How to Check Whether a Power Adapter Is Compatible With Your HomeView

Check the HomeView model first, then match the adapter’s USB-C output profile—not just its wattage—to the requirement in this table. Tabletop Apple HomeView needs at least 30W and 15V at 2A or higher. HomeView (Wall Mounted) needs at least 20W and 9V at 2.22A or higher.

HomeView model Minimum adapter rating Required output profile Connection
Tabletop Apple HomeView 30W 15V at 2A or higher USB-C cable and USB-C adapter
HomeView (Wall Mounted) 20W 9V at 2.22A or higher USB-C cable and USB-C adapter, or a compatible powered mount

Why identifying the model comes first

HomeView has separate tabletop and wall-mounted versions, and Apple specifies a different power profile for each. Treating them as interchangeable can leave a unit underpowered even when the charger’s headline wattage looks sufficient.

Turn the device over, check its packaging or order record, and inspect the mounting hardware. A free-standing unit on a desk is the tabletop model. A unit attached to a third-party wall mount is the wall-mounted model. If you are unsure, do not choose an adapter until you have confirmed which version you own.

How to read the adapter label

Find the USB-C output information

Look on the adapter body, on its specifications panel, or on the manufacturer’s technical sheet. You need an output entry that identifies the USB-C port and lists voltage and current combinations. A label that only says “fast charging” or shows a single wattage number does not establish compatibility.

Check wattage, voltage and current together

Wattage is calculated from voltage multiplied by current, but adapters can offer several output combinations. A high-wattage adapter may still omit the voltage/current profile HomeView needs. Match the complete profile in the table above, with the required voltage and current available from the USB-C port you will use.

If an adapter has several USB-C ports, read the limits for the specific port. Some multi-port adapters reduce output when another device is connected. Test HomeView with the other devices unplugged first, and confirm that the port still offers the required profile under that condition.

Confirm that the cable is USB-C

The adapter and cable must both use USB-C connections suitable for the HomeView model. Do not assume that a USB-C-shaped plug on one end makes every cable interchangeable; check both ends and the cable’s condition. If the cable is detachable, use a known-compatible USB-C cable while diagnosing a power problem.

Step-by-step compatibility check

  1. Identify the HomeView version. Decide whether it is the tabletop or wall-mounted model before evaluating any charger.
  2. Read the adapter label. Record the USB-C port’s wattage and every listed voltage/current combination. Use the output for the port that will connect to HomeView.
  3. Compare the complete profile. The tabletop unit must meet the tabletop row in the table; the wall-mounted unit must meet the wall-mounted row. A wattage number by itself is not enough.
  4. Inspect the cable. Look for bent connectors, cuts, crushed sections, contamination or a loose fit. Replace a suspect cable with another compatible USB-C cable rather than assuming the adapter is defective.
  5. Inspect the ports and adapter. Apple recommends checking the adapter, cable and HomeView port. Clean accessible contacts with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth; do not put liquid or metal objects into a port.
  6. Test a different outlet. Reseat the adapter and cable, then try another wall outlet. This separates a loose connection or outlet issue from an adapter mismatch.
  7. Try a second known-compatible adapter and cable. Use equipment that meets the same model-specific profile. If HomeView works with the replacement, the original adapter or cable is the likely cause.

Can a MacBook or iPad charger power HomeView?

Possibly, but the product name is not the test. A charger sold for a MacBook or iPad can be used only when its USB-C output label includes the profile required by your HomeView model and its cable is suitable. Check the label rather than relying on the charger’s advertised device family, appearance or maximum wattage.

For a multi-port computer charger, connect HomeView to the USB-C port that provides the needed profile and temporarily disconnect other loads. If the label does not clearly show the required voltage and current, choose an adapter whose specifications do.

What “Power Adapter Not Supported” means

When HomeView cannot obtain its required power profile, the display can show “Power Adapter Not Supported” together with a lightning bolt and a yellow exclamation triangle. The message can result from an adapter that lacks the required output, a damaged or unsuitable cable, a poor connection, or a problem in a wall mount’s power path.

Use this troubleshooting order

  1. Disconnect and firmly reconnect the adapter at the outlet, the adapter and HomeView (or at the mount’s USB-C connection).
  2. Try another wall outlet.
  3. Try another USB-C cable that is known to be compatible.
  4. Try another adapter that meets the profile for the specific HomeView model.
  5. If the unit is wall-mounted, perform the direct-connection test described in the next section.

Stop using an adapter or cable that is hot, cracked, frayed, smells burnt or has a damaged connector. Replace it with equipment in good condition instead of repeatedly reseating it.

Wall-mounted HomeView: the mount is part of the power system

Apple states: “HomeView (Wall Mounted) requires a compatible third-party mount and power solution for operation, sold separately.” The adapter, cable and mount therefore need to be checked as separate components. A wall-mounted package may not include any of them.

USB-C wall mount

Apple’s store lists the Schneider Home Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector for Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted) as designed for this model. Its included USB-C cable is 2 metres long. It requires a USB-C adapter meeting the wall-mounted profile, sold separately, and supports continuous power from 20W to 60W. Schneider also describes the mount as compatible with Apple HomeView and expects the user to provide the USB-C adapter.

Before installation, verify cable reach, the adapter’s location and whether the cable will remain visible. A mount can be mechanically secure while still failing to deliver the required electrical profile if its cable, connector or adapter is unsuitable.

AC-wired mount

An AC-wired Power Mount connects to household power rather than using a loose USB-C adapter at the wall. Because it involves mains wiring, follow local electrical rules and use a qualified electrician or professional installer where required. Confirm that the installer is using a mount and power solution specifically compatible with HomeView.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

PoE-wired mount

A PoE-wired Power Mount carries power and networking over Ethernet. This can reduce the number of visible cables and may be useful where an Ethernet run already exists, but it requires compatible PoE infrastructure and correct installation. Confirm the network equipment and mount specifications before choosing this route.

Mount path Power method Cable and installation considerations Networking
USB-C mount Separate USB-C adapter Use the supplied 2-metre cable with a suitable adapter; adapter is sold separately Not provided by the power cable
AC-wired mount Household AC wiring Plan for in-wall or electrical installation and follow local code Not indicated
PoE-wired mount Power over Ethernet Requires an Ethernet run and compatible PoE equipment Power and networking share the Ethernet connection

How to tell an adapter fault from a mount fault

A direct test bypasses the wall mount. Remove the wall-mounted HomeView from its mount, then connect it directly with a USB-C cable and adapter that meet the wall-mounted profile.

  1. Power off or disconnect the mount according to its instructions.
  2. Remove HomeView carefully without pulling on the mount cable.
  3. Connect HomeView directly to the known-compatible USB-C adapter and cable.
  4. Observe whether the warning disappears and the device powers normally.

If HomeView works directly but shows the warning when returned to the mount, the adapter and device are less likely to be the cause. Apple advises contacting the mount manufacturer or the professional installer in that situation. If the warning remains during the direct test, continue testing the adapter, cable and outlet before arranging mount service.

Choosing between otherwise compatible adapters

Once an adapter meets the electrical profile, compare the details that affect everyday use and support:

  • Model compatibility: confirm that the listing or documentation covers your tabletop or wall-mounted HomeView version.
  • Port-specific output: check the USB-C port you will actually use, especially on multi-port units.
  • Cable inclusion and length: note whether a cable is included and whether it reaches the device or mount without tension. The Schneider USB-C wall connector includes a 2-metre cable; its adapter is separate.
  • Safety certification: look for clearly identified certification marks and documentation appropriate to your country. Do not treat an unverified marketplace claim as proof of compliance.
  • Thermal design and condition: avoid visibly damaged, modified or unusually hot equipment.
  • Return policy: choose a retailer that allows a return if the adapter does not provide the specified profile or produces the HomeView warning.

Do not buy solely because an adapter advertises more watts. A lower-rated adapter with the correct profile can be suitable, while a higher-rated one that omits the required profile may not be.

Common mistakes and their fixes

Matching only the wattage

Symptom: The adapter’s wattage exceeds the minimum, but HomeView still reports an unsupported adapter.

Fix: Re-read the USB-C output table and verify voltage and current, not only the maximum wattage.

Using the wrong HomeView row

Symptom: A charger works on one HomeView version but not another.

Blaming the adapter before checking the cable

Symptom: The warning appears intermittently when the cable is moved.

Fix: Inspect both connectors and substitute a known-compatible USB-C cable. A damaged cable can interrupt power even when the adapter is correct.

Leaving another device on a multi-port charger

Symptom: HomeView works alone but fails when another device is connected.

Fix: Disconnect the other device, check the port’s shared-output specification and retest. Use a port and adapter configuration that maintains the required profile.

Assuming the mount includes power hardware

Symptom: A wall-mounted installation has a mount but no working power source.

Fix: Inventory the mount, USB-C cable, adapter and any AC or PoE hardware separately. Wall-mounted HomeView can require these components to be purchased or installed independently.

A practical decision checklist

  • Have you identified tabletop versus wall-mounted HomeView?
  • Does the USB-C adapter label show the required voltage/current profile for that model?
  • Does the adapter provide at least the model’s minimum wattage from the port in use?
  • Is the USB-C cable undamaged, firmly seated and long enough for the setup?
  • Have you tested another outlet, cable and compatible adapter?
  • If wall-mounted, have you tested HomeView directly outside the mount?
  • If direct power works, have you contacted the mount manufacturer or installer?

Bottom line

Compatibility is a model-specific USB-C output match. Start with the HomeView version, verify the adapter’s voltage and current profile on its label, then check the cable, outlet and mount path. For a wall installation, a direct connection outside the mount is the fastest way to determine whether the fault is in the adapter and cable or in the mount and its installation.
