Can IRL Pro Keep YouTube Live While Your PC Is Off?

IRL Pro is the phone-side source; the final YouTube encoder must stay online. See when hosted Cloud OBS lets you turn off your PC and how to check the setup.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes—but only if the part that publishes the broadcast to YouTube keeps running somewhere else. IRL Pro can send video from your phone to a hosted Cloud OBS service, which then sends it to YouTube. In that setup, your home PC can be off. If your phone’s feed goes to a relay and your PC’s OBS sends the final stream to YouTube, the PC must stay on.

Which part has to stay online?

IRL Pro is the phone-side sender. The encoder that makes the final connection to YouTube is the publisher. For an uninterrupted live stream, that publisher—and the phone feed supplying it—must remain online. A cloud encoder can take the publisher role normally handled by OBS on a home computer. Enhanced IRL’s streaming guide distinguishes a home-OBS setup from Cloud OBS.

Setup What sends the final stream to YouTube? Can the home PC be off?
IRL Pro sends directly to YouTube IRL Pro on the phone Potentially. This is a direct-phone setup, not the hosted Cloud OBS route; confirm that the app and platform support the configuration and production features you need.
IRL Pro → relay → OBS at home → YouTube OBS on the home PC No. The PC remains part of the publishing chain.
IRL Pro → hosted Cloud OBS → YouTube The hosted Cloud OBS encoder Yes, while the hosted encoder and phone feed remain active.

A relay alone is not necessarily a replacement for OBS. It may only receive or forward the phone feed; check that the service can also encode and publish an output to YouTube. The example in IRL Streaming’s server guide describes a relay feed being pulled into OBS on a PC.

How to send IRL Pro through hosted Cloud OBS

  1. Check the hosted service’s role. Confirm it offers an always-on Cloud OBS or equivalent encoder that publishes to YouTube, not just an ingest relay. Verify that its input accepts the protocol you intend to use and that YouTube is an available output. Enhanced IRL’s Cloud OBS output instructions describe configuring a YouTube destination.
  2. Configure IRL Pro on Android. Enter the hosted service’s input or publish URL and any required input credentials. Choose a protocol supported by both ends. Enhanced IRL’s IRL Pro documentation lists RTMP and SRT support and says the app broadcasts over a single connection rather than bonding connections.
  3. Set YouTube as the cloud encoder’s output. In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the platform stream URL and broadcast key, then enter them in the hosted service’s output settings. Keep this YouTube output key separate from any optional input key the service uses to secure the phone’s feed; they serve different connections.
  4. Start the cloud output and verify it. Start the Cloud OBS stream from the service dashboard, then check the preview and live state in YouTube Live Control Room. The exact start sequence can depend on YouTube’s encoder stream configuration, so follow the service’s output instructions as well as the YouTube workflow.
  5. Test before turning off the PC. Confirm that the phone reaches the cloud encoder and that the cloud encoder reaches YouTube. Once that works, turn off the home PC only if it is not still receiving, encoding, or publishing any part of the stream. The phone and hosted encoder still need connectivity.

Check YouTube eligibility and connection quality

YouTube requires a channel to be verified and to have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements before setting up. For an encoder workflow, YouTube uses a stream URL and key; its encoder setup guide explains the platform-side steps.

ZowieBox, 4K HDMI NDI Video Encoder/Decoder, HDMI NDI
  • Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
  • Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
  • NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
  • UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
  • All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.

Both network legs matter: the phone must reliably reach the hosted service, and the hosted encoder must reliably reach YouTube. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate and warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. See its streaming tips. A cloud encoder removes dependence on the home PC and home internet connection; it does not remove the need for a working phone uplink or a stable cloud-to-YouTube connection.

How to choose between direct streaming, a relay, and Cloud OBS

Before relying on a setup, identify what runs the final YouTube output. Then check whether the service is a full encoder/output platform or only a relay, whether its ingest supports your chosen IRL Pro protocol, and whether it supports YouTube output. Check the provider’s current limits and price directly; these vary and are not established here. A direct phone-to-YouTube setup may avoid both a home PC and a hosted encoder, but it is distinct from Cloud OBS and should be confirmed against the app’s current support and the features you need.

Troubleshooting

  • YouTube does not go live when IRL Pro connects: The phone connection may reach the service without starting its YouTube output. Check the Cloud OBS dashboard’s output state and follow the service’s start procedure; verify the YouTube preview and live state in Live Control Room.
  • The hosted service reports no incoming video: Check the input URL or credentials and confirm that the protocol selected in IRL Pro is supported by the hosted endpoint. IRL Pro’s documented RTMP and SRT support does not mean every service accepts both.
  • The phone feed works, but YouTube rejects or receives no output: Recheck the YouTube stream URL and broadcast key in the hosted output settings. Do not substitute an optional phone-ingest key for YouTube’s broadcast key.
  • The stream stops or becomes unstable: Check the phone’s connection and the hosted encoder’s connection to YouTube. Review available upload capacity against the stream bitrate, keeping YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
  • The stream ends when the PC is shut down: The PC is still doing work in the publishing chain—commonly running OBS that pulls from a relay and sends to YouTube. Move the final encoder/output to a hosted Cloud OBS service, or use a confirmed direct-phone configuration, before powering off the PC.
