To check whether a Steam bundle includes games already in your account, open its store page while signed in to the account that will receive it. Then confirm whether the offer is a Complete The Set or Must Purchase Together bundle and review the checkout total. A duplicate-key error is different: it means a particular activation code has already been tied to a Steam account.
First, identify what kind of offer you are buying
A Steam store bundle and a third-party sale of game keys are not the same product mechanism. Valve describes Steam store bundles as discounted collections of packages. The ownership rules below apply to those Steam store bundles; they do not establish what a separate seller will deliver.

These rules are documented by Valve in Steamworks’ bundle documentation. Do not assume every offer described as a bundle reduces its price for games you own: the behavior depends on the bundle type.

How to check a Steam store bundle against your account
- Sign in to the receiving account. Check the Steam account that will get the purchase, not another account you use.
- Open the bundle’s Steam store page. Review the included products and look for whether the offer is labeled Complete The Set or Must Purchase Together.
- For Complete The Set, review the adjusted checkout total. Steam’s documented rule is that the purchase covers only included items not already in your library. Confirm the total shown before placing the order.
- For Must Purchase Together, check every included product. The bundle is purchasable only when none of its products are already owned. Do not expect the Complete The Set price adjustment.
- If a game seems missing, check the account and Library filters. Make sure the client is signed in to the right account and that filters are not hiding the game. Steam Support lists both as checks for missing Library games: Games Are Missing from my Library.
The ownership rule here concerns products in the purchasing Steam account. These sources do not establish that owning a game on another platform counts as Steam ownership.
Why a Steam bundle is not a bundle of keys
Steamworks says Steam store bundles cannot have keys associated with them. For developers who need keys that grant multiple products, Valve directs them to use a key-only package instead. So if a seller outside Steam is advertising several game keys together, do not assume it uses Steam’s Complete The Set pricing or ownership rules. Check the seller’s stated contents and key format.

What a duplicate-key error means
When you enter a retail product code to register a game on Steam, a duplicate product code error means that the code has already been tied to a Steam account and cannot be registered again. It is not the same as finding a game you own in a bundle: the bundle question is about account ownership, while the error concerns a specific code. Steam explains this in its Retail CD Keys guidance.

If you believe you have not successfully registered the retail key, contact the retailer. Steam’s duplicate-key help says Steam Support cannot issue a replacement CD key for a retail duplicate. Removing a game from your Library does not make a previously redeemed code registrable again.

Check which kind of activation key you have
Not every key associated with Steam registers a game on Steam. Steam distinguishes retail or digital keys used to add products to a Steam account from Steam-issued activation keys that can appear in the Library under Manage → CD keys. Those Steam-issued keys are used to register a product with a third-party client or service. For an invalid or duplicate Steam-issued key, Steam Support directs you to the game’s third-party developer or publisher support team. See Steam-Issued Activation Keys.
