How to Check Whether a PC Game Uses Denuvo DRM

Use the exact game’s store page first, then its matching publisher license and a current secondary reference. A missing Steam disclosure does not prove a game is Denuvo-free.

To check whether a specific PC game uses Denuvo Anti-Tamper, start with that game’s storefront page and look for an explicit third-party DRM disclosure. On Steam, community guidance says the page may show “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-Tamper.” If the label is missing, check the game’s publisher EULA or license agreement and then corroborate with a current reference such as PCGamingWiki. No single missing listing proves the game is Denuvo-free.

Check the game’s exact storefront page

  1. Open the store page for the PC version you are considering. Confirm it is the right game and storefront; different versions or releases may have different information.

  2. On Steam, inspect the page for a third-party DRM notice. Community guidance describes a right-hand-side label reading “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-Tamper.” Page layout can change, and this label is a useful clue rather than a guaranteed, exhaustive listing. Steam community discussion and an older Steam discussion describe the disclosure; the older thread dates from 2019.

An explicit, game-specific storefront disclosure naming Denuvo Anti-Tamper is strong evidence that the listed version uses it. An absent notice is inconclusive: community discussion reports that third-party software is not always disclosed.

Search the publisher’s EULA or license agreement

Look for the agreement tied to the same title and search within it for “Denuvo” and “Denuvo Anti-Tamper.” A publisher’s legal text can make the technology explicit. For example, the reviewed SEGA agreement states that a product may be protected by Denuvo Anti-Tamper and describes possible installation, activation, online-connection, and retained-file conditions. Those are terms in that specific agreement, not guarantees about every Denuvo-protected game. SEGA EULA on Steam

Check that the agreement applies to the game, platform or storefront, region, and version you mean. A general DRM reference or a mention in an agreement for another release is not proof about the copy you plan to play.

Cross-check secondary references carefully

A community curator report or a reference such as PCGamingWiki can help when the store page and EULA are unclear. Treat these as corroboration: community reports may be delayed or incomplete. If sources conflict, weigh them by authority, recency, scope, and specificity:

  • Authority: A current, game-specific publisher statement or storefront disclosure generally carries more weight than a community post.
  • Recency: Prefer information about the current page or build over an older report.
  • Scope: Make sure the source refers to the same game, platform or storefront, region, and version.
  • Specificity: “Denuvo Anti-Tamper” is more informative than a general reference to DRM or Steam.

Distinguish Denuvo from Steam’s own DRM

Steam DRM and Denuvo Anti-Tamper are not interchangeable names for the same protection. Valve’s Steamworks documentation says, “The Steam DRM wrapper by itself is not an anti-piracy solution,” and explains that the wrapper can be combined with other DRM or anti-tampering systems. Therefore, evidence that a game uses Steam or Steam’s wrapper does not establish whether it also uses Denuvo. Steamworks: Steam DRM

Why file verification will not identify Denuvo

Steam’s “Verify integrity of game files” feature checks whether the installed game files are installed correctly; Valve’s instructions do not describe it as a DRM detector. Use it to troubleshoot game-file problems, not to determine whether a title uses Denuvo. Steam Support: Verify integrity of game files

A practical decision rule

  • Store page explicitly names Denuvo Anti-Tamper: Treat that as a positive indication for the listed version.
  • Store page is silent: Check the matching publisher agreement and a current secondary reference; silence alone does not establish absence.
  • Sources disagree or are vague: Prefer the most current, game-specific publisher or storefront wording, and regard the status as unconfirmed if no source clearly applies to your version.
