Use the NSDL Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) as a second, consolidated check. Your broker’s holdings screen is useful for trading status, but it can update later than the depository ledger.
For a bonus issue, look for the credited quantity and, where applicable, a temporary ISIN before trading approval. For a split, check that the share count has increased and that the post-split ISIN appears. Eligibility is determined by the company’s record-date holder list, not by when a broker app happens to refresh.

What proves that the shares were credited?
Corporate-action credit is established by the records maintained by your depository participant (DP), the issuer or its RTA. A broker application is a display layer over those records and may lag behind them. Check the evidence in this order:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- DP transaction statement: It should show a credit entry with the company name, quantity, transaction date and ISIN.
- Issuer or RTA allotment advice: This confirms the entitlement processed for your account. NSDL says the quantity in the advice and the account statement should match.
- NSDL CAS: CAS consolidates holdings and transactions across your NSDL and CDSL demat accounts and includes corporate-action entries such as bonus transactions.
- Broker holdings page: Use it last to see whether the credited securities are displayed and tradable. It is not the primary ledger.
NSDL’s e-Guide for Demat Account Holders states that an entitlement is credited by the company directly to the investor’s NSDL depository account. In practical terms, a missing broker tile does not by itself prove that the company failed to credit your shares.

Understand the record date
The record date is the company’s cutoff for identifying shareholders entitled to a corporate benefit. NSDL defines it as the date used to consider the list of shareholders for distribution of a corporate benefit. The company’s announcement normally also states an ex-date, which is the date from which the security trades without the entitlement.
Your purchase must have settled into the demat account in time for the applicable cutoff. A contract note or an order-history entry alone is not enough if the securities had not reached your demat account by the relevant settlement and record-date process.
Read the issuer announcement
Find the company’s exchange or investor-relations announcement and record these details:

- Entitlement ratio or split factor.
- Ex-date and record date.
- Existing and resulting ISINs, if stated.
- Any date on which the new securities are expected to be listed or admitted for trading.
Do not infer eligibility from the date shown in a mobile app. If the dates are unclear, ask the issuer’s RTA or your DP to confirm which holder list was used.
Step-by-step: verify a bonus-share credit
1. Calculate the expected entitlement
Apply the announced ratio to the number of eligible shares held on the record date. For an illustrative 1:1 bonus, an eligible holding of 200 shares would produce 200 additional shares. The illustration is only a calculation method; use the ratio and eligible quantity in the issuer’s announcement for your event.
Check whether the company’s terms address fractional entitlements or any special treatment. If your own calculation differs from the announcement, preserve both figures and ask the RTA which holding quantity it used.

2. Obtain the DP transaction statement
Sign in to your broker or DP back office and download the transaction statement covering the record date through the latest processing date. Some DPs provide a daily statement; others provide a custom date range. Select the demat account, not merely the trading-account ledger.
Search the statement for the company name, its ISIN, or a description such as “bonus,” “corporate action,” or “allotment.” A valid entry should identify the credit quantity and date. Save the original PDF or downloaded file so that the entry can be compared with later records.
3. Match the allotment advice
The issuer or RTA may send an allotment advice by email or post, or make it available through an investor portal. Compare its company name, folio or demat details, quantity, date and ISIN with the DP statement. NSDL’s stated expectation is that the quantity in the advice and account statement should match.
If the advice says 200 shares but the statement says 100, do not average the figures or rely on the broker display. Treat the mismatch as an exception requiring the RTA and DP to reconcile their records.
4. Cross-check NSDL CAS
Download the NSDL CAS for the month containing the corporate action. CAS combines holdings and transactions across NSDL and CDSL accounts linked to the same PAN, subject to the account-linking details maintained by the depositories. Look for the bonus transaction and the resulting holding.
CAS is a cross-check, not a substitute for retaining the DP statement and allotment advice. If a transaction appears in the DP statement but not in CAS, confirm that you downloaded the correct statement period and that all of your demat accounts are linked to the same CAS profile.

5. Check the broker display and ISIN status
After the ledger evidence is present, open the broker’s holdings or portfolio page. The credited shares may not appear immediately. Broker guidance, including published timing guidance from Zerodha, notes that a credit can take a working day to show on its trading platform and that bonus shares can initially sit under a temporary ISIN until trading approval.
A temporary-ISIN entry can therefore prove that the shares are credited even when the security cannot yet be sold through the normal order screen. Check the broker’s corporate-action or holdings-detail view for both the temporary and final ISIN, rather than searching only by the company’s trading symbol.
Step-by-step: verify a stock-split credit
1. Understand what changed
A split divides each existing share into a larger number of shares while reducing the face value per share. It does not create an economic bonus in the way a bonus issue does; the number of units and the face-value structure change according to the announced split factor.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
For an illustrative 1:5 split, 100 old shares would become 500 shares after the corporate action is processed. Use the issuer’s stated factor and the eligible holding on the record date for your own calculation.
2. Compare pre- and post-split quantities
Open the transaction statement and identify the debit, extinguishment or adjustment of the old security and the credit of the new security. The post-split line should show the increased quantity and the resulting ISIN. Depending on the DP’s format, the old holding may be closed and the new holding added, or the statement may show a corporate-action adjustment.
Record both ISINs when they are shown. The new ISIN is important when a broker search still returns the old symbol or when the listing of the split security is pending.

3. Check the broker after the ledger
Broker guidance says split shares may take up to two working days from the ex-date or record date to become visible on the trading platform. This is an indicative operational window, not a guarantee for every issuer or DP. If the DP statement already shows the new quantity, wait for the broker’s display to synchronize before treating the account as missing shares.
Bonus shares and split shares: what to look for
| Check | Bonus issue | Stock split |
|---|---|---|
| Eligibility cutoff | The company’s record date holder list determines who receives additional shares. | The company’s record date holder list determines whose existing shares are subdivided. |
| Entitlement | Additional shares are allotted in the declared ratio, such as 1:1 or 1:2. | Each existing share is converted into a larger number of shares according to the split factor. |
| Statement entry | Look for a corporate-action credit showing the bonus quantity. | Look for the old quantity being adjusted and the new, larger quantity credited. |
| ISIN handling | A temporary ISIN may be used until trading approval; a final ISIN can follow. | The resulting split security can have a new ISIN that must be checked in the statement. |
| Broker visibility | The credit may be visible in the DP ledger before it appears as tradable in the broker app. | The new quantity may take up to about two working days to appear in the broker display, depending on processing. |
| Primary proof | Allotment advice plus DP transaction statement, cross-checked with CAS. | DP transaction statement showing the post-split quantity and resulting ISIN, cross-checked with CAS. |
How long should you wait?
Timing has two separate parts: the depository credit and the broker’s display or trading enablement. SEBI has a circular titled “Enabling T+2 trading of Bonus shares where T is the record date.” The T+2 framework concerns when bonus shares can be traded under that process; it does not mean every broker screen refreshes at the same moment.
Broker-level guidance describes bonus processing as taking about T+2 days and split visibility as taking up to two working days from the ex-date or record date. These are operational indications that can vary with the issuer, RTA, depository and the approval of the new security. Count only the business days specified by the relevant notice, and check the actual transaction date in your statement.
If the credit is already in the DP statement, the most likely explanation for a missing broker entry is a display delay, temporary ISIN or pending trading approval. If no credit appears in the DP statement after the stated processing window, move to reconciliation rather than repeatedly refreshing the app.

The purchase was not eligible
The trade may have been executed after the ex-date, or the securities may not have settled by the cutoff used for the record-date list. Check the contract note, settlement date and the issuer announcement together.
The depository record is present but the app is stale
Broker applications can update after the depository. Download the statement directly from the DP and compare its transaction date with the last refresh time shown in the broker interface.
Best Value
The shares are under a temporary ISIN
Bonus securities can be credited under a temporary ISIN before the exchange or other authority approves trading under the final security details. Search the holdings page by ISIN and inspect inactive or non-tradable positions.
The split quantity is waiting for processing
A split requires the old security and the resulting security to be processed. During that transition, the app may show the old quantity, no quantity, or an adjustment line. The DP statement’s resulting ISIN and quantity are the decisive records.
Account details do not match
An incorrect DP ID, client ID, name, PAN linkage or account number can prevent the expected credit from reaching the intended account. Compare the details in the issuer or RTA notice with the demat account details held by your DP.
A practical reconciliation worksheet
Before contacting support, write down one row for the corporate action and fill it from original records. This prevents a support conversation from relying on screenshots that omit the ISIN or transaction date.
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Company | Exact issuer name as shown in the announcement and statement. |
| Corporate action | Bonus or split, including the announced ratio or factor. |
| Ex-date | Date stated in the issuer or exchange notice. |
| Record date | Cutoff date used for the eligible holder list. |
| Old holding | Quantity shown before the action or on the record-date statement. |
| Expected change | Your calculated entitlement or post-split quantity. |
| Statement entry | Credit or adjustment date, quantity, description and ISIN. |
| Allotment advice | Quantity, date and ISIN stated by the issuer or RTA. |
| CAS entry | Whether the same corporate action appears in NSDL CAS. |
| Broker display | Quantity, ISIN and whether the position is tradable. |
Keep the statement and advice in their original form. A cropped mobile screenshot may hide the account identifier, transaction date or ISIN that support staff need to investigate the discrepancy.
What to do when the credit is missing
- Recheck eligibility: Confirm the ex-date, record date, settlement and the quantity held at the cutoff.
- Verify account identifiers: Check DP ID, client ID, PAN linkage, registered name and the demat account number against the issuer or RTA records.
- Download current records: Obtain the latest DP transaction statement and NSDL CAS, and retain the allotment advice.
- Contact the broker or DP: Ask whether the entry is pending, held under a temporary ISIN, or waiting for a corporate-action file or trading approval.
- Contact the issuer’s RTA: If the DP has no credit record or reports an entitlement mismatch, send the RTA the company name, ISIN, record date, expected entitlement and account details requested by its process.
- Attach evidence: Include the allotment advice and transaction statement, with sensitive information protected only where the support channel permits redaction.
NSDL specifically emphasizes accurate client-ID and DP details for corporate actions. State the discrepancy numerically—for example, “expected 200, statement shows 0” or “advice shows 200, statement shows 100”—instead of writing only that the shares are missing.
How to tell whether a credit is tradable
Credit and tradability are different statuses. A depository transaction confirms ownership in the account, while exchange and broker systems must recognize the security before a normal sell order can be accepted. Bonus shares may therefore appear under a temporary ISIN and carry a non-tradable status until approval.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Checking only the portfolio value and assuming a missing line means no credit.
- Comparing the broker’s quantity with the expected entitlement before checking whether the statement uses a temporary ISIN.
- Using the trade date instead of the settlement and record-date eligibility information.
- Assuming a T+2 reference is a universal promise that every app will update at the same hour.
- Sending support a screenshot without the company name, ISIN, quantity and transaction date.
- Ignoring a small difference caused by the announced ratio or an issuer-defined fractional-entitlement rule.
The cleanest audit trail is a three-way match: issuer or RTA advice, DP transaction statement and CAS. The broker display then answers the separate question of whether the position is visible and ready for trading.
