Check MagSafe compatibility and wireless charging as two separate things. Look for an explicit MagSafe-compatible claim for your exact iPhone model, then see whether a MagSafe charger attaches and sits centered with the case on. Separately, place the cased phone on a Qi-certified charger and look for the charging icon.
MagSafe and wireless charging are different checks
MagSafe combines wireless charging with magnets that help align a compatible charger on supported iPhone-and-case combinations. Apple says supported MagSafe chargers attach to a compatible iPhone or MagSafe case. A MagSafe charger can also charge other Qi-compatible iPhones without magnetic alignment, so seeing a charging icon does not prove that a case supports MagSafe.

Apple says iPhone 8 and later can use a Qi-certified charger. MagSafe support depends on the iPhone model and case, so check Apple’s current compatibility information for your phone before treating a failed magnetic snap as evidence that the case is defective.

How to test a case
- Check the box or manufacturer listing. Look for an explicit MagSafe-compatible statement that names your exact iPhone model. A circle or ring printed on a case is not, by itself, proof of compatibility.
- Check magnetic attachment. With the case on a MagSafe-supported iPhone, bring a MagSafe charger to the back of the phone. A firm snap and centered position are practical signs that the case allows magnetic attachment and alignment. Apple says that, on supported models, MagSafe chargers and battery packs snap to the back of iPhone or its MagSafe case or sleeve.
- Check charging separately. Connect a Qi-certified charger and place the cased iPhone in the charger’s recommended position. Apple says the charging icon should appear when charging starts.
- Retry without the case if charging does not start. If the phone charges without the case but not with it, the case or something inside it may be interfering. Apple cautions that cases or other objects between the phone and charger can reduce performance.
How to interpret the results

Check cards and other items in the case
Cards or other objects between the iPhone and charger can affect charging. Apple advises removing sensitive cards or ensuring they are not between the phone and charger. When troubleshooting, test with the case empty and retry without the case if needed.

What the charging result cannot tell you
A charging icon confirms that charging has started in that particular arrangement; it does not verify magnetic alignment, guarantee a specific charging rate, or prove compatibility with every iPhone model. Apple’s wireless-charging guidance says many Qi-certified chargers charge iPhone at up to 7.5 watts, but that figure is a charger performance detail—not a way to identify MagSafe support.
