AMD now calls FSR 4 FSR Upscaling, and its current compatibility information names Radeon RX 7000- and RX 9000-series graphics cards; AMD’s FSR Upscaling 4.1.1 documentation specifies discrete GPUs. The cited AMD documentation does not establish support for integrated APU graphics. Even compatible hardware needs a game that implements the feature.
How do I check whether FSR 4 is supported?
- Find the exact graphics processor. Check your system’s graphics settings or device information, or look up the device specifications. A Ryzen processor or handheld model name does not by itself identify whether its graphics are eligible.
- Determine whether the graphics are integrated or discrete. AMD GPUOpen’s FSR Upscaling 4.1.1 compatibility wording specifies Radeon RX 7000- and RX 9000-series discrete GPUs. Integrated graphics in a Ryzen APU are not listed in that compatibility line. AMD GPUOpen: FSR Upscaling.
- Compare the model’s family with AMD’s current list. AMD lists RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics cards for ML-based FSR Upscaling. It says RX 6000 support is planned for 2027; planned support is not current availability. See AMD FSR Technologies.
- Check the specific game. Hardware compatibility alone does not make FSR Upscaling available in every game. Check AMD’s supported-games list and the game’s own graphics settings.
- If it is a handheld, follow its maker’s driver guidance. AMD’s standard Adrenalin release notes say the software does not include support for handheld gaming devices. Use the handheld manufacturer’s driver and update instructions instead. AMD Adrenalin 26.3.1 release notes.
Does my AMD APU support FSR 4?
The APU name alone cannot confirm support. The available AMD compatibility wording for FSR Upscaling 4.1.1 specifies discrete RX 7000- and RX 9000-series GPUs, and AMD’s consumer technology page lists those graphics-card families for ML-based FSR Upscaling. Neither source establishes eligibility for integrated Ryzen graphics. If your system uses only APU integrated graphics, the cited AMD documentation does not confirm that it supports FSR Upscaling.

Does my handheld support FSR 4?
Check the graphics processor inside the handheld rather than relying on its Ryzen Z1, Z2, or other APU branding. AMD says FSR versions are available in select games, require integration by game developers, and are supported on select AMD products; that general statement does not confirm FSR Upscaling support for a particular handheld APU. AMD’s Ryzen Z1 and Z2 handheld processor page provides context, but the maker’s device-specific driver support also matters.
AMD’s standard Adrenalin software does not include support for handheld gaming devices, according to its release notes. That does not by itself establish that a handheld cannot use the feature: follow the device maker’s driver and update path, then check the game’s settings for the feature.

Why do some pages say FSR 4 is RX 9000-only?
AMD’s RX 9000 launch announcement described FSR 4 as exclusive to RX 9000 cards and discussed upgrading supported games with FSR 3.1 integration. That was the launch-era scope, not the complete current list: AMD’s current FSR page names RX 7000 as well as RX 9000 for ML-based FSR Upscaling. See the AMD RX 9000 launch announcement.
The name has also changed. AMD’s current FAQ says FSR 4 was renamed FSR Upscaling to distinguish it from the other features that make up FSR “Redstone.” Support for FSR Upscaling does not automatically mean support for every other Redstone feature; AMD lists different hardware coverage by feature on its FSR Technologies page.

What to compare when choosing between systems
- The exact graphics processor, and whether it is a discrete graphics card or integrated graphics.
- Whether it belongs to a family AMD currently lists for ML-based FSR Upscaling.
- Whether the game you want to play implements the feature.
- For a handheld, whether its manufacturer provides the relevant drivers and updates.
If you want an upgrade and need a documented hardware route, AMD lists Radeon RX 9000-series discrete cards among the supported families. A card such as the RX 9070 XT is one example; an upgrade is not necessary if your system already meets the relevant hardware, game, and software requirements.
