How to Check the Current Market Value of a Warhammer 40,000 Commander Deck

On the 2026-10-20 snapshot, regular-edition market references ranged from $238.26 for The Ruinous Powers to $360.60 for Necron Dynasties on TCGplayer. Those figures are marketplace indicators, not guaranteed sale proceeds. To price your own deck accurately, match its exact deck name, edition, condition, marketplace and geography, then subtract selling costs from the gross reference.

What you are actually valuing

The Warhammer 40,000 Commander product has four named decks: Tyranid Swarm, Necron Dynasties, Forces of the Imperium and The Ruinous Powers. Each exists in a regular edition and a Collector’s Edition. Wizards of the Coast describes the Collector’s Edition as English-only, with surge-foil versions of cards and tokens. That treatment creates a separate market, so a foil Collector’s Edition should never be averaged with a regular deck.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

A useful valuation is therefore not a single search for “Warhammer 40K deck.” It is a match across five fields:

  • Exact deck name.
  • Regular or Collector’s Edition.
  • Factory sealed, opened and complete, or incomplete condition.
  • Marketplace and buyer geography.
  • Date and currency of the observation.

Leave any of those fields vague and you can compare unlike products, especially a sealed Collector’s Edition with an opened regular deck.

Current regular-edition benchmarks

The following TCGplayer figures are the practical starting point for regular decks in the 2026-10-20 snapshot. They are gross marketplace references in U.S. dollars; the snapshot does not establish a single condition category or a guaranteed transaction price.

Deck Edition Condition basis Marketplace and currency Gross market reference
The Ruinous Powers Regular Condition not stated in the TCGplayer snapshot TCGplayer, USD $238.26
Forces of the Imperium Regular Condition not stated in the TCGplayer snapshot TCGplayer, USD $297.93
Tyranid Swarm Regular Condition not stated in the TCGplayer snapshot TCGplayer, USD $312.65
Necron Dynasties Regular Condition not stated in the TCGplayer snapshot TCGplayer, USD $360.60

Use these numbers as an anchor for a search, not as an appraisal of every copy. A complete opened deck may sell below a sealed copy, while an incomplete deck can be worth materially less. Listing prices, market-price calculations and the amount a seller finally receives are different things.

Collector’s Edition is a different comparison

Collector’s Edition decks contain surge-foil cards and tokens and are English-only. Because the foil treatment changes the contents, combine only Collector’s Edition listings with other Collector’s Edition listings.

Version Observed listing level Observed market price Marketplace and currency
Necron Dynasties Collector’s Edition About $599.99 $671.17 TCGplayer, USD
Necron Dynasties regular About $278.99 $278.26 TCGplayer, USD

The listing level is what sellers were asking around the time of the snapshot; the market-price field is a separate marketplace reference. Neither figure promises that your copy will sell at that amount, and neither should be transferred to another deck without checking that deck’s own listings.

How condition changes the comparison

Factory sealed

“Sealed” should mean the original product packaging is intact. Cardmarket’s sealed category requires original packaging, so a deck that has merely never been played but has had its packaging opened does not belong in the same sealed comparison. Photograph the factory seal and all sides of the box when you list it.

Opened but complete

An opened deck can still be valuable when every card, token, deck box and included packaging is present and in good condition. State that it has been opened, verify the contents against the official decklist, and show clear photos of the cards and accessories. Do not describe it as sealed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Incomplete or damaged

Missing cards, tokens, the deck box or packaging reduce the value because a buyer must replace or accept the missing components. List each absent item rather than using “complete” as a general description. Bent cards, water damage, writing, creases and heavy box wear also need to be disclosed; buyers use those details to decide whether your copy is comparable to a complete deck.

Eight-step method for pricing your deck

  1. Identify the exact deck. Choose one of the four names: Tyranid Swarm, Necron Dynasties, Forces of the Imperium or The Ruinous Powers. Check the printed product name rather than relying on a memory of the faction.
  2. Confirm the edition. Separate regular from Collector’s Edition. Look for the Collector’s Edition packaging and surge-foil contents; do not average the two editions.
  3. Grade the physical state. Put the copy in one of three working groups: factory sealed, opened but complete, or incomplete. Record missing cards, tokens, deck box and packaging separately.
  4. Choose the buyer geography. Search a marketplace used by buyers in the country where you will ship. Record the currency. TCGplayer observations are in U.S. dollars, while Cardmarket reports euros; those are not interchangeable without a current exchange-rate conversion.
  5. Collect at least two marketplace checks. For each check, save the date, currency, asking range or lowest available listing, market or price-trend figure, and number of available listings. A single unusually high or low listing is weak evidence.
  6. Compare like with like. A sealed regular deck belongs beside sealed regular copies, an opened complete deck beside opened complete copies, and a Collector’s Edition beside Collector’s Edition copies. Exclude listings with missing components when judging a complete copy.
  7. Estimate your net proceeds. Start with the gross reference, then subtract the selling-platform fee, shipping you pay, taxes collected from your proceeds and payment-processing costs. The amount left is the figure relevant to your decision to sell.
  8. Publish a dated range. Prices respond to supply, reprints and local demand. Report a low-to-high range, the marketplace, currency and date checked instead of presenting one number as permanent.

Using Cardmarket as a second check

Cardmarket provides a useful European comparison for Forces of the Imperium. In the 2026 snapshot, its page showed 30 available items, a €200.00 starting price and a €210.59 price trend. Rolling averages were €211.87 for 30 days, €216.87 for seven days and €219.00 for one day.

Cardmarket measure for Forces of the Imperium Value
Available items 30
Starting price €200.00
Price trend €210.59
30-day average €211.87
7-day average €216.87
1-day average €219.00

These measures answer different questions. The starting price shows the cheapest visible offer at that moment. A price trend and rolling averages summarize recent marketplace behavior. When you compare them with a U.S.-dollar reference, keep the currency and buyer geography visible rather than treating the euro and dollar figures as direct equivalents.

Checking a four-deck Collector’s Edition case

If you own a factory case containing all four Collector’s Edition decks, value the case both as a sealed unit and as four possible individual sales. TCGplayer’s Collector’s Edition case page displayed a $1,767.03 market price in the 2026 snapshot.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TCG Strat reported a $1,814.91 market price and a $1,721.54 median contents value for the case on 2026-09-10. It defined EV as a probability-weighted average of current singles prices and reported an EV ratio of 0.95x. The contents estimate is not the same as a guaranteed result from opening the case: it reflects the modeled value of the cards at that time, while an opened seller still faces listing, shipping and payment costs.

To decide whether to keep a case sealed, compare the current sealed-case reference with the current sum of four comparable individual Collector’s Edition decks. Use the same currency, condition and date for both sides. A contents estimate can help explain the market, but it does not remove the labor and fees involved in breaking up a sealed case.

What a set-wide card-price statistic can and cannot tell you

Hoard recorded a $2.21 median card price for the set on 2026-10-19, using references from TCGplayer. That statistic describes the median price of individual cards across the set; it is not a direct valuation for any complete Commander deck. Do not multiply the median by the number of cards in a deck: card prices are uneven, duplicates may exist, and the median says nothing about sealed packaging, tokens or accessories.

Gross price versus money in your pocket

Marketplace references are gross figures. Your net proceeds can be represented as:

Use the actual fee schedule for the marketplace and seller account you will use. Because the available benchmarks do not establish one universal fee rate, do not apply an invented percentage to the figures above. If you offer free shipping, include the postage and packing materials you pay. If the buyer pays shipping separately, record that separately from the deck’s sale price so your comparison remains consistent.

A practical worksheet has one row per comparable listing and these fields: deck, edition, condition, marketplace, country or region, currency, listing price, market or trend figure, listing date, number of available copies, shipping charged to the buyer, and your estimated net. The final row should show your suggested list range and the date you will recheck it.

Worked decisions for common owner questions

“How much is my regular Necron Dynasties deck worth?”

First decide whether it is sealed, opened complete or incomplete. Then use the regular Necron reference in the benchmark table as your initial anchor, and compare current listings for the same condition in your buyer’s geography. A sealed copy should not be priced from opened-complete listings; a missing-token copy should not be priced from complete listings. Quote the resulting range with the date and currency.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Are the Collector’s Edition decks worth more?”

They can command a separate premium because of surge-foil cards and tokens, but the size of that premium depends on deck, condition, supply and marketplace. The Necron snapshot demonstrates that Collector’s Edition and regular listings occupied distinctly different price levels. Check the exact edition rather than applying that spread automatically to all four decks.

“How do I price an opened complete deck?”

Inventory every card and token, verify the deck box and packaging, and photograph the complete set. Search for opened-complete comparables, not sealed products. Set a gross asking range, calculate your expected net after the platform’s current charges, and disclose that the deck was opened even if it was never played.

“Should I sell a four-deck Collector’s Edition case intact?”

Compare one sealed-case reference with the sum of four individual Collector’s Edition references after allowing for four separate transactions and their costs. The TCGplayer and TCG Strat case figures provide two dated anchors, while the TCG Strat contents estimate helps you understand the modeled singles value. Keep the case intact if the convenience, packaging and buyer demand justify the difference between those alternatives.

Common pricing mistakes

  • Mixing editions: Regular and Collector’s Edition products have different contents and buyer expectations.
  • Calling an opened box sealed: Original packaging is part of the sealed definition used by Cardmarket.
  • Using the highest visible listing: An asking price is not proof of a completed sale or your net proceeds.
  • Ignoring geography: A U.S.-dollar marketplace reference and a euro price trend describe different buyer pools.
  • Omitting missing components: Cards, tokens, deck box and packaging affect comparability.
  • Quoting an undated number: Supply, reprints and local demand can move the market.
  • Treating a singles estimate as a sealed value: EV and median card prices model contents, not the convenience or costs of selling a sealed product.
  • Forgetting transaction costs: Fees and shipping reduce what you actually receive.

A listing checklist before you publish

  • Use the exact deck name in the title.
  • State “regular” or “Collector’s Edition.”
  • State “factory sealed,” “opened complete” or “incomplete.”
  • List missing cards, tokens, deck box or packaging.
  • Describe visible damage and include photographs.
  • Show the asking price, shipping treatment and currency.
  • Save the date and marketplace used for your benchmark.
  • Recheck comparable listings immediately before accepting an offer.

A defensible valuation is a dated range tied to a specific product state. The benchmark tables give you starting points, but matching edition and condition, checking more than one marketplace and calculating net proceeds are what turn a search result into a realistic selling price.
