Check Konami’s official regional Forbidden & Limited List page or the Yu-Gi-Oh! Neuron Forbidden & Limited List, then verify the displayed status and effective date for your format and event. Count copies across the Main, Extra, and Side Deck: Forbidden cards allow zero copies, Limited cards allow one total, and Semi-Limited cards allow two total. Because the list can change during an announcement weekend, recheck the live database immediately before buying cards or submitting a deck list.
What the Forbidden & Limited List controls
The Forbidden & Limited List is the rule that determines how many copies of a card with the same name you may register for an official Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game tournament. Konami describes it as identifying cards whose use in official TCG tournaments is prohibited or limited by the number of copies allowed in a Deck. It is not merely a recommendation for competitive players: a deck that exceeds the stated limit can be rejected at registration or require changes before you play.

The list applies to the entire tournament deck, not only the cards you normally draw. Your Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck are counted together for each card name. A copy in the Extra Deck or Side Deck still uses one of your permitted copies.

Forbidden
A Forbidden card may not appear in the Main, Extra, or Side Deck. The legal total is zero copies. If a card becomes Forbidden, remove every copy from all three deck areas before entering an event.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Limited
A Limited card may appear once in total across the Main, Extra, and Side Deck. You cannot play one copy in the Main Deck and another in the Side Deck; that is two copies and is illegal.
Semi-Limited
A Semi-Limited card may appear twice in total across all three deck areas. Three copies split between the Main and Side Deck still exceed the limit.
Unlimited
If the official database does not mark a card as Forbidden, Limited, or Semi-Limited for the format you are checking, it is unrestricted by this list. That does not override other tournament rules, card-text restrictions, or event-specific policies.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFirst identify the format, region, and event
Do not start by searching a card name. First establish which ruleset governs the deck. The cited Konami announcements concern the TCG Advanced Format. A list for that format should not be assumed to govern every Yu-Gi-Oh! product, digital mode, casual rule set, or Organized Play region.
TCG Advanced Format
Use the TCG Advanced Format list when you are building for the regular English-language Trading Card Game tournament environment covered by Konami’s regional announcements. Confirm that the page you opened identifies the TCG and shows its effective or status date.
Named regional or championship event
An event organizer’s published deck-construction rules control when they add restrictions, use a special format, or specify a list that differs from the ordinary Advanced Format. Read the event’s player guide and registration instructions. If those instructions conflict with a generic deck-building article, follow the event organizer’s rule and ask a judge before submitting.

Other Yu-Gi-Oh! formats
Do not apply a TCG Advanced Format result automatically to the OCG, a local alternate format, a Historic or Time Wizard-style event, or a digital game. Digital modes can use their own banlist and update schedule. Select the exact format in the relevant official source, and record that choice with your deck list.

Which source should you trust?
Use primary Konami information for the final legality check. Secondary deck databases can help you find ideas, but they may cache an old list, mix regions, or count only the Main Deck.
| Source | Best use | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Konami regional Forbidden & Limited List page | Authoritative published list for the applicable TCG region and format | Format name, geography, effective date, and all three deck areas |
| Yu-Gi-Oh! Neuron Forbidden & Limited List | Searching an individual card and checking its current category | Displayed status date, category, and whether the result is for the TCG ruleset you need |
| Event organizer’s player guide | Rules for a specific Regional, Championship, or special tournament | Any event-specific list, submission deadline, and judge instructions |
| Deck-list or community website | Finding published deck ideas and spotting cards to investigate | Never treat its legality label as final until it matches a live Konami source |
The Neuron page’s purpose is especially useful when auditing a list: search the exact card name and record the category shown there. If a community deck list and Neuron disagree, stop and use the official result or ask the tournament judge.
Step-by-step legality check
- Name the play environment. Write down “TCG Advanced Format,” the specific event, and the country or region. If the event uses a special format, write that instead.
- Open an official source. Use Konami’s regional Forbidden & Limited List page or the Yu-Gi-Oh! Neuron Forbidden & Limited List. Locate the status or effective date before reviewing individual cards.
- Freeze the proposed deck list. Export or copy every card name and quantity in the Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck. Include cards you are considering for sideboarding, not only the cards in your starting build.
- Search each exact name. Enter each card in the official database. Watch for similar names, alternate printings, and cards whose names contain the same words. The restriction follows the card name recognized by the game’s rules, not the artwork or set in which you bought it.
- Record the category. Mark each card as Forbidden, Limited, Semi-Limited, or unrestricted, and write down the displayed date. Keeping the date prevents confusion when a later update changes the result.
- Count all zones together. Add the copies in the Main, Extra, and Side Deck for each card name. Apply zero for Forbidden, one for Limited, and two for Semi-Limited.
- Correct violations. Remove every Forbidden copy. For a Limited card, keep at most one total. For a Semi-Limited card, keep at most two total. Recheck the count after moving cards between the Main and Side Deck.
- Check the event deadline. Compare your list’s date with the tournament’s deck-list submission time. A deck legal when you first built it can become illegal before registration.
- Save the audit. Keep the deck export, the format and region, the list’s displayed date, and any event rulebook in one note or file. Another player or a judge can then reproduce your check.
How to count copies across Main, Extra, and Side Deck
The most common mistake is treating the Side Deck as a separate allowance. It is not. The limit applies to the combined number of cards with the same name in all three deck areas.
| Status | Maximum combined copies | Legal example | Illegal example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forbidden | 0 | No copies in Main, Extra, or Side | One copy anywhere |
| Limited | 1 | One in Main and none elsewhere | Two in Main, or one in Main plus one in Side |
| Semi-Limited | 2 | Two in Main, or one in Main plus one in Side | Three split across any deck areas |
| Unrestricted | No list-based cap | Any quantity otherwise allowed by deck-size and event rules | Exceeding another rule, such as the deck-size requirement |
Example: a Limited card in the Side Deck
Suppose your Main Deck contains one copy of a Limited card because it is part of your primary strategy. You may not add a second copy to the Side Deck for games two and three. Before the match, you can exchange that single copy with another card, but the combined registered list must still contain only one copy.
Example: a Semi-Limited card moved for sideboarding
Two copies of a Semi-Limited card may be registered as two in the Main Deck, or one in the Main and one in the Side. You cannot register two in the Main and two more in the Side, even if only two will be used in any one game.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Example: Extra Deck cards
An Extra Deck copy consumes the same allowance as a Main or Side Deck copy. If a card is Limited and you place one copy in the Extra Deck, no copy of that card may appear in either of the other decks.
How to handle a banlist announcement in progress
A revealed list is not necessarily a complete list. During a staged announcement, early articles and social posts can describe only the cards revealed so far. Wait for the final official update or search the live database after publication.
Konami’s October 2026 YCS Houston announcement said that 34 cards would be added to the Forbidden List and eight cards to the Limited List, with the reveals split across weekend livestream segments. Part 2 added seven named Forbidden cards and placed Branded Opening on the Limited List. Part 3 added seven Forbidden cards and two Toon cards to the Limited List. Part 4 added seven Forbidden cards and two additional Limited cards. Those segments did not by themselves constitute a reason to stop checking the official database: the complete change set and effective details belong to the final Konami publication.

What the dated 2026 information tells you
At crawl time, the official Neuron page displayed a status update dated 21 September 2026 with 122 Forbidden cards, 95 Limited cards, and eight Semi-Limited cards. Treat those numbers as a dated snapshot, not as permanent totals. The October 2026 update was changing statuses, so a count copied from that September display can be wrong for a later event.
The effective date is more useful than a search-engine result date. A page may remain visible after a newer announcement, and a cached article may describe a list that is no longer active. When the two disagree, use the live official page that identifies the applicable format and date, then confirm with the event organizer.
Pre-submission checklist
- The deck is labeled with the correct TCG format, region, and event.
- You opened a current Konami regional list or Yu-Gi-Oh! Neuron, rather than relying on a deck-site badge.
- You recorded the source’s displayed status or effective date.
- Every card name in the Main, Extra, and Side Deck was checked.
- Forbidden cards total zero copies.
- Limited cards total no more than one copy across all three deck areas.
- Semi-Limited cards total no more than two copies across all three deck areas.
- The event’s player guide does not impose a different list or deadline.
- You rechecked after any new announcement, livestream reveal, or database update.
- You saved the dated deck list so a judge or teammate can reproduce the result.

Symptom: A guide has a familiar list but no status date, or its totals differ from the official database.
Fix: Treat the article as a lead only. Open the current Konami or Neuron entry and record the date shown there.
Mixing TCG and another ruleset
Symptom: A card is reported as legal by a player using a different region or game mode.
Fix: Identify the event’s format and geography first, then use the corresponding official list. Ask the organizer or head judge if the wording is unclear.
Assuming a reveal is the final list
Symptom: A livestream segment or social post names some changes, but the database still shows the previous status.

Fix: Wait for the final official update or the live database entry with an effective date. Recheck the entire deck rather than only the cards named in the segment.
Counting replacement cards instead of registered cards
Symptom: You believe a Limited card is legal because only one copy will be used in each game.
Fix: Count the full registered Main, Extra, and Side Deck. The limit applies before sideboarding and remains in force after cards are exchanged.
Buying products and building from sealed cards
A Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Structure Deck can be a practical physical starting point, but the cards supplied in a product do not bypass the Forbidden & Limited List. When an official sealed-play event tells players to build from the supplied product, use only the cards obtained under that event’s instructions and follow its deck-construction rules. Confirm the current product, region, seller, and event policy before purchasing; availability and product details can differ by location and release date.
After opening a product, run the same audit on the deck you intend to register. A reprinted card is still subject to the current status for its card name, and a card that was legal when a product was released may later become Limited or Forbidden.
Keep a dated legality record
For recurring testing or a team event, save a small audit record with four items: the exact deck export, the format and region, the official list’s displayed date, and the date you performed the check. Add the event’s submission deadline and a link or page title only when the organizer supplied it. When the list changes, make a new record rather than overwriting the old one. This makes it clear which version was checked and lets a teammate or judge find the same evidence.
The reliable habit is simple: identify the format, read the date on the official Konami source, count every copy across all three deck areas, and repeat the check immediately before an event or significant purchase.
