Verify the case and notice details by navigating independently to returnsettlement.com; do not trust a message just because it uses Amazon branding or supplies a convincing link.
Is the Amazon returns settlement email real?
The settlement is real. Its official website identifies the case as In re: Amazon Return Policy Litigation, Case No. 2:23-cv-01372-JNW, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The site says it is authorized by that court. This confirms the case exists—not that any particular message claiming to be about it came from the court, Amazon, or the settlement administrator.

The lawsuit concerns allegations about certain Amazon return policies and practices. Amazon denies the allegations and wrongdoing, and the court has not determined liability. The settlement remained subject to final approval when the site was checked on October 4, 2026.
How to check whether a notice matches the official settlement
- Go to the site independently. Type returnsettlement.com into your browser or find it independently. Do not begin with a link in an unsolicited message.
- Match the case details. Check that the notice refers to In re: Amazon Return Policy Litigation, Case No. 2:23-cv-01372-JNW, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
- Compare the dates and claim instructions. As of October 4, 2026, the site lists December 1, 2026 as the deadline to submit a claim, exclusion, or objection, and March 16, 2027 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time for the final approval hearing. Confirm the current dates and status directly on the site before acting; they may change.
- Check the payment category described. The site says Settlement Subclass A members receive payment automatically, while Settlement Subclass B members must submit an eligible claim form. It also says no class member payments will be made unless the court approves the settlement and it becomes final. Do not assume everyone must file a claim—or that a payment is guaranteed.
- Use contact details from the official site. The site identifies Angeion Group as the settlement site provider and lists the administrator’s mailing address as 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Check the live site for current contact information rather than relying on details copied from an unsolicited message.
How to check an email that claims to be from Amazon
A settlement administrator’s notice and an email sent by Amazon are different things. If a message claims to be from Amazon, open Amazon’s app or website yourself and inspect Message Center. Amazon says Message Center contains all email communications sent by Amazon and that an email absent from it was not sent by Amazon. That check applies to a purported Amazon email; a settlement administrator’s notice may not be an Amazon email, so absence from Message Center alone does not show that every settlement notice is fraudulent.

- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
Amazon also advises checking the sender address for misspellings or substituted characters and examining where links lead. Avoid clicking a link to test it: navigate to Amazon or the settlement site independently instead. A familiar display name or logo is not proof of who sent a message.
Warning signs that call for extra caution
- A demand for money to receive a settlement payment. Stop and verify through an independently reached official channel. Amazon’s scam guidance describes fake refund offers and impersonation through email, calls, social media, and text.
- A request for sensitive credentials or payment details. Do not provide passwords, verification codes, or financial information in response to an unexpected message. Amazon says it will not request payment information for products or services over the phone.
- Pressure to act immediately or use only the message’s contact details. Urgency is not proof of fraud, but it is a reason to pause. Use contact information on the official settlement site or Amazon’s own app or website—not a phone number, reply address, or support link supplied only in the message.
- Details that conflict with the official site. Check the case name, number, deadlines, administrator information, and instructions against the current settlement website before responding.
There is no established sender-domain allowlist here for settlement-administrator emails. Do not treat a particular email address as verified based on guesswork; use the official site’s current notice and contact information.

Do not confuse this case with the Amazon Prime refund program
The Amazon Return Policy Litigation is separate from the FTC/Amazon Prime settlement refund program. The FTC says Amazon administers Prime settlement refunds, the FTC is not contacting people about them, and no one from Amazon will ask for money to obtain a refund. A notice about the Return Policy Litigation should be checked against its own case website, not assumed to concern the Prime refund.
