Which Valheim 1.0 mod is a documented starting point?

The Nexus Mods page for SmartContainers (Valheim 1.0 fork) explicitly lists Valheim 1.0 (Unity 6) and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350 or newer. The page identifies the mod as client-side and recommends testing with a backup world before using heavy inventory routing in multiplayer.
That makes it a useful example of what to look for in a listing: a stated 1.0 target, named dependency, installation scope, and a save-related caution. The compatibility and requirements above are the author’s claims; they have not been independently tested here.
How to choose and verify other mods

It includes categories such as Tools, Utility, Building, Crafting, and Deep North Update, as well as a pinned BepInExPack Valheim listing. Catalog presence or category placement does not establish support for a particular game build.
Some older mods have community-made compatibility bridges. For example, the author page for Valheim10Compatibility describes a bridge for Valheim 1.0.x built against 1.0.7 and says the author verified it through 1.0.12. The page recommends BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350 or newer and says to remove the bridge once the original mod has a proper 1.0 build. This is an author-provided workaround, not official guidance or a universal fix; confirm that its stated versions match your installation before relying on it.
A cautious installation sequence
- Back up the world and characters you intend to use, especially before testing a mod that changes inventory or other save-sensitive systems.
- Choose a manager and install the required loader according to the manager’s instructions and the mod’s dependency list. PC Gamer’s guide recommends getting BepInEx set up before adding other mods; some mods also require Jotunn.
- Install one mod at a time. Read its 1.0 compatibility statement, dependencies, and client/server instructions before adding it to a profile.
- Launch and check the setup before adding another mod or opening the world you want to protect. If the game fails to start or the mod does not behave as its author describes, remove the latest addition and re-check its version and dependencies.
