If you can still access the email address linked to your PlayStation account, start with Sony’s self-service recovery: open Account Management, select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account, enter your sign-in ID, then use the secure link Sony emails you. If the linked email is inaccessible or an attacker changed your account details, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant instead. These steps reflect Sony’s US support guidance reviewed October 4, 2026; support options may differ by region.
Choose the recovery route that matches your situation
The key questions are whether you can open the linked email, whether you have a working passkey or 2-step verification method, and whether someone changed your account details. Sony’s account recovery guide distinguishes self-service recovery from cases that need support.

Recover access when you still control the linked email
- Go to Sony’s official account recovery page and open Account Management.
- Select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account.
- Enter the sign-in ID—the email address associated with the account—and follow the instructions.
- Check that inbox for Sony’s secure recovery link and use it to continue. Sony says the email may take a few minutes to arrive.
Navigate to Sony’s site directly rather than following links in unsolicited messages. If the email does not arrive, check the address you entered and your inbox’s spam or junk folder before trying again.

If you no longer recognize the sign-in ID, online ID, or password because someone changed it, use Sony’s Online Assistant. Do not keep requesting a reset to an email address you cannot access or that may have been replaced. Sony’s recovery guidance directs users with unrecognized changes to support; it does not promise that the email-based reset will work in this situation.

If you receive a suspicious message about an account change, secure the email account first by changing its password with your email provider. Sony advises continuing through its recovery guide if you can secure the email; if you cannot change the sign-in method, contact PlayStation Support. See Sony’s guidance for compromised accounts and unauthorized charges.
If you lost your email, passkey, or 2-step verification method
You cannot open the linked email
If you cannot access the verification or password-reset email—or cannot remember the sign-in email—Sony directs you to the Online Assistant. If you suspect the email account itself was compromised, secure it with the email provider as a separate priority.
You cannot use your passkey
Sony says that if another device has the same verification method registered, you can sign in on that device and register a new passkey. If you have no other usable device, contact the Online Assistant.

You no longer have your 2-step verification phone

Review charges before treating them as fraud
Check your PlayStation transaction history and see whether the charge is from a recurring subscription, another account using the same payment method, or a family purchase. Sony has separate refund and compromised-account guidance. Whether a charge qualifies for a refund depends on the current regional policy, so do not assume reimbursement or a particular deadline.
If a console was stolen
Sony advises signing out on all devices, deactivating consoles, and considering removing all payment methods. If you cannot access the account or sign-in details were changed, contact support through Sony’s compromised-account guidance.

Secure the account after you regain access
Sony warns that “If someone signs in to your account, they can change your sign-in information and lock you out.” The statement appears in Sony Interactive Entertainment / PlayStation Support’s How to use security best practices on PlayStation.

- Secure the linked email account with a unique password as well, since access to that inbox can affect account recovery.
