To check a nearby store, select that store in the Target app or on Target.com, then review the item’s availability and fulfillment options. Treat the result as a snapshot, not a guarantee: Target says online availability can be incomplete, inaccurate, or delayed.
How to check whether a Target store has an item
- Select the store you want to check. In the Target app, open the Account/Name tab, tap Change beside the selected store, search by city, state, or ZIP code, choose the location, and save it. On Target.com, use Find stores and search by ZIP code or city and state. See Target Help’s store-finder instructions.
- Search for the item with that store selected. Check the product page for its availability and the fulfillment choices offered for that particular item and location.
- Use an available fulfillment option if it suits you. Eligible items may offer Order Pickup or, in the app at participating stores, Drive Up. The options depend on the item and store; Target explains them in its Drive Up and Order Pickup help.
Can Target send a back-in-stock alert?
No. Target Help’s Price Match Guarantee page says Target “can’t guarantee product availability or hold merchandise and does not provide notifications when the product is available.” That is the published position stated on the page; policy and interface wording can change.

Target does describe notifications for an order you have already placed: it says it will email you when an eligible pickup order is ready, and you can enable optional device push notifications for order status. Those messages are not alerts for an unpurchased item coming back in stock.
Why an availability status may not match the shelf
Target warns that online availability information may not be complete or accurate, and updates can lag. A product shown as available may be gone by the time you get to the store or place an order. Target also explains that a Drive Up or Order Pickup item can be canceled; see its help page about canceled pickup items.

If the item is important, check the selected store again shortly before acting. For an eligible pickup or Drive Up order, placing the order is a practical way to request the item, but it does not turn the online stock display into a guarantee.
