Check Florida’s official FL511 traffic map before you leave and again shortly before traveling. Search for Miami-Dade or your route, then review traffic speeds, incidents, closures, detours, construction, and available cameras. For a reported-crash cross-check, use the Florida Highway Patrol’s county-filterable Live Traffic Crash and Road Condition Report.
Use the FL511 map to check Miami traffic and closures
FL511 is the Florida Department of Transportation’s statewide traveler-information service for traffic conditions, roadway incidents, construction, travel times, and severe-weather alerts. Its Traffic Engineering and Operations Office describes it as Florida’s official advanced traveler information system.

- Open the FL511 map.
- Search for Miami-Dade or locate the part of the county you need to travel through.
- Use the map layers and legend to show the information relevant to your trip: traffic speeds, closures, detours, incidents, road conditions, congestion, construction zones, traffic cameras, message signs, or weather.
- Select a camera or map item when available to inspect its details. Camera snapshots can help you assess conditions at a particular location, but they do not replace checking the rest of your route.
Map information can change as incidents and road conditions develop. Refresh the map close to departure rather than relying on a view you checked much earlier.

Compare route times and alternate routes
If you have a specific origin and destination, use FL511’s route information to compare travel times and available route choices. The route view helps you compare options; the map layers add context such as nearby closures, incidents, detours, and cameras. Check both before choosing an alternate route, since a route that avoids one reported problem may encounter another farther along.

Check traffic from your phone
The official FL511 mobile app provides mobile access to traffic and incident information, closure and detour displays, and camera snapshots where available. Its Drive Mode supports destination-based route and travel-time choices. Review the route before driving; do not handle a phone while the vehicle is in motion.
Set alerts for saved routes
FL511 offers My Florida 511 text or email notifications for saved routes and selected events, including crashes, construction, congestion, closures, travel-time increases, and traffic-speed changes. Options and setup can change, so check the current signup and notification choices on FDOT’s FL511 service page or Florida 511 itself. Alerts are a supplement to checking conditions, not a guarantee that every change will reach you immediately.

- Get more situational awareness with alerts for school zones, speed changes, sharp curves and more
- View food, fuel and rest areas along your active route, and see upcoming cities and milestones

Cross-check reported crashes with FHP
Use the FHP Live Traffic Crash and Road Condition Report as a secondary check for reported incidents. Filter the report for Miami-Dade; entries can include incident type, received time, county, location, remarks, and coordinates. It is an incident listing, not a route-planning view, so use FL511 to assess conditions along the whole journey.
Recheck during severe weather
In severe weather, review FL511’s weather and emergency information along with closures and detours, and check again near travel time. Florida 511’s newsroom notices updated October 1, 2026 advised travelers to use the service to track closures, detours, weather alerts, and changing travel conditions before and after storms. Do not assume a road remains open based on an earlier check.
