LastPass and Keeper both cover the basics of saving and filling passwords, but their plan limits differ. LastPass Free restricts access to one device type, while Keeper’s UK personal and family page lists unlimited devices and sync. For a household, LastPass Families is described as including six Premium accounts; Keeper Family lists five users and 10 GB of secure file storage. Those features do not establish which service is the better value: the available pages do not provide usable current prices, and security claims should be read with care.
What each password manager includes
Both services offer the core password-manager workflow: save credentials, generate passwords, and fill them in. LastPass describes these functions on its personal product page. Keeper’s UK consumer page lists password storage, secure sharing, and device sync.

Which is better for your devices?
Choose based on the access limit, not the brand name
If you need to use a free password manager across both a phone and a computer, LastPass Free’s one-device-type limit is the key constraint in the available plan description. Keeper’s UK page lists unlimited devices and sync for Personal, but that is a paid-plan description and regional availability may differ.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
For either service, verify that the exact plan in your region covers the devices and browsers you use. Do not assume that a feature listed on a regional plan page applies unchanged to every market or tier.
Which is better for a family?
The listed account counts differ: LastPass Families includes six Premium accounts according to its plan page, while Keeper Family lists five users and includes 10 GB of secure file storage. This makes the household’s user count and need for shared file storage more useful decision points than the plan names alone.

- Requires 3 "AAA" batteries (included)
- Unit auto-locks for 30 minutes after 5 consecutive incorrect PINs
The account counts and included storage do not settle value. Current comparable prices, renewal terms, and add-on charges are not established by the cited page content, so compare the live offers for your region before subscribing.
How do their multifactor options compare?
LastPass’s plan page lists passkey management and multifactor authentication features, and indicates that hardware MFA is unavailable on Premium but available on Families and business plans. Check the current plan chart before relying on a particular method.
Rank #3
Keeper’s older company-authored explainer lists several two-factor methods, including authenticator apps, FIDO2 WebAuthn devices, and other options. That article is not proof that every listed method is available on every current consumer plan. Confirm the current plan’s options before buying a hardware key or relying on a particular sign-in method.

Keeper says it generates encryption keys on the user’s device and encrypts records including URLs, attachments, TOTP codes, payment information, and custom fields. This describes Keeper’s stated architecture; it is not an independent audit conclusion. Keeper’s explanation of its security model

- DEVICE & OS COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. Works seamlessly with supported services like Google and Microsoft accounts, and major password managers. See the full compatibility list at "Works With YubiKey"
- DURABLE & RELIABLE: Resistant to tampering, water, and crushing. No batteries or network connectivity required, offering dependable authentication without any downtime. Securely manufactured in USA & Sweden
- Yubico Authenticator App - Fingerprint enrollment, passkey management and PIN configuration available via the app app - Upgrade to YubiKey 5 Series to generate one-time-passwords (OTP) via Yubico Authenticator and for advanced compatibility (OATH, PIV)
For the 2022 LastPass incident, the source available here is Keeper, a competing vendor. Its account says LastPass disclosed theft of customer vault data during an August 2022 incident and characterizes passwords as encrypted while URLs and other metadata were not. Because this is a competitor’s account, it should not be treated as independent corroboration of the incident mechanics. Keeper’s account of the LastPass incident

Keeper also says it patched a browser-extension bug reported in 2017 within 24 hours of confirming it and reported no associated customer-data loss. That is Keeper’s own account, not an independent security evaluation. Keeper’s security-history explainer
These vendor statements are not enough to declare either service categorically safer. Compare the plan features you need and review each provider’s current security documentation rather than treating a feature list or a competitor-authored incident summary as a definitive security ranking.
Quick Recap
How to make the choice
- Consider LastPass Free if its one-device-type limit fits how you use a password manager and you want to start with its free tier.
- Consider Keeper Personal if the unlimited devices and sync listed on its UK page match your needs and the current plan in your region includes them.
- Compare family plans by household fit: six Premium accounts for LastPass Families versus five users and 10 GB secure file storage for Keeper Family, as described on their respective pages.
- Confirm price and MFA availability directly for the region and tier you intend to buy. The cited pages do not establish a reliable current US price comparison or exact hardware-key compatibility across both services.
