On most Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, open Settings > About phone (or About tablet) > Software information. There you can check the separate Android version, One UI version and Build number fields. Menu names and layouts can vary by model, carrier, region and software version.
Check your Samsung Galaxy software version

Tap About phone. On a Galaxy tablet, tap About tablet.

Samsung says this screen includes the One UI version, Android version, build number and other software details. See Samsung Canada’s software-update guidance and its One UI information page. The steps apply to most Galaxy devices, not necessarily every model or software build.

What the version fields mean

Android version: The version of Android installed on the device.

One UI version: Samsung’s interface software version. It is a separate value from the Android version, so give both field names when reporting your software details.

Build number: A specific software-build identifier. It may be requested when diagnosing a problem.

If support asks for the firmware version, Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance points to the Baseband version field in Software information. Follow the exact field requested rather than substituting one version label for another: Samsung’s software-update troubleshooting guidance.

Find the Samsung device model instead
The hardware model is not the Android or One UI version. To identify the phone or tablet, open Settings > About phone or About tablet, then look for the device or model name. Samsung also describes finding model and device identifiers on that screen in its phone and tablet identifier guide. Available details and labels can differ by provider, software version and model.
Check for an update separately
Looking at Software information only tells you what is installed; it does not install an update. To check for one, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. On some devices or carrier builds, the menu may instead be called System updates, or the next check step may differ. Samsung’s Galaxy software-update instructions provide its general update route.

If the menu labels do not match
Samsung’s instructions cover most Galaxy phones and tablets, including S, Z Fold and A series, but do not establish an identical path for every legacy model, region or carrier build. Samsung notes that screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version. If you cannot find Software information, use Settings search for “Software information” or “About phone,” or consult support for your specific model. Samsung Gulf’s Android-version instructions also describe the usual route.
