility can identify this capability. Do not turn that check into a model-number prediction: Deep Silver has not stated which GPU families, ray-tracing tiers or performance levels will be required.

On a desktop, also record whether the monitor resolution you normally use is 1080p, 1440p or 4K. On a laptop, note the exact laptop model and its GPU power configuration. Two laptops with the same GPU name can have different power limits and cooling, so the model designation matters when performance targets are eventually published.

6. Save the information in one worksheet

A text file or spreadsheet prevents details from being lost when the requirements arrive. Use a layout like this:

Field Your value Why it matters
Windows edition, version and build Record exactly as shown in Settings Must meet the stated operating-system row
System type 32-bit or 64-bit The current Steam baseline is 64-bit
CPU model Full model name Compared with the minimum and recommended CPU rows
Installed RAM GB shown by Windows Compared with system-memory requirements
GPU model Every adapter listed Compared with the graphics row and any preset target
Dedicated VRAM GB shown for the discrete GPU May be listed separately from the GPU model
DirectX feature levels Values shown in dxdiag Checked if a DirectX or feature-level requirement is published
Free space GB on the intended installation drive Compared with the stated install and temporary-space needs
Ray-tracing support Supported or not supported Relevant because the game is being built with ray tracing in mind

How to compare your PC when the official table appears

Use the publisher’s or storefront’s own minimum and recommended rows, not a third-party “Can I run it?” label that hides the underlying values. Compare each field independently.

  1. Operating system: Confirm that your Windows edition and version meet the stated row. A 64-bit system alone may not satisfy a later version requirement.
  2. CPU: Compare the complete processor model. Clock speed by itself is not a reliable substitute for the named model or equivalent.
  3. RAM: Compare installed system memory with the requirement, then leave enough available for Windows and background applications.
  4. GPU and VRAM: Match both the graphics-card class and the stated VRAM amount. Meeting one while missing the other is not a full match.
  5. DirectX and ray tracing: Check any listed feature level and whether the required preset or mode depends on hardware ray tracing.
  6. Storage: Compare free space on the actual installation drive with the listed size and any additional space requirement.
  7. Performance target: If the publisher states a resolution, preset or frame-rate target, compare your hardware against that specific target rather than treating “recommended” as a universal 60-fps promise.

Mark every row as meets, below or unclear. “Unclear” is the correct result when an equivalent CPU or GPU has not been identified; it is safer than assuming that a similar-sounding model qualifies.

What meeting minimum means

A minimum specification normally identifies the lowest supported configuration, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or image quality. If your PC meets only minimum values, plan for a lower graphics preset, reduced resolution or disabled optional effects unless the official table says otherwise. Do not promise yourself a frame-rate result that the publisher has not stated or that independent testing has not measured.

What recommended means

Recommended values are meaningful only with their accompanying target. If the listing says “recommended for 1440p” or gives a frame-rate range, use that context. If it supplies several presets or modes, compare your hardware with the preset you actually intend to use instead of collapsing all rows into one pass/fail answer.

How to handle an equivalent-model note

Publishers often write “or equivalent” beside a CPU or GPU. Look for a comparison based on generation and performance class, not a single specification such as boost frequency. If the official page does not explain the equivalence, treat the result as uncertain and wait for reputable testing rather than declaring compatibility.

What ray tracing means for this check

Deep Silver’s statement that METRO 2039 is built with ray tracing in mind signals that lighting and reflections may be designed around the feature more deeply than in an older, optional implementation. It does not establish an RTX-only rule, a minimum ray-tracing model or a required amount of RT performance.

When the final requirements arrive, look for three separate details:

  • Which GPU families or performance classes are named for ray-traced presets.
  • Whether the stated resolution and frame-rate target changes when ray tracing is enabled.

If your GPU lacks hardware ray tracing, do not assume the game will fail to launch; wait for the published rows to see whether a non-ray-traced mode is supported. Conversely, a card that technically supports ray tracing may still fall short of a stated performance target.

Laptop-specific checks

A laptop can satisfy a model-number comparison and still perform differently from a desktop card with a similar name. Record the complete laptop model, GPU power configuration when available, installed RAM, display resolution and whether the machine is running on AC power. Check that the discrete GPU is selected for the game’s executable and that the laptop has adequate cooling room.

These are preparation steps, not a substitute for the final METRO 2039 requirements. The official table should determine whether a laptop is supported; its thermal behavior determines how consistently it can sustain the stated target.

Metro Exodus figures are historical context only

The previous mainline PC release, Metro Exodus, launched on 14 February 2019. Its old Steam minimum is useful for seeing how a requirements table is formatted, but it is not a prediction for METRO 2039.

Metro Exodus minimum (Steam, 2019) Published value
Operating system Windows 7, 8 or 10
Processor Intel Core i5-4440 or equivalent
System memory 8 GB RAM
Graphics GeForce GTX 670, GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon HD 7870
DirectX Version 11
Storage 59 GB available space

The later Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition requires an Nvidia RTX- or AMD RX-class graphics card capable of hardware ray tracing. That requirement belongs to the Enhanced Edition, not automatically to METRO 2039. The 8 GB RAM and 59 GB storage figures above are 2019 predecessor values and should not be copied into a METRO 2039 checklist.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using Metro Exodus as a forecast: A newer engine and a game designed with ray tracing in mind can have very different requirements.
  • Reading the 64-bit baseline as a full specification: It confirms architecture, not CPU speed, GPU capability, RAM or storage.
  • Checking only the graphics-card name: VRAM, feature level and the intended preset can be separate requirements.
  • Counting shared memory as dedicated VRAM: Windows may show both; record the dedicated amount separately.
  • Assuming “ray tracing” means one exact brand or model: No such threshold has been announced for METRO 2039.
  • Ignoring free space: Total drive capacity is irrelevant if the installation drive lacks enough free space.
  • Expecting a frame-rate guarantee from minimum or recommended labels: A target resolution, preset and frame rate must be stated to support that conclusion.
  • Relying on an old screenshot: Requirements and driver guidance can change during development, so verify the live listing close to launch.

When and where to recheck

Check the official Steam page and Deep Silver’s METRO 2039 announcements again as the 4 February 2027 release approaches. The useful update will be a complete minimum and recommended table, ideally with presets, resolution or frame-rate targets, storage details, DirectX information and any ray-tracing notes.

Keep your worksheet unchanged unless your hardware or Windows installation changes. When the table is published, enter the official values beside your own and resolve every “unclear” row before deciding whether to buy or upgrade. If a requirement is revised after launch, use the newest official version and note the date so an earlier comparison is not mistaken for a current one.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Confirm that your system is 64-bit.
  2. Record the exact CPU, installed RAM, GPU, dedicated VRAM, Windows version, DirectX feature levels and free storage.
  3. Record whether the GPU has hardware ray-tracing support.
  4. Wait for the official METRO 2039 minimum and recommended rows.
  5. Compare operating system, CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, storage, DirectX and ray-tracing requirements separately.
  6. Use the stated preset, resolution and frame-rate target when one is provided.
  7. Recheck the live requirements near release because development changes can affect the final table.

Until that specification table is published, the most accurate answer is limited: METRO 2039 is planned for PC on 4 February 2027, but no complete PC requirements have been officially disclosed.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
